Personally I would take any bid that comes in for our players that we need to move. Anything above a quid is good for us as
1. We get them off our wage bill
2. We do not need to keep players and pay them when we do not need them
3. We do not need to pay up their contracts

Its not just the wages, they will be getting hired cars, free meals at the training centre, the kits, physio and all that. They add ons are about 3-4 grand also a month. Just ship them out the door.

Some of that might be true Jonny, but we can’t go out and spend £3/ £4m on players whilst at the same time letting go all of our current players for practically nothing! There’s a little thing known as ‘balancing the books’ that’s quite important in business. I’m guessing you’re not an accountant ?.

No I am not an accountant but if you look at it logically. The players Amortisation gets us off the hook with that. So take Tav for example, we paid 200k for him, he has been at club for 8 years so the true value of Tav on our books is 25k. 200,000/ 8= 25k
So really if we let the players go that's not in the first team plans then it is really irellivant how much money we get for them. Just ship them out and we do not have to pay them and get some sort of fee in to free up wages.

{Ed001's Note - that is not how it works. You don't just divide the amount by the number of years they are there. The fees are usually amortised over the course of the initial contract, hence why Chelsea were giving out such lengthy deals last summer. Current incomings now have to be rendered in the accounts over a maximum of 5 years, no matter how long the contract is.}

Johnny fox that's the worst bit of accounting I've ever come across.

So how does that work Ed? Use my example of Tav? if it was a 5 year contact and we paid 200,000k 200,000/ 5= 40k? But he has been here another 3 years so I presume the value of Tav on the books is 0?

{Ed001's Note - yes, in essence.}

The thing is though Jonny, not all of our players were brought in for 200,000 like Tav. How about Kent who was £7m plus a fortune in weekly wages and walked for nothing. The club has been talking about improving its player trading model continually for the last few years for a very good reason. For years we released players for virtually nothing or paid them off. Fortunately now we are starting to get better, the likes of Patterson Aribo and Bassey for example. However that has to continue. If we are going to be spending 3/ 4/ 5m on a number of new players coming in we need to try and make as much as possible for those going the other way. It’s simple mathematics really.

I like the model we had with Tillman. If we get a few more of them we have cracked it. We made more from Tillman than we will from say Wright or McCrorie and Tillman was not even our player. Proper street hustled Bayern with that one. Pulled their pants right down. However done that deal should be Knighted I say.
