Balogun was a good player for us and I’d have given him an extra year however a bit like hellander (although not as bad) he has had injury issues. We need a squad of fit players and also, keeping a 33 year old as back up blocks the pathway for younger players like king. I have no idea if he’s good enough but if that’s the thinking, so be it. Good luck to balogun. Quality player and nice fella.

I would have kept balogun but can't believe the negativity towards steven Davis, neither i canWee davo still a quality midfielder that can most definitely benefit us throughout the season Still very fit and still a class act for me .

Agree walter but think balogun would of been better to keep with the likes of Lowry coming through would like to see him get the game time Davis is going to get Davis is still a class player and can calm games down.

Sir walter. He barely got any minutes under gvb. that's how its a strange signing. Nobody hating on him. But his game time will be extremely limited same as last season. Would rather mcCann got more minutes.

Balogun was offered a new deal, but feels at his age he wants one last move where he’ll play regularly. Gio couldn’t promise that as he’s likely to be 4th choice pick at best next season.

Gio stated one of the reasons Davis renewed was to also get him into coaching so must see a role for him in the future and helping our promising midfielders as well as having a role on the pitch.

Baloguns been a great signing, but at 33 he is the one that was always going to make way in my eyes, Kings pathway dictated he wouldn’t get a new deal
If Simpson goes and we sell Bassey, we might need 1 CB and cover at LB
Agree 100% with @Sir Walter, Davis is a class act and still has a lot to offer, we made a significant saving on his wages as well when he signed his one year extension.

Rfc23, keeping steven davis won't effect the emergence of alex lowry because they play in different midfield positions mate Paul86,
Davis was injured for a part of last season and then brought back into the squad and he's fantastic for bringing of the bench to either calm the game down or get you on the front foot, depending on what's happening in the game at the time
Two massive games i'll give you for example when davo was brought on and rangers improved more and got control of the game was the europa league final and the scottish cup semi final against celtic, where he came on and played superbly That's what i'm stating, wee davo can be so beneficial for us for easily another season .

davis is still a fantastic midfielder, and well worth one more year, but i understand that others may think otherwise, , we could buy a midfielder who turned out not to be of davis ability, so at the cost i’m happy he will still be a rangers player,

Why do so many of you think you know better than Van Bronkhorst, an ex professional at the highest level, for both club and country, who’s got his Uefa licences, has worked under Pep, has won trophies as a manager, with an ex world class player in Roy mackaay by his side, and an Ajax academy coach?
If he thinks it’s right for the club and the bigger picture to keep Davis and release Balogun then it’s the right call.
Does anyone stop to think about the wages Balogun was on? Over 20k a week.
Do you think Gio just guesses what to do and hopes it’s right?
He will have sat down, with his staff, with Ross Wilson, the board and most importantly, the players themselves and they will all do what’s best for all parties.
So many champ manager, armchair experts on here who actually think they have the credentials to be questioning GVB on his very well educated and well thought out decisions.

J1426 he wasnt on over 20k tho. wasnt even on more than 15k. Everybody is allowed there own opinion. We barely strengthened last season and its cost us the title. That was a massive mistake by SG. Whos also more qualified than us. Bringing in mostly fringe players.
