Once again our friend buzz from across the city gets his stats and facts completely wrong. According to him Feyenoord where on the bring of being a great team finishing second to Ajax so basically saying that gio inherited a winning team.

Aaaah so let me correct him once again. In the season 2013/ 14, Feyenoord where managed by Keoman and yes did in fact finish 2nd. When the season finished Keoman left the club and was replaced by Fred Rutten, they also sold 12 of their first team squad. Season 14/ 15 they could only manage a 4th place finish, finishing 29 points behind PSV, they where also ko out of both cups 2nd round and 3rd round.
When Gio took over in his first manager job in Season 15/ 16 Feyenoord where a complete mess and at the time they weren't expected to finish in the top six. Under Gio They finished 3rd and won one of the cups. His total spent was 4.5 million.

His second season 16/ 17 he guided Feyenoord to winning the league and to the quarter final in one cup and the final of the other one.

3rd season 17/ 18 having lost several of his top performers to Barcelona and Juventus he still managed to win both cups but could only manage 4th in the league.

Last season
Season 18/ 19 he once again did well in the cups winning the main cup and getting to the semi in the other. He also managed a 3rd place finish.

He then went to China and could only manage a 11th place finish with his new club. Several factors contributed to this one being so far away from his family, also he was assured that funds would be made avail to improve the team, however due to a rule change within the Chinese league these funds where never made available. Then CV hit and he returned home.

Gio has been a successful manager in 11 years. He's won cups and leagues. We took a risk, that luckily worked out. Sort of. 1 trophy in three years. Hm. Was that really good enough? No in my opinion. We lost two leagues before winning the most important, but hopefully things will get even better. Gio knows the score. Stevie won't have three years in the EPL to win something. No way jose. a bad run and he's out.

I remember the late great sir walter smith saying in his first spell as rangers manager, that at rangers you have to win everything but if you win the league each year as rangers manager you keep you're job as cup tie football is one off games and completely different from the marathon it takes to win the league👍That's what makes you the best team in the country 👍.
