Alrighty lads New member here

Just want to know what's the script with us getting a new ck there's still rumours flouting about oser?! I recon John can definitely be our number one but I thought get a new one in so they can do what John did last year under McGregor
Any thoughts?

Tbh mclaughlan was at fault in incident Sands was almost sent off and looked suspect a few times so a keeper should be a priority imo.

I don't think we will buy or need a new keeper this season especially after giving Greegs an extra year but who knows.

Firstly welcome to the site Louiii ? Only my opinion mate but i think greegs should have started the season as our no.1 in front of jon mclaughlin because he's a better goalie than him for me, plain and simple! I honestly hand on heart think jon mclaughlin is a rangers no.2 and not a rangers no.1 goalkeeper ?.

mclaughlin scares me, some say great with ball at feet, i dont, i can't get bombscare of old firm game out of my mind when he ran the ball out of play, a nervous kitten came to mind, i definetly don't think he's a rangers no1, but some do.

I’m actually worried about mcglaughlan being no 1 long term. I’ve heard he’s better a distribution but I haven’t seen any evidence of this. He does appear more keen on coming for a cross ball but struggled with one in the Sunderland debacle. McGregor in obvious decline last 2 years but I think he’s a better shot stopper and communicator still. I think we were using budget for other priorities but a new number 1 we might need to wait a year.

Tom I totally agree I for one don't know who came up with this better with ball at feet nonsense McGregor deals with it if tricky mclaughlin dithers and often makes wrong call nearly lost us it in both legs dodgy for first goal and nearly ended up getting sands sent off with stupid pass when he should have turned with ball and played it out to the right instead he doubled back to sands with two players already closing him down before he passed it to McLaughlin.

I don't know about McGregor decline was still voted one of best keepers in Europe last year made some saves that you thought he had no right to make everyone is judgement is slightly bias because his error big part of costing league but nobody asking the right question of why defense allowed it to get that far and why we continue to loose sloppy lazy goals. Think our backline vastly over rated defensively goldson sands helander souttar. I'd honestly take balogun back in a second over helander and sands. I get sands is still young but even king for me looks a better option than him at 4.7 million ?.

i think it’s that allan can’t kick the ball at full whack, arthritis is a killer for a sportsman, but i cannot believe i’m is a better bet.

McGregor not fit enough to meet demands of being number 1. McLaughlin is now number 1 and shirt is his to lose. I say that as a big fan of McGregor.

For this year I think we're set with McLaughlin and I hope the whole back line settles once Davies and Souttar are fit to start.

Longer term I think we need to make a decision, is it going to be McCrorie? If not we need to get someone in early to give them time to settle.

I believe we need a new goalkeeper immediately with berke ozer and sondre Rossbach 2 affordable options.

As others will tell you, I don't rate McLaughlin, I don't believe he has the experience that some say he has. You don't gain that spending most games since coming to Rangers sitting in the dug out and all of the games where he has deputised for McGregor have been against poor opposition, (and I include the European games this season) . Young McCrorie had a tougher game when he deputised against Celtic, he played well and looked like one for the future.
If McLaughlin was ambitious then I would argue that like Fotheringham, he wouldn't have been willing to be No. 2, I don't believe he comes close to McGregor as a shot stopper, I don't accept that he is better with the ball at his feet. On the contrary that for me is an area where he is a liability. That only leaves being better taking crosses, which he is; but then he has a defence that should be clearing these balls.
I believe that we should have brought in a top quality replacement for McGregor, I believe that McCrorie should be the backup keeper and I don't believe that McLaughlin's contract should have been renewed. We will be in a worse position next summer if we don't bring in a quality new keeper since we will be looking to replace two keepers!

Agree Asathor, we've had the best goalkeepers in Scotland over the years, Klos, Mcgregor, Woods, big andy Mclaughlin is nowhere near the quality of those keepers, ozer would be a great signing this window.

The same people who point out every error that JM makes (eg poor pass to Sands) choose to ignore every mistake that AM made.

Why the need to put AM on an untouchable pedestal?

No one has suggested that he was not a great keeper or still has ability but it was a C.V. last season that age has slowed him down.

I agree with Asathor. We need an out and out No 1. JM is a very reliable back up keeper but is not cut out for top level euro games. always, feel he hasn't the presence or influence on the defence to have full trust in bailing them out.

McLaughlin is being asked to play that way so there is some risk although he needs to sharpen up . If we need a new goalie because his bad ball to Sands nearly cost us we also need two new centre halfs and a new central midfielder because Sands twice, Goldson and Lundstram all played bad passes that put us under pressure. McLaughlin is better with the ball at his feet and is better at cross balls but Greegs is probably a better shot stopper so you choose which is more important . As for Ozer, some want him as No 1 but nobody has seen him play and I read that he is shaky on crosses, a real problem in Scotland. We need to face reality we won`t get a keeper as good as Greegs was, we can`t afford them.

WSL, we might not get a keeper as good as Greens was at his prime however I believe that we can certainly get better than McLaughlin! Celtic didn't exactly pay a fortune for Hart and Hearts currently have the best keeper in Scotland in my opinion and he certainly didn't cost them. There are goalkeepers out there that are better than McLaughlin although it might be that we are hoping to pick one up on a Bosman for next season.
So far we haven't really come up against a top quality team so it will be interesting to see how McLaughlin does when we come up against PSV or Celtic!, (assuming of course that he plays in those games) .

Evening Bears hope you are enjoying the heat. For what it's worth I think Jon McLaughlin deserves his chance like Sands they gave me a scare against USG but we need a bit of loyalty too. We support a team not just the goalscorers. JM has done little wrong, Sands might come good, let's support the full team. I thought the season was touch and go when I watched the Livingston game. But Tuesday night lifted a lot of doubts. ❤️??.

I’m bored of the whole Mcgregor Mcglaughlin debate. It’s everyday just about. Mcgregor shouldn’t have got a new contract and a number 1 should have been signed however that wasn’t the case and Mcglaughlin is now number 1. Back the guy. In my eyes it won’t be helping him knowing mcgregor is sitting on the bench and every mistake he makes will be scrutinised. I believe the whole keeper situation was based around the fact Mcglaughlin was giving a new contract and they didn’t want to lose mcgregor due to him being homegrown and helping meet euro squad rules. We have 4 keepers if you include wright, highly doubt we will sign another at this stage. Reviewed again in January possibly.

Monty it won't matter what we say on mclaughling it's what gio says and does and so far he has backed him it's up to him to hold jersey I prefer McGregor but . claughlin not done much wrong and I expected 1 or two wobbles when first took over until he's assured in his mind that he's the gaffers no1.

John26, I'm sure I could find someone to drop if we signed the right quality of keeper?

In all honesty, I really hope that McLaughlin goes on to prove me wrong and eclipses McGregor in terms of clean sheets however I do believe that we will need to bring in a new keeper, probably in January for the new season. That said, I know there are a few top ranked keepers that will be Bosmans next summer so ideally we will secure one of them come January 2023.
