A lot of pillars of society on here!
More Saints than Sinners by the sound of it as the pile on of the Union Bears to blame all Rangers fans ills gathers pace.
Let's get one thing straight.
I was all for the "friendly" in Australia.
An easy £3 million for the club as they try to maximise all commercial activities to give us the team we all think we deserve on the park.
Especially considering the paltry money available form the SPFL and SFA for being successful in Scotland.
Plenty on here weren't and so did others as the greeting gathered pace all over social media. What did the greeting achieve? Did the club listen to any concerns?
The Union Bears decided to take direct action to highlight their and thousands of other fans gripes about the "friendly" on a national level.
It wasn't as if they carried out a violent protest!
Did I agree with their actions? That's immaterial.
We now have some on here saying they should be banned?
Let he without sin cast the first stone.
These young lads pay thousands to Follow Follow their team home and away.
Which group of fans organised the 150th Anniversary celebrations in the stadium?
Which group of fans organised bucket collections to pay for the display?
Which group of fans gave up their own time to organise the display?
The club have never given them any financial support. But the club are quite happy to use their display on the official Rangers FC Twitter page. And have done so with plenty of their previous displays.
We all seen the clubs poor attempt at a flag day to celebrate 55!
Which group of fans gave a 4 figure amount to Morelos charity foundation?
Which group of fans gave a 5 figure sum to the Erskine appeal?
Which group of fans are their singing to the final whistle of every game supporting / backing the team?
Now the above doesn't give them the right to act in any way which embarrasses the club.
But in your mind what is more embarrassing?
Tennis balls on the pitch to raise your concerns?
Or a "friendly" in Australia that you don't agree with but aren't prepared to take direct action against to bring your concerns to the clubs attention?
We also have the UB's getting the blame for all "party" songs being sung at Ibrox or in away grounds.
Well their was guys double the age of the average UB member giving it full belt with some of the banned songs.
Who's more out of order? A young man in a group with peer pressure or an older guy who should know better?
Fortunately I'm at an age where I know better.
And it's time to leave the songs of hate in the past as we try to promote a club open to all.
Everyone, Anyone.
The UB do a lot of good but can do better at other times.
But to vilify and blame a group of young Rangers supporters for all our fans ills? That doesn't sit right with me.

The Union bears are a disgrace for what they done yesterday there is no defending it. Also wasn’t that king who the majority of rangers fans had a go at Celtic for doing the same during a game with tennis balls but now it’s ok because our fans done it?

Did it help the players? No you can see that by McGregor reactions.

The songs getting song the Union bears need to take full responsibility for it it’s them that sing the songs home and away and they shake our club.

You can’t defend the indefensible.

Boom! Have some of that MPH!

Possibly one of the best posts ever!

I’m not sure how I feel about the ‘friendly’ it’s perhaps ok for me until they call Ange homecoming then I’m like ‘stick it where the Sun don’t shine’

I have to say though MPH at this stage of the season and considering how the game was going it was not welcome by the players and the management who are trying to give those same fans another title.

Don’t give us another title and then you’ll hear all the abuse and usual garbage flung at our team!

There is a time and a place and yesterday at that time when our team was struggling was not it for me!

Anyway brilliant post! Point very well made.

This title is far from over and our team will need everyone of us backing them the right way.

Totally agree with you MPH, but the main reason is the word 'friendly' as the pending court case suggests, we don't want to be associated with them at all.

MPH another good post full of good substance and knowledge. I agree with you fully the UB give great support home and away but do some daft stuff but every club has an element like that. The UB are just an easy target. Keep up your good posts MPH.

Good post mph we all loved the union bears last season when they made sure whole of Glasgow knew about the 55!

I'll flip it on its head, Storm.
Did their continual backing of the team after the interruptions yesterday help the team?
Gio and the players went to applaud the fans after the victory.
If they were p. ed off with them would you not have walked straight of the park and not acknowledged them?

Certainly don’t condone the behaviour of fans throwing anything on the park or singing any outlawed songs however I don’t actually blame ub for everything as I also still hear some songs throughout stadium being sung by guys with no affiliation to ub. I was for the mini tournament in oz as the club trying to bring in much needed revenue and it seems to be better than we get from domestic games. However it’s being classed as a friendly now, we don’t play them in friendly! That said jock Wallace said he’d play them in North Pole if conditions were right, that’s good enough for me 👍.

Singing the F word to a team full of catholics 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ just shows the mentality of some.

What’s the problem with it being called a friendly? And why would folk care if Celtic say an Ange homecoming? Is it a tournament or is it a one off game? If part of a tournament then other teams will be involved and it won’t be a friendly. If it’s a one off game then it’s a friendly. That’s just terminology that’s used just like we’ll play in a pre season tournament and will also arrange pre season friendlies. Are folk really that narrow minded that they won’t use a standard footballing terminology because it might insinuate we’re friends with Celtic? Surely we’re beyond this kind of school playground mentality? And as for them calling it an ange home coming, we’ll is he not Australian? If we were playing Celtic in the Netherlands would rangers fans not say it was a Gio homecoming? . Some folk need to get a grip, quite happy to call it a friendly when we’re playing Linfield. Look at it for what it is, a game of football that counts for nothing that will bet us a few million quid.

Flip it anyway you like McGregor made his thoughts knowing and he still applauded them so I’ll stand by my opinion. Ub are a disgrace.

Laudrup I never loved them last season.

I for one would be happy for the game to be played to gain revenue how many clubs in Europe can go to the other side on land and make 3mil for a friendly not many! If this was a sc final or final game of the season like other leagues have tried to do then I wouldn’t be for it but it’s a game that wouldn’t happen here an old firm friendly and as said gives us that extra income.

Laudrup no one’s arguing with the good they do, but they get praised for that and quite rightly so. Are you suggesting they shouldn’t get called out for their sectarian songs and throwing missiles? So we just ignore their wrong doings because they do good as well? I’m sorry but I’m not having that. Here’s another thing, stewards are paid to steward the fans and make the ground a safe environment for people to come and watch a game of football. They’re not paid to pick up loo rolls that complete morons have decided to throw into the pitch. I couldn’t be a steward, I’d have thrown every single tennis ball right back at the clowns.

Stewards are paid to protect the fans?
I must have missed the game where a fan / steward was injured by a bog roll or tennis ball!

MPH they could have protested with a display highlighting what their issue was and that would have had no impact on the game. They wanted to have an impact on the game and the GK of the team they follow called it right. They put their protest first above the team.

To be honest not blaming the UB totally but like the green brigade, they are seen as ultra’s and are proud to be that. They create a good atmosphere and do a lot to allow the club to celebrate its achievements. However sometimes for those fans an entitlement kicks in and they sometimes believe they are more important than the club, the club wouldn’t survive etc etc. So like most hardcore followers, who are usually the minority and least objective they will make their protest more dynamic.

I am not against Australia and put that above my dislike for Celtic. Why. Because it has a positive financial impact on my club that I support whilst not impacting on my moral compass. I am older and therefore can be hopefully more objective. The singing of the party songs is another issue, which will be hard to eradicate, especially at away games.

It never had an impact on the game, Windy.
We still won. The second half stoppage was in the first minute of the second half. So we still had the full 45 minutes to win the game - which we did.
I prefer to deal with facts than ifs, buts and maybes.
And i agree with you in regards to the UB ( and posted as much elsewhere ) . They do a lot of good but it doesn't entitle them to behave in a certain way.
My issue is with some blaming them for all the clubs ills and thinking we are going to become a "model" club with the banning of the UB.

Protest absolutely but not when the team is chasing a league title and needing the fans full support for 90 minutes. Idiotic to think otherwise.
