Any of you senior gents remember Orjan Persson, Swedish winger and played with us during a challenging period in late 60's.

Famous for his ‘banana’ kicks!

The Big Orange Person scored some magnificent goals for us. Like most wingers he could be spectacular or brutal. We got him from Dundee Utd in a deal that saw Davie Wilson going the other way. He was Scot Symon's last signing, I believe.

31 goals in 113 games for the Gers - not a bad signing at all from Dundee Utd.
He was the first foreigner I remember all us wee boys wanting to be when wee played footy in the streets. great memories of OP seeing him play after getting lifted over Ibrox turnstiles by my old man in around 1968/ 69-Dundee Utd were one of first Scottish teams to tap into the Scandinavian market so early.

Best goal perrson scored was against hearts at ibrox in the Scottish cup, a brilliant scissor kick, we drew 1-1 but lost in replay 1-0, 1968 I think.

Correct Ready - our top scorer that season was Sir Alex Ferguson with 22 goals - his goal return was good too - ~25 goals in 41 games?.

Big persson is still alive and well at 80 years old living in his native Sweden i think he played in the 1970 world cup - and what about Kai Johansson? My father raved about him.

Fortunate to see him play, coming on as a sub against Athletico Bilbao, in the Fairs Cup, March 1969.
We won 4-1 on the night to go through. Persson scored and laid on the 4th goal for Colin Stein to crash in a volley at the end. Alex Ferguson also scored that night and John Greig ballooned a penalty over the bar. Great game.
Seem to remember he played in the 1970 World Cup for Sweden ??. Great player on his game.
