Seeker just going back to your would you join celtic question seems I was the only one to say yes so I'll try give you some insight into my answer mate. I grew up in a house and family that were all celtic fans mum dad brother uncle aunties all crazy celtic fans but I obviously had a brain lol. So every Saturday me my brother and my dad would shake hands tell each other a hope your team gets pumped and head in the opposite directions of Glasgow meet up after football have a bit of banter. Not sure how much my dad disapproved as he never let on he was a great man. So as much as I love glasgow rangers I've never been able to understand the ugly side of it all. I sadly lost my dad and brother the last few years and maybe if that question had come up before then my answer may have been different who knows. Keep the posts coming guys the site is different class we all have or different opinions but we also have one thing In common our love of glasgow rangers watp.

Blue boy, good post you certainly do not need to justify your rationale.

Who wouldn't join if rangers didn't come knocking first especially when being a pro is your dream.

And how would you feel playing for them on the 2nd, partaking in the Huddle infront of the their support at Ibrox as their fans laugh / sing / jeer at a minutes silence for our fallen 66?

Would you run into the crowd and celebrate with the their fans while they are singing about ending us, blowing us all up, and worse?

BoyBlue don't worry mate, I played football at youth professional level around 10 years ago for the likes of Aberdeen and Dundee and despite bleeding red, white and blue, if it came down to it, I would also sign for them. Reaching top level football is so difficult and you realise that even more so when you are in the midst of it. Although the ideal situation would be signed for the Famous Glasgow Rangers, you have to put things into perspective and signing for either Glasgow club as a teen would be a massive step into the world of being a footballer. Having said that, if I was a seasoned pro and already making my way in the game, I would be inclined to seek out alternative options (probably down south), rather than sign for them. It's so easy to fall through the net as a young footballer and passing up opportunities as big as that would be a big risk.

Big Jorge, totally get that. But I’d be standing there listening to the club I support all my life
Sing
No pope of Rome
Billy boys
About Tommy Burns a great man
John Doyle and many others

Kettle pot black comes to mind.

Big jorg in that case you wouldn't play for any other side in the spfl they ALL hate us. My friend supoorted rangers all his days. Signed for celtic at 16 and moved to glasgow. Aberdeen fans absolutely hate us and last season the most staunch rangers family the fergusons has there boy playing for aberdeen to further his career.

Absolutely no need to justify yourself, thing you mentioned was family comes first, I completely agree with you. If it were in best interests of my family I would do the same. In fairness would have to be a lot of cash and with no chance of ever joining the rangers.

Was good enough for basically a team full of catholics negri amo porrini etc to listen to week in week out.

Yes John i agree it's on both sides, but as a Rangers supporter how could you build an affinity with a support that does that like on the 2nd.

You could only join them at youth level or be a failed Ger player with a chip on your shoulder like G Taylor. I see no way how you could join them as a player in your peak loving our club and signing for them and badge kissing and turning a blind eye to everything that goes on with that club, for me i could never do it.

T Burns was a good one, for every Tommy Burns theirs 100 Neil Lennons.

There’s an element in both our supports that just like to point score. If you give it out, you accept it in return. No good harkening on about their bad points, whilst remaining silent about our owns and vice versa

My house is a mixed house, by religion, politics and football, never a dull day, but you love regardless and keep it good hearted and live to fight another day.

Good enough for Kenny Dalgliesh, good enough for me. I would have joined in a heart beat. If your desire is to play at the top level then you go were the offer is. Maybe as you get older it becomes more of a challenge to cross that divide but as a kid nope.

It's not a Catholic thing either i was raised Catholic basically forced into it by family. Told everything wrong with the world is British.

There's elements on both sides, as i said personally if i would look at any other option rather than play for them, and always be downtrodden, the victim.

Told i must give up my identity to play for them that i can't sing God Save the King ( Queen ), i can't have a union jack, look at Joe Hart have you ever seen a England player sing the anthem with such pride. What would happen to him now if he got a call up?, if he was singing God save the King, waving a Union Jack, or stating he voted Conservative?
The Answer is they'd want him out the club, he'd be chased.

So play for Celtic, hide who you are because if you ever who anything they dislike you and your family are in danger like Liewell's was when they burnt his property.

Thanks for comments guys appreciate all of them.
Bigjorgethehammer I've been a season ticket holder at ibrox for 29 years and love rangers every bit as much as you but as I said in the post I don't get involved in the ugly side of it. I would never kiss a celtic badge who said I would? How could I hate celtic growing up in a house were the 2 people I look up to the most in world are my dad and brother who are celtic fans also my best mate of 35 year is a celtic fan. I'm pretty sure we all have friends or family that support them. I don't hate celtic mate I absolutely love the rivalry and history. And if you read between the lines of my post you will maybe realise why I gave the answer I did. Anyway thanks for the response all about opinions mate eh! ?.

Boy Blue, I'm not talking about hating Catholics or the Uglier side of both supports.
I'm Talking about my principals and if by signing for them I'd have to give up who iam as a person or at the very least a part of myself, if i was a Celtic Player would i be allowed Union Jack on my Social Media, would i permitted by the support to part my condolences when our Queen passed away?
If asked and i said i was a Tory and pro keeping the Union would the support accept me?

Times have changed, Rangers sign Catholics they bless themselves everytime they come on the pitch and maybe a small element of Rangers fans don't like that.

At 90 minutes at Ibrox, we sing God save the King. If you're on the Celtic bench and hear that and your lips move almost as a reflex to the tune and you word along and it's caught on TV would the Celtic support accept it?

You can be a Catholic and play for Rangers, you can't be a Proud British Unionist and wear that openly on your sleeve and play for Celtic.

Thoughts like jorg is the reason we will never get rid of sectarianism in Scotland.

Well Scotland is part of Britian and always will be Storm.

Point out any sectarian comment i made please, or any false statement for that matter.

If you had a Union Jack Tattoo on your forearm or leg would you be ordered to cover it if you played for Celtic?

Doesn't surprise me with stormtrooper, as he trawls other people's posts to take the bad out of anything he remotely doesn't agree with ?Pot calling the kettle black with you stormtrooper a helluva lot on here, but you get off lightly pal when you try to get others on here, to continually back you up ?We all have our thoughts and like us all you're not the clean tattie ?.

Coops show me anywhere I have been sectarian please my wife and step son are both Catholic and go to Celtic games I couldn’t care less what anyone is.

Jorg I can tell it’s a gift the way you come across you are a bigot. It’s really not hard to spot.

12 Jan 2023 20:12:49
Show me where i have been sectarian?

Or even 1 part of my post that is incorrect?

the entire 60k at Parkhead boo'd Rod Stewart told him he isn't welcome and never return to their games ( a life long supporter ), made threats to him and his family all because he is pro union and votes Tory.

Grear post boy blue and I 100% get where you are coming from. I also have a very "fractured" family and as such hate any kind of sectarian vile from both sides. There is absolutely no need for it. As somebody once famously said 'We are all Jock Tamson's bairns. ' Thanks for the comments guys, but you are still not changing my mind. I'm not pulling that Jersey on for all the tea in China ?.
