I heard from a mate King is lining up investment of the t0 he says is needed. 1 is Billy walker who's said he's invest under right conditions. Any1 hears anything.
28 Oct 2024 08:07:29
Is it 'investment's in the club or King selling shares?
28 Oct 2024 08:35:25
As was finally’ pointed out in the main stream media the other day (first time a so called journalist has actually come to the correct realisation) . Outside investment is all good and well, however very little of it if any will actually be able to be spent on the team. UEFA regulations mean that clubs can spend a maximum of 70% of their revenue on the first team players and coaches.
We had to slash our wage budget this season just to try and fit into that criteria. So no matter how much we could bring in from investors. Very little can be spent on players. We need to start trading players for much more (unfortunately as Celtic have been doing for years) We can’t just spend millions that we haven’t earned ourselves as a club.
28 Oct 2024 09:40:47
Correct gers most fans don’t understand this tho.
28 Oct 2024 10:19:55
It's because we've been run that way for decades. Rich guys pumping in money to buy and pay players we can't afford.
28 Oct 2024 10:44:19
Correct we need to live within that 70% regarding players, thus the cost cutting exercise on players salaries. So why did we give the manager a new improved extension to his contract? Why are we still looking for expensive CEO”s etc.? Why have none of our own B team made the grade yet? Why did none of our top earners get sold before they left for nothing yet kept getting improved contracts to protect the club.? Why do we keep changing managers? Why do we keep changing chairman’s? Why are we 9 points and 16 goals gd after 9 games behind.? why do we have a raw championship level forward as our 2nd forward? Why looking at the squad do I not believe we will make much money off player trading this year and why after stoping 10 in a row, we are being feed it will take 3 years and maybe 7 in a row to resolve this? Who was held accountable for Beale?
So please stop talking about fair play being the big issue here.
28 Oct 2024 11:24:09
Ok Windy, at what point did I say that ‘fair play’ was the reason for all of those things? Clearly everything you have mentioned is correct and everyone knows these problems. I was just pointing out the fact that magically bringing in random billionaires that want to spend all their money on us (not going to happen as there are none out there) is not going to work, even though this seems to be what a lot of our fan base wants/ is hoping for (even the likes of Souness is spouting about spending £50m on 4 players to match Celtic) . It just can’t be done. Realistically we are a bit of a mess behind the scenes but in all honesty is it much of a surprise? Since 2012 we have had about half a dozen different people/ boards in charge, not all working in the best interest of the club either (some actively working against us almost) . Even the ones with the clubs interest at heart have had to waste millions and large amounts of time trying to get rid of those that were screwing us over. All that time the actual footballing side of the club has suffered. Winning the league a few years back was almost an anomaly papering over the cracks. All of the things you have mentioned are completely correct and will unfortunately take time to fix. We must make sure that we get the right people in the right positions within the club and start heading in the correct direction with strong stable foundations in place. Unfortunately I do not see a quick way out of all of this. Celtic are years ahead of us in terms of being a well run stable business, and until we can match them in that area then any success we have against them will continue to be an anomaly rather than the standard position. Again for clarity, all I was saying was magical millions from secret billionaires will not create a quick fix.

There are ways round these things, for example if we had a rich owner who has a successful business then he could " invest" his money by way of sponsorship deals . He may not be able to put in £50 million in this way because it would get looked at as overpaying but a sponsorship of the stadium at £10 million a season and even the Training ground for a couple of million would start to give us cash to improve the squad.
We don`t want to do anything illegal but there are opportunities for legitimate investment that would increase the clubs revenue. Other clubs do it, we just need to have someone willing to put the money in that allows us to start looking at these things.

Gers wasn’t applying you did. Sorry if you took it that way. My post was mainly regarding the mess we’ve been in since 2012 and the amount of money wasted by individuals. This constant 3 year plan to salvation won’t work, it hasn’t worked. Sorry a football team playing at the highest levels, hoping to win honours has to be operating better than us. However most are in debt. Celtic have been better than us at that. They sell when a player is on the up and bring a player in to meet the formation. We hand out large contracts to average players, don’t sell and then buy and play them out of position to play a formation that doesn’t deliver results. All under the guise it’s a project.
To be honest as long as we are playing in Europe, even the conference league and making money to tick over, that will keep some happy. We are the 3rd best team at the moment in the spl.
As PC just keep him as he no other manager will change that team without players. This rigidity to formations is a killer.

Wsl… you do realise that Man City have over 100 different charges against them for exactly that kind of thing? Tell you what, I also hear that there is this wonderful thing called an EBT that could help us save money too! Maybe we should try that? ?.
28 Oct 2024 12:25:42
Also wsl, there is nothing stopping us as a club selling naming rights for the stadium or training ground right now and bringing in money that way, without any new billionaires having to be on the board. The problem is that there has to be someone or some company out there wanting to do that, and Scottish football just doesn’t have a big enough pull to make that an easy thing to do.
28 Oct 2024 12:29:17
Not always as simple as someone coming in to pump money in via sponsorships however the figures you are using WSL are pretty reasonable. Under FFP rules, income for stuff like stadium naming rights have to be within market values. Looking at BT Murrayfield as an example, if BT are paying, say £10m a year, we wouldn't get away with £20m for Ibrox. Maybe £12m as a cap. However the figures you have suggested are realistic and ideally that kind of commercial activity would help.
Need player trading to work but still a pipe dream for now.
Board and Exec structure needs fixed asap. Perhaps there will be a takeover and this is the hold up, but equally could be current boardroom ineptitude. Hope it is the former, concerned for the latter.
28 Oct 2024 13:37:06
for a takeover the board members need to want to sell their shares. will that happen i don't think so.
28 Oct 2024 19:34:09
Gers78 Man City are accused of overegging these deals and that's why I said we couldn`t just get someone to pump in this mythical £50million in this way . I thought the figure I stated was reasonable considering what other stadiums are sponsored for.
And you are actually right there is nothing to stop somebody or some company doing that just now but either nobody is interested or we are not actively pursuing this. However, what we are discussing was how could people who have money that want to invest in the club do so within the FFP rules and I am merely saying this could be a way. If you were to actually bother to read what I typed before you type your sarcastic replies you would already know that's what I meant.
28 Oct 2024 21:42:07
Wsl, I did read it all however part of the ruling of the first set of cases against Man City that has already been settled is that although it is technically ok for owners of clubs to put in place sponsorship from their own companies into the club, the onus is going to be on them to prove that the amounts they ‘sponsor’ are ‘fair market value’, ie the same amounts that any other person willing to sponsor would put in. Therefore as I say, might as well just get the sponsorship from someone who isn’t part of the clubs ownership and therefore wouldn’t end up with the possibility of being looked into for breaking rules, rather than doing it from ‘within’ and then having the possible situation of having to spend millions on lawyers fees fighting ‘accusations’ of dodgy dealing. Let’s face it, it will always look a little bit iffy to the authorities if rich owners plough millions into their own club through ‘sponsorship’.
29 Oct 2024 11:33:44
Gers78, it would be nice to get someone from outside to do it and if we are not actively pursuing these deals we should be . I don`t care what the Training Ground is called and Ibrox will always be Ibrox to me and the rest of the fans.
If BT are sponsoring Murrayfield to the tune of £10million then if the Whisky guy for example wanted to do the same for Ibrox I don`t see how there could be any argument about fair market value . Murrayfield is used for 3 or 4 big televised matches twice a year and Ibrox has at least 18 Domestic games plus cup ties and European matches on the telly with a fair number live. The larger number of games also means more people are in the ground to see the advertising. The exposure for a product or business is far greater.
