Whilst we are all frustrated with results. The opinion from upstairs is PC is going no where anytime soon. My previous info from a few months ago still stands. PC offered to resign, but was talked round with a new 4 year deal to stay. The board see this project as potentially 3 years before we can win the title again.
21 Oct 2024 11:46:47
Can't afford to sack even they wanted to so yes he's going nowhere soon unless offered another job and the blazers get compen then maybe go for hoofball McInnes.
21 Oct 2024 11:59:16
Realistic yes, but if we don’t finish 2nd kiss goodbye to European money
Shambles
He must go.
21 Oct 2024 12:03:23
Born I agree and there was talk at the time of the 1 year extension of the board and POC being aligned to the future direction of the club. I think the contract was to show that time would be given to follow this route. 8 games into a season I don't see the situation changing. Gerrard got the same time by the board at the time as I think they say it as a similar rebuild process. Only difference is that SG beat Celtic.
21 Oct 2024 12:34:54
What board? It's an empty conference Room thesedays.
21 Oct 2024 12:42:19
Three years ain’t going to wash with fans, if we were improving and easy on the eye with creating chances then you can take losing the league knowing we are 50/ 50 going into the next season, we should be beating the rest easily and if we do drop points away to anyone it’s by being unlucky and creating loads, it’s going to get worse and we alll know it.
21 Oct 2024 12:42:20
I think they can afford.
21 Oct 2024 12:55:11
Coopers but remember it’s not worrying times.
Ger88, how is boardroom empty.
21 Oct 2024 12:57:32
Can we afford to finish 3rd.
21 Oct 2024 13:15:46
Because we either have positions that need filled or clowns wearing suits holding the club back John. Bit my tongue long enough fed up with what's going on top to bottom.
21 Oct 2024 13:21:12
I`ve been a supporter of giving the manager a bit of time and realising that beating the other mob is a big ask given the financial restraints but we are still buying players that the rest in Scotland can only dream about so when we struggle against everybody except Ross County the excuses have to stop . Yesterday had been coming for a number of weeks and showed up the lack of heart and flair in the players and tactical awareness by the manager. Graeme Souness used to say " win the battle to win the war", get stuck in and then you gat a chance to play . This team is incapable of that . Too many soft touches have been brought in over the last few years and now that most of Gerrards signings have gone there is nobody left with the nous and physicality to get the job done . Maybe Clement will offer to resign again, this time we should bite his hand off if he does.
21 Oct 2024 13:45:31
Fair enough that the boardroom isn't empty John but the people at the club who should make football decisions is empty as we are inept.
Any info you received wouldn't be correct Borna since the folk at the club who would make that decision ain't in place, he will be here until we appoint said positions. Stay of execution me thinks as if we continue down this path then he will be gone. SG at least had us playing some okay stuff and not the jimmy white that was served yesterday.
21 Oct 2024 13:58:35
Well said Ger88, good to have back!
21 Oct 2024 14:13:52
Still get europe with 3rd spot yes. Hearts are in conference.
21 Oct 2024 14:52:17
Just a farce now sunshine, if we could see some signs of improvement or the right people guiding us then fair enough, but we aren't any better off than we have been for the last 18 months. Yes we've reduced the wage bill and lowered the squad age and I get that takes time, but there's got to be a compromise on getting the right players in the squad and have the right man coaching them. I said at the time I'd prefer Muscat and whilst no-one can know for sure if he'd work out it surely couldn't be any worse than this garbage were being made to suffer through. Going into a new season with Dessers as our first choice striker is criminal, seems like a lovely lad and works his socks off but he ain't rangers standard and I've had about enough of his inability to control or hold the ball up nevermind play a simple pass to a teammate. Look at Aberdeen, are they man for man a better squad of players than us? Absolutely not but they've got a boy in charge who is getting results out of his players and clearly doing something right. Sorry for the rant lads just fed up of one step forwards two back.
21 Oct 2024 15:01:05
Yesterday big Phil lost the fans. He has no style play and is tactically inept. Persisting with Tav like others have before him when he should be nowhere near that team sheet. There is absolutely no way back for him now. We are just delaying the inevitable.
21 Oct 2024 15:02:33
Paul I think 3rd gets Europa Group play offs if one of the top 2 wins the cup final.
21 Oct 2024 15:14:51
Get it is dreadful Not saying this is it but success breeds confidence in anything not just football and the confidence gained from success positively influences performance. I think our team have a low level of confidence from the Celtic and possibly Lille game. Aberdeen have won 13 in a row and drawn one and the winning runs against lower league opposition in League cup was that base to build on. Manager will be using that and the draw against Celtic will let them see that the process works. They also don't have Europe so he has extra time to work on the training ground. So no they aren't better man for man but they do have less changes and that confidence. Some will say grasping at straws but the concept has truths in it from studies. If they lose then that will be their test.
We just need a break and a good win or even performance to give some confidence to what is a new young team and build from there. ever hopeful if nothing else.
21 Oct 2024 15:37:00
What a ridiculous stance! 3 years? If we lose next week to Aberdeen the stadium will be 50% empty for the next home game! If we end up 3rd the crowds will dwindle and coffers will dry up particularly for Conf League games .
21 Oct 2024 15:40:18
Who would ever believe we are talking about finishing 3rd, and if the worst case scenario unfolds, then it’s Europa League playoff.
Early in the season and hopefully results improve, and trying to be optimistic.
21 Oct 2024 16:07:43
As I see it, irrespective of whether the current Directors want to retain Clement or not, if we do not start getting results, most likely starting with the Aberdeen game, then the fan base will become even more restless than they are at present and the situation will quickly become untenable.
Whether we can afford to pay off the manager or not, we may well find that Clement decides to go of his own volition to protect his own credibility.
I might be in the minority but I would like to see Clement remain, even if we end up struggling until Christmas. Like Gerrard and Van Bronkhurst before him I believe that he has been badly let down by the Board, (the owners, to be more specific) . The malaise set in when Douglas Park took over as Chairman, and we have been in decline since then.
From what I have heard, Graeme Park is a liability and I would question what Alastair Johnston brings to the table!
As far as John Gilligan and George Letham are concerned, I am sure that they are doing what they can to steady the ship but in reality the lack the dynamism needed to take the club forward and in reality they don't have the wherewithal to take us forward financially.
In the recent past I have heard rumour that Julian Wolhardt, (net worth reputedly £100m+), John Halstead, (net worth reputedly US$1billion+), and Stuart Gibson, (net worth reputedly £1.5 billion), are all interested in increasing their stake in the Club. I have also been told that Dave King wants to sell, (although there is some debate as to what price he wants per share), and conversely I am told that Parks wants his shares to stay in the Family, (in reality I would like to see the Parks family having nothing to do with the Club) .
We know that it is difficult for new investors to come in, but if the three mentioned are serious in wanting greater involvement then I would suggest that we need to see them make their move sooner rather than later, before matters deteriorate further both on and off the park.
My own personal opinion is that whoever takes over as Chairman must be a substantial shareholder in the Club and must be the person appointing a CEO that he or she trusts. Whether they would wish PC to remain as manager would be their call, certainly not ours and certainly not those Board Members, past and present that have taken us to where we are currently at.
21 Oct 2024 16:28:54
I couldn't have put it better myself, Ger88!
I also like Dessers, but he is just awful at holding the ball up - The boy couldn't trap a bag of cement. I can't believe some on here are trying to justify his inability to hold play up, and control a pass into him, by posting how he needs more of our players next to him for when the ball bounces off of him! What?! ???.
21 Oct 2024 16:56:49
Amsterdam trip Ger88? Think you need one bud, just to chill???.
21 Oct 2024 17:10:30
If it’s a years pay off it’s cheaper to pay him off than have a half empty stadium from now on to the end of the season I simply think if the fans don’t show up the board can’t afford not to sack him.
21 Oct 2024 17:57:59
Amsterdam brings back PTSD fork I don't need any more stress ??.
21 Oct 2024 18:01:45
Can't believe we are talking about 3rd as if it is acceptable. How the standards have fallen. Not acceptable to finish 2nd never mind 3rd.
21 Oct 2024 18:13:41
Copland unlikely europa league playoff as we would be seeded.
21 Oct 2024 18:19:38
Good post Berkshire, I’m told kings recent rant was a significant shareholder offered to buy him out at price he was prepared to sell to 1872.
He wanted much more, not bad for a guy who got majority of his shares for a penny.
I’m told Gibson could be the Chairman
RFC it is not cheaper, rangers have the money for 45k season tickets and 40k of European tickets.
21 Oct 2024 18:20:50
Berkshire u picking up chairman, ceo and possibly dof in by AGM in December.
21 Oct 2024 18:24:04
Big problems for us who gave him the contract extension let’s be real I will get straight to the point. what improvements do u think Clement has made since taking over from Beale? I will tell u. Not a single one. He has been backed. Bajrami alone cost more than Aberdeens entire squad. He also spent on Propper and Jefte and Igamane. Kasanwirjo is a high earner and we took Aberdeens bright young player Barron. That is being backed. What style of football is he trying to play? Cerny also is a hefty wage. A full czech internationalist. Yet he can't get those talented players to beat an utterly dross team like Killie. The worst of it is its no surprise. Killie didn't spend a single penny on their squad he should have us playing much better it’s just really poor. He has to go sadly or buckle up and endure this season.
21 Oct 2024 18:44:32
It’ll be a lot longer than 3 year, hard not to see Celtic winning 9 in a row again, we really need a plan in place to stop 10.
21 Oct 2024 18:52:26
Lol@gers88???.
21 Oct 2024 19:39:35
John, heard similar reference King, suggestion was that he was looking for more for his shares than was considered reasonable. No suggestion where the offer came from but heard previously that Gibson was keen to substantially increase his shareholding.
hearing that Chairman would be appointed, if Gibson story is correct then he would certainly be well placed to be appointed, not sure about the current situation reference Halsted. If he and Gibson are on the same page they would make a very powerful duo.
I'm pretty confident if the rumours on Gibson are correct then he will already have someone earmarked for the CEO role, and I heard a rumour from the US that we are trying to line up a DoF Stateside but no names mentioned.
Rumour has been doing the rounds for a number of months reference everything being in place by the AGM and Gilligan has the expertise to oversea a 'transfer of ownership'.
21 Oct 2024 19:52:08
SS it’s basic football that strikers need players running in behind him and getting close etc… we don’t have that so doesn’t matter who we play upfront is dessers the answer no he isn’t. I am not surprised that you don’t understand basic football right enough ?.
21 Oct 2024 20:09:18
Randaft he's deduced a huge wage bill and been the only face of rangers for the last three months that's how he's done better than the snake. After the awful hand he was given beginning of the season he deserves time at least to the end of the season to get rid of some of the rubbish beale brought in dessers is the main example.
21 Oct 2024 20:17:18
???? If he could actually trap the ball, hold it up until he can play somebody in, or lay on a pass, he wouldn't need teammates to bail him out. FGS, he tried to control the ball with his back against the goal just outside the killie box, and it actually bounced off him all the way up to the half way line. How do you explain that? What sort of reasoning excuses that?
21 Oct 2024 20:41:00
Dessers hold up play is terrible, every other journeyman striker in league puts him to shame, we never look dangerous through middle of park and when we do go wide the crosses have to be pinpoint because their is only one player in box and if he does win it it’s a one in five chance of scoring, if we cannot get players running into box (Arfield type ) we will struggle to score, we could of easily dropped points at home as well, I would rather we went man for man in formation just to get some excitement in games.
21 Oct 2024 20:43:04
Basic football is being able to trap a ball and pass. Dessers can't do the basics.
21 Oct 2024 20:45:35
Follow follow eh lisbon bill. Well unless were doing rubbish that is.
21 Oct 2024 20:47:15
Great posts and intel Berkshire. Keep it coming when you can, it’s appreciated.
21 Oct 2024 21:15:57
Have we fell so far we are actually discussing if finishing 3rd would get euro football we have to have standards and our board if they truly think 3 years have to be honest and explain how they'll fund it but we are in danger of losing many younger fans who simply don't want to watch our football and a team not winning.
21 Oct 2024 21:25:41
Berkshire, I’m told Bocanegra has made short list.
22 Oct 2024 00:10:53
We all know clement is done.
There is no style of play not a single player has improved under him.
What the new manger is doing at Aberdeen proves it's not all about money.
Clement picks the team and sets them up it's on him that we play 300 passes a game between the defence.
Dessers is awful at times we all know this but and I'm not sticking up for him here is he supposed to do with nothing ball long ball punts upfront.
Nobody else in the team is chipping in with goals.
Look at Celtic they spread the goals throughout the team.
We're sitting here not scored from a corner in near 2 years literally have the longest run in the whole of the UK.
Teams do not fear us if anything they look forward to the game because we are so easy to play against.
The players can be better under a different manger I fully believe this.
Play at a high pace and teams in the spl will make mistakes.
We are not even putting teams under pressure.
Look we all knew this was going to be a tough transition season.
But not 1 single thing is improving yes under Gerrard he got time but you could see progress was happening so the fans gave him time.
Clement is just 1 red flag after another.
Pull the trigger now and get it Over with cause in a few weeks there is a very high chance we are going to be 9 points behind Aberdeen or more if we don't win on Sunday.
22 Oct 2024 01:17:37
@onewaltersmith you are 100% correct on this. To even contemplate finishing 3rd is a disgrace.
22 Oct 2024 06:41:50
You're dam tooting it's most definitely not acceptable to finish 2nd season on season, never mind even contemplating 3rd ? Never our expectations at rangers and quite simply never should be ? Clement will get the season for me unless we just get worse and worse and if god forbid we do finish behind aberdeen then clement must be relieved of his duties at the end of the season, no ifs, buts or maybes about it ?.
22 Oct 2024 08:36:00
It will get worse, Coops! Clement needs to be sacked now, or he's going to lead us into our darkest days since we were thrown out of the spl. No ifs, no buts, he needs to go! If our shambles of a board don't act now, then God help us.
22 Oct 2024 08:58:23
There's no style of play/ tactics/ formation that are clear what the manager is trying to do with this team. I have no confidence in him to turn this around. It's going to get very toxic very soon in the stands and there's only one winner when it comes to that and it isn't the manager.
22 Oct 2024 09:22:44
We are very boring to watch, I agree Scott, we don't have a style of play and we are far too predictable. A lot of people were adamant that these players would be a success once they had settled and that they could see improvement in our performances. I just couldn't see it and always felt this would happen. PC must go now.
