John, this simply goes to show why we are forced to utilize the European market. Whilst not a showstopper that looks a fairly reasonable deal to me. If it means having to pay much more for to get a deal done then I’d be more nervous.

From memory Watford paid something like £500k for Porteous a couple of years ago. Why we didn't go in for him at that point is beyond me. We've been screaming out for a CB for years (hence the continued contracts for Balogun, who while still our best CB should not be getting relied upon at his age) . Yet another criminal failing by us in the domestic transfer market coming back to bite us.
I'd be for this move, but can't see it happening without us stumping up some real £££s (ideally as well as Dowel) . He's a first choice player and they're still in touching distance of the play-offs.

Personally would really like Cameron to come in too. Even if it’s a deal for the summer. He’d replace Dowell.

If Watford won`t go for this deal and they asked about Dowell, can we not just sell them Dowell and get him off the books . We could then use the money to sign a centre half from somewhere else . What about Liam Lindsay from Preston, big, left sided, Scottish and I read that he is out of contract at the end of the season. He is playing regularly but Preston have just signed a centre back so there may be a deal to be done .

He’s a bad tackle waiting to happen, gets rag dolled outta position constantly and Watford are leaking goals losing 4 games outta their last 5! Its clear the support are decided in signing Porteous but I can understand why we wound go for a player like him.
At times I think our woman’s team would bully our defence.
When it comes to games like Hibs, Motherwell etc we need to be able to defend high balls aggressively and we simply can’t do that just now and it’s cost us badly.
I think Porteous would need to mature and if we don’t sign him I hope we get an equally aggressive (but controlled) defender.
