John 2561, do you think a takeover is imminent or do you think the club is in a bigger mess than we know? I'd be interested in everyone's opinion too. Any time in my line of work it means takeover or shutting down.

Agree4 Disagree0

Just my opinion, with no inside info. Something has been festering away for over a year at least.

We had an outside chance of the league at the turn of the year and for whatever reason blew it. Elling a squad of players at that point they were free to move on didn't help. Since then it has been an exodus of players and board members and others.

I don't think it's a takeover ( again my opinion), but I do think we need to brace ourselves for possible downgrading of ambitions, primarily through lack of funds.
Just my opinion mind, hope I'm proved wrong!

Welll its either a takeover, or an absolute shambles and knowin us I reckon a shambles
Woudnt be surprised if we are gunna end up how we were pre-Souness.

09 Oct 2024 16:57:07
I think if fans start voting with their feet they will soon need to rethink downgrading their ambitions. Its massive change at board level and ambition upgraded that's needed.

Murder to have a takeover u need willing sellers, only king falls into that category

Don’t know what u mean by a bigger mess, but be consoled by park wolthardt halstead Gibson Scott Bennett will not allow their money to disappear.

09 Oct 2024 18:46:11
Fans won't accept a downgrading of ambition from our club and if this board can't take the club forward we are in serious bother.

09 Oct 2024 19:01:53
If we were in a healthy financial position I’d agree with you big dado but unfortunately a boycott would probably force the boards hand to downgrade on ambition. I like many others are getting bored with ploughing my hard earned money into all things rangers without seeing it spent wisely but I’m afraid it’s our hard earned money that keeps the club going these days .

Still kills me that we didn’t spend a few quid on a striker or any decent upgrade last year because we would’ve probably won the league last season and probably would’ve pumped dortmund again ;)

09 Oct 2024 19:05:12
could it be as simple as we were spending money well above our actual income so to remedy that we needed to cut spending. Bennett said we had to get rid of a £10.5 million loss pre-player trading and reach a sustainable self-funding business model which didn't rely on directors loans. together with changing FFP rules change was needed.

To do that a change in the way we recruited was necessary and to also aim for a profitable player trading model. that started last close season when several players were at end of contract and we either didn't want them or they could get more money elsewhere. we replaced them with younger and/ or cheaper players wage wise. PC when asked in May if he may have to sell some of his key men to finance his rebuild, he said it depends and you can only sell players if you are sure you can get better for a lower price. You can then use the extra money that you have for different positions.

so he didn't tell the players they were for sale nor did he say in the press (until July) that everyone had a price except Butland. don't let the truth spoil a good story though.

Were is this false narrative that the club are in a mess coming from rangers have a board and sometimes people leave for whatever reason and will be replaced and round and round we go.

09 Oct 2024 20:18:56
You post a huge amount of sense, Angus.

09 Oct 2024 20:41:33
It's a magnificent opportunity for someone, the people in charge right now are not up to it . However to protect themselves and their position they would probably block any approach and muddle on .

We are bigger than Newcastle and much bigger than the original Man City or Chelsea, it's a potential for a constant place at the highest level if the right company and people were running the club.

09 Oct 2024 22:26:56
Angus I'm glad to see another supporter with common sense and that is grounded in reality.

10 Oct 2024 00:20:36
Angus 1 of our regular posters who's right more often than not said PC did inform players they weren't required moving forward but you make good points.

10 Oct 2024 00:20:46
'Downgrading of ambition'! My God, I've heard it all now.

10 Oct 2024 00:33:48
There will be no takeover.

The way our shares work doesn't allow it.

The board have to agree for a shareholder to sell their shares and agree on whom they sell their shares too.

10 Oct 2024 08:11:05
79 I think John mentioned this before. This is from 2022 AGM and not sure if it still relevant and not saying this means there is a takeover. However resolution 7 and 8 at the AGM were passed which meant that the board could sell new shares to investors of there choosing, that is without offering these shares to existing shareholders. now that is the best way for investment to come in as the cash goes straight to the club whereas existing shareholders selling theirs money goes to them obviously. So have no knowledge of takeover other than the same story happens every year so eventually it might be right. for investment this is the better option for the club but the worst for current shareholders as it dilutes their holding. however no-one invests in Rangers to make a profit, they do it for love of the club.

10 Oct 2024 08:36:36
Moffat: no idea why you think we are far bigger than the clubs you mentioned, they could outspend us many times over and no mater who took us over we could never reach their heights, the teams who finish in the bottom four or five all earn close to £100 mill our TV deal is a small fraction of that and even if we had more money no top class player wants to play in our league it’s a very poor league and it’s getting harder to reach the Champions League, I’m sure their may be people looking but looking and investing are two different thing and FFP rules stops sugar daddy’s stepping in.

10 Oct 2024 09:29:07
Angus if investors did it for love of the club why are they getting 3/ 6% interest on the money put in. Fans are the only ones who invest for the love of the club through season tickets and merchandise.

10 Oct 2024 10:45:41
OWS they down get profit on their shareholding, possibly dividends. what you are talking about is the soft loans which have been paid into the club since 2012. some of these have been converted to sales. They sometimes take interest for that correctly. if we had to borrow from a bank do you not think we would pay interest, and at a higher rate most likely. These soft loans have allowed us to spend outside our means for years. it gets around the FFP criteria but that may change given the outcome of the recent Man City case.
when you buy season tickets and merchandise you get those in return. you are not giving the money for nothing which is what you are asking the board to do.

10 Oct 2024 12:25:38
Angus very good post, I stand by players were taken in and told in March they could go, not all have left yet.

10 Oct 2024 12:27:17
Angus u r correct re resolution 7-8. Have been there last few years.

10 Oct 2024 14:20:14
Tj. The board do not have to approve who a shareholder sells his shares to.

10 Oct 2024 17:12:51
cheers John. not in know re players just going by trawl of media and it doesn't say that but you seem to be more in the know so happy to take your word. I take it though by your post, it wasn't all the players who were told; just those who didn't have a future with us?

10 Oct 2024 20:43:14
There is still a lot of chat around a take over at the club - but this could just be due to the various changes in and around the senior levels of the club.

Most common chat is around American money with Souness playing a prominent role.

11 Oct 2024 18:32:21
EHL we are a big draw for investment I would imagine and Souness' name and history with the club brings with it a degree of almost automatic acceptance with a large swathe of the support so I could understand why any investor would want him on board.

13 Oct 2024 13:48:33
twacoos gwt somebody to read the comment to you, I said the original Man City and Chelsea not their current state .
