So far without a DoF we have done well with our signings. Can we scrap the whole idea safe on a wage and cement trust in the managers decisions. Surely we must have had players in through mark Alan or Ross Wilson where it hasn't been the managers first choice and even where the managers has thought wtf. We did well before without them. People will say times have changed but not that much. If contracts are the thing admin staff can deal with that. Let the gaffer pick his players. In my opinion this has the makings of the best transfer window in decades. WATP ????.

A director of football does more than meet players to sign.

Well I still think we don't need one.

Cmon Livi admin staff? As far as contracts, length, cost etc. TERMS AND CONDITIONS We need DOF to deal with specifics. Manager can identify signings but only DOF can get over line.

So how did we manage before and how are we doing it now.

Also in your admin staff you can employ accountants and lawyers so no issue.

So you want to employ a team of lawyers and accountants instead of a director of football? Don't think so.

Didn't say that but you could. For about 140 years out of 151 we never had a DoF so why the need.

This DoF Debate is interesting. I have been on the fence but have concluded that a quality DoF would be a major plus because generally these guys have a major player network. Of course if you want quality you need to have a proper budget, (even if it is to target the Bosman Market)!
The alternative is to have a top quality legal team and rely on your Management team, which seems to be the route that Celtic has followed.

Berkshire I'm thinking the opposite mate, it's there dof signing players because Rodgers would have no part in the deals for that Norway and Australia lads.

I'd imagine the dof would liase with scouts admin staff legal dept so it's a big job and prob better having 1 than not. Any news of who'll get the job I'd read David weir was our preferred candidate.

DOF is a specialist role that needs filling, our manager shouldn’t be here there and everywhere trying to sort out deals he’ll be burnt out before the season starts.
MB should be fully focussed on shaping the squad into a coherent football team with an identity that we can appreciate.

Livi why are the majority of big clubs outwith Scotland using them then Football has moved on a hell of a lot since back in the day. Also why do some fans think all the dof does is sign players . Do some research into the roll before posting nonsense.

I was led to believe the DOF is in place not only for doing dealings and all the graft behind scenes for the manager ota also so its an easier transition if a manager parts ways with the club, basically buying players solely by the manager and he leaves meaning full system change every time rather than a mix of DOF list and manager list.

Williewanfit makes a good point regarding MB burning himself out before the pre season even starts, I'm puzzled by our approach this time round to be honest, BR won't be running all over the place, I wouldn't imagine so anyway.
