Was talking to a friend with contacts at both Rangers and several clubs from down South and he has told me that there are at least 8 clubs looking at Bassey with a view to move for him this summer. He has been told that enquiries have been made and we will be looking for at least 23m and a 20% sell on. For me as good as Bassey is and will be this would be excellent money. Gio would be given at least 15m to invest in squad with 8 going to running costs.
Also hear that our scouting networks have been looking at a few young players that are out of contract down south and that we will continue to take advantage of the cross border compensation fees to bring up decent quality players like Aribo and Bassey
He also says we have big interest in scouting in the Eastern European markets Croatia Poland etc. Huge potential in players with not a lot of money involved. Being sold on Rangers being a stepping stone to the 5 big leagues. Has become better selling point with our European performances past few seasons.

If our euro run doesn’t cover gio kitty and our running costs sometimes is terribly wrong lol 23 million for bassey is amazing money tho but 15 million at more about about to spend that on jota and vickers at the least.

Don’t want big Shirley to leave, but if the numbers you are mentioning are true, can’t see the club being able to turn that sort of money.

Hopefully he is part of a bidding war, that will drive up the price.

If he did leave, I think we will need to sign another two CB on top of bringing Soutar in.

Is it just me that thinks 23 million is too little. I’d say 30 minimum. The guy would fit in the top 4 sides in England easily and would only get better.
If Tierney went for 25 million and is injury prone, was older than Bassey at the time of sale, played vastly in a league when rangers weren’t in it and never done anything in Europe then Bassey who is younger, never injured, can play in various positions, has been motm in countless European games against players of much higher value should be more in my opinion. Add inflation in general of transfer values since Tierney sale and it makes sense.

I would rather Bassey stays, the way he's played towards the season end, we wait and see if it's paper talk re villa etc chasing him. 20 odd million might be too much to turn down, who knows? Did I not read that the other young defender we signed from Leicester is a similar sort of player, with same potential?

I agree blue and said this the other day. Surely if tierney went for £25m then that should be the starting point for negotiations for Bassey. I really don’t want him to go, would like to see him get an improved package and be here for our attempt at CL and another long run in Europe next season. Depends on who is in for him but think he loves it at Rangers and would want European football again but money talks unfortunately.

While I would like to see us retain Bassey if we are offered £20m+ for him I cannot see us keeping him. Even without his departure I believe that we will need to invest at least £15m on the players that we need to take us to the next level although I also acknowledge that there are some very good Bosmans available that we could pick up, (albeit with a significant signing once) .

I have to believe that GVB will have a minimum list of four or five of his own players that he wants to bring in and I believe that we need to sign a goalkeeper, a minimum of one, possibly two centre backs, a defensive midfield player, a striker and an attacking midfield player.

I am assuming that a number of players will leave including Davis, (who needs to move on), Goldson, Helander, (too injury prone), Simpson, Itten, and two or three others.

We must strengthen this summer, we failed to do so last year and it cost us the League.

Agree with everything your saying Berkshire. I think we could get 15m from the extra EL income, Patterson/ Gerrard fees and the small fees for those players you mention. That would mean we wouldn't need to sell any of our better players to improve the squad but if any do go then we will be well placed to replace them.

this should be a great pre season, i expect at least 2 big signings along with a few others, gio didn’t come back on a promise of a 100 quid, he knew what the plan was and signed up to it, it’s gotten even better since then and i hope we have a formidable team to bring back the title.

Someone saying we can't demand 25million re bassey WHY NOT! Players around Europe go for way more and bassey proved himself on some big stages this season. If you go in with an attitude of your club or league is small then you will be small aim high.
