I'm hearing serious rumours that Munich will activate their buy back clause when we trigger our option for Tillman. We're set to net £4.5 million. We approached to make the deal early at some point last week but were advised by Munich that they are very likely to buy back. It's unclear if it's to play for Munich or if they've had a higher offer from another club which nets them greater profit than our straight transfer if they buy back.

Not sure that's how that works, as far as I'm aware the buy back clause is only applicable if we had made a permanent transfer for Tillman. Can't see why Munich would have to pay us to get their own player back from a loan. Perhaps the Ed can clear it up.

{Ed002's Note - I answered this the other day.}

Jfm I believe we would first be activating our buy option, so we would sign him, and then Bayern would immediately activate their own buy-back option at circa £4.5mill more than what we pay (if figures above are correct)

jfm, he means when rangers pay the agreed fee for tillman then bayern immediately buy him back for themselves to either keep or sell on at a profit, i think, cloak and dagger stuff may have bayern already with a buyer offering bigger money than rangers pay to sell him back

i think.

Sorry Ed didn't see it.

{Ed002's Note - You should be able to find it on the Transfers Rumours page.}

Don't worry about it Ed, I don't manage to catch every conversation thread due to work but I'm not sure I can be bothered searching for something when I don't know when it was posted. Cheers anyway.

{Ed002's Note - Malik Tillman (AM) Rangers have the option to buy the player at the end of his loan with Bayern Munich able to exercise a future option to buy the player back. The player will want to know what his future holds and knows that unless Jamal Musiala leaves he is unlikely to get regular game time in Munich which means, if the player opts not to make his loan permanent, another loan or a sale. Austria Vienna and St Pauli have already declared an interest.}

Ed002, has this not happened before? My memory isn't exactly the best nowadays, but I seem to remember some club selling the player only to buy him straight back after triggering the buy back. After that, they sold him straight away for more money.

{Ed002's Note - I am sure it has Ben but don't recall who.}

I don't think there is a fee agreed for the buy back clause. Just means that if rangers want to sell or there is interest then they get 1st refusal. If his value was to shoot up as hoped say for eg 15-20 we hardly going to have agreed to sell him for 10. If they think they can get more now they can just convince him not to agree terms with us them it's open season. So all down to Tillman.

Am I right in saying that although Bayern has the first option should Tilman turn it down we would be free to sell to another club?
I personally would like to see him stay for a few years to see just how good this lad could be.

I don't think that's how it would work. If they sell us the player for 'x' as agreed then there would have to be a time lapse of at least a season before Bayern would be able to buy him back. They would have first refusal of the the player.

I would be happy to have him for next season then if sold so be it if he keeps on improving he'll play in any league a far better one than ours and if he wants this am cool with that and he should be wanting that.

Yeah it happened with the lad from Celtic on loan at a Belgian team. They bought him for an agreed price and then immediately sold him to one of the bigger Belgian clubs.

it has happened more than once quite recently ed, but i also can't remember who

agreed fee paid, agreed buy back is then facilitated shortly afterwards. and player is sold again at a far higher fee to a waiting buyer.

I’m sure Real Madrid have done this with buy backs and immediate sales before.

Barcelona and Cucurella deal to Eiber.

Zikos Celtic never bought him back so it’s not the same.

Zikos celtic agreed a fee for Jack Hendry with the club we got Sakala from but that club then sold him to club brugge that is nothing like our deal with Tillman from Bayern if celtic took him back and then sold him for a bigger fee than the fee agreed but that never happened, if Rangers and Bayern have agreed a fee then if Bayern want him back they will have to pay Rangers more than the initial fee paid if they then want to sell him to another club for more money.

Point taken guys it’s not the exact same but quite similar.

In that case why would Rangers then sell to Bayern if they could go straight to those clubs and cut out the middle man and make more profit.

I would doubt a buy back figure has been agreed, rather more likely that they have first refusal at our asking price.

What about me

Exactly what I said a few weeks ago mentioned similar deals that juventus have done.
