Well guys what's your thoughts on the statement from the Barnsley owner Paul Conway, he believes he can end the dominance of Rangers and Celtic in Scotland if he buys an SPFL club. Apparently Conway's Pacific Media Group already own several clubs around Europe and he seems keen on investing in Scotland to end the dominance of the Old Firm, The group tried to buy three Scottish clubs last year but it collapsed due to a rule change, however, four SPFL clubs have commissioned a strategic review of football in Scotland which could end up with another change in the rules to allow this to happen. I personally would like to see it as it can only be good for Scottish football in the long term, the game here is dire and the Scottish contingent competing in Europe outwith the Old Firm get knocked out every season in the VERY early stages of all tournaments.

It took Gerrard 3 seasons and financial investment to win the league.
Celtic have spent a fortune and huge player turnover just to try and stay competitive this season.
Not sure it's as easy as Conway thinks. And his business model is based on trying to raise money through player sales to reinvest.

Happy for anyone with drive to get involved in Scottish football but the article came across as pretty condescending to me, as if other clubs in Scotland have never thought about trying to sell players to make money.

Good luck to him but I think we've heard and seen it all before. Many a club has tried and failed. The financial gap is far too big for any sustained success to be probable for a club outside the old firm.

Very interesting just the same, I haven’t read it, but I will try to, any changes to Scottish football would probably be better than the pathetic parochial stat it’s in, even the English lower leagues may not have a better standard, but they’re far more compet, The druids of Conwy do better than Aberdeen nowadays.

Foreign Ownership has never worked In Scotland. In the case of Celtic I do not regard Ireland as foreign.

I seen the report and would welcome it as it could only be good for Scottish football more investment just what team would he buy?

It would be great for the game in Scotland, but what club outside the old firm has a fan base to match the ambition?

I think it comes down to the fact that the country's population can't sustain the amount of clubs that we have. There's the idea of amalgamation of clubs, but Highland United, Fife Kingdom, Edinburgh City, etc, etc isn't going to happen so we have what we have and no amount of money pumped into say St Johnstone just won't work. Unfortunately.

Too many small minded club “ committees “ men, assed on down the families, they have fought tooth and nail to keep they’re little bit of power, success isn’t important to them, it’s the power they crave

And some sadly reach the pinnacle of corruption at hampden.

The communities also count Tom, they identify with their local club. It's not all about local club owners it's a community identity.
