I see our former captain barry ferguson is saying in the sun newspaper this morning,
that rangers should move quickly to sign his nephew lewis ferguson, from aberdeen, as there's quite a bit of interest in him. I'm not saying for a minute that lewis ferguson isn't a decent midfielder, but for me i rate our current midfielder greg docherty, who's currently on loan at hibs is a better midfielder than ferguson. My thinking here is why if we're interested at all sign ferguson when we already have docherty?

Agree5 Disagree0

Good question Steven,

Anyone got any indication as to why guys.

22 May 2020 09:45:59
I don’t there is much between them as players. Neither are good enough to make the difference to win us the league. I would value both at no more than £2m.

I think it's as simple as Ferguson is in the spotlight and is viewed as an up and coming star. I have no doubt he is, but as many of you say, we have one who is equally as good or even better, in wee Doc.

Have to say though, he's turned out to be world class in my FM 2020 lol. I've already wine the uefa cup in my second season (with an awful lot of save and replay lol) .

22 May 2020 09:37:31
Bazza was a class player but hardly an unbiased view from him saying sign his nephew! Haha

I do like the look of Lewis when he plays against us he does get stuck in. Don't see enough (would never watch a sheep match not including us) to say if he is consistently up to standard.

Docherty is a better player than Ferguson. Issue is Gerrard didn't buy Docherty.

22 May 2020 10:14:50
With ojo kamara (prob leaving) etc leaving i would keep docherty sign fergie who both will learn a lot with the experience of davis and arfield jack along with 1 of englands greatest if not the world midfieders steven gerrard who in the next year or 2 wil be our cen mid as davis will retire etc.

22 May 2020 10:15:49
Docherty is a better football player, but Ferguson has a 'dig' that we are missing in midfield
50/ 50 for me, either way.

22 May 2020 10:19:54
I’m not convinced Docherty is better than Lewis Ferguson but like mols said none of them are ready to make the difference but I actually think Ferguson has more potential he’s been a regular in the sheep’s side for the last two years and he’s only 20 if we could pick up Ferguson for the same money as we would get for Docherty I’d do the deals if not we should use all our money for a top drawer midfielder that can make the difference.

22 May 2020 10:23:39
Every1 forgetting abt mccrorie.

22 May 2020 10:25:19
Then again fergie might want to follow his dad and uncle to play for rangers and barry is talking it up in press saying others are looking so gers make a move if they want him or to test if they want him.

22 May 2020 10:30:07
Maybe more to do with mentality than ability.

22 May 2020 10:31:29
I really don't get what others see in Docherty. He is decent at the very most. Ferguson is a far better player than Docherty and is doing it week in, week out at Aberdeen. An Aberdeen team that's been 3rd best team in this league for years now. Docherty couldn't break into a poor Pedro Caixinha team. All about opinion I suppose!

For me it all depends on how much we have to pay for him. We have never been let down by a Ferguson in all the time I have followed Rangers and one has to hope that the Rangers tradition in the family would propel him to be a success. My concern is wider than whether we should sign Ferguson, whether Docherty is good enough, (and I have my doubts) ; we need someone in midfield that is a winner and a born leader. I had hopes that Davis would do that job but he is a shadow of the former player and we need better. I personally would try and prise Milner from Liverpool as well as the young Spanish guy, and see how much I could get for Docherty, (who played well in the lower leagues down South, and hopefully see Kamara for £6m+.

22 May 2020 12:15:01
Neither Docherty or Ferguson is good enough for rangers.

22 May 2020 12:46:51
I know I’ll seem like a broken record but given a full season, I’m confident Doc can become a huge player for us. Box to box, reportedly the fittest guy at the club too, capable of chipping in with goals from midfield, he needs a run for a good spell. Happy to be proven wrong but I’d far rather have him than spend big money and especially buying from another Scottish club. Just because he’s Baz’s nephew doesn’t make him any more of a bluenose either. Doc also bleeds blue, not that this is criteria for signing. Maybe helps though.

Guys, I feel that SG doesn't rate Docherty otherwise he would have played him. I think Ferguson is a stronger player, but, I also agree that if possible Docherty should be part of our 1st Team Squad, it's up to SG at the end of the day.

I think to win this league we need a bit more depth than what we currently have. This was shown after the winter break when Kamara suddenly went off the boil, Jack got injured and Hagi was a bit inconsistent. Also bearing in mind that Arfield got pushed wide right.

For me - Get him signed and bring back Doc and let the two youngsters really push the senior guys for starting places. Both have a bit of dig about them and could be the real deal.

Remember that Jack didn't look that great before we signed him either now he has grown into one of our best players.

Also I would sign Boyle, from hibs as a decent wide option.

22 May 2020 14:37:00
Although they are different types of player, Ferguson is much better than Docherty and has more potential in him. He also has more big match experience and will go further in the game than Docherty. I saw Greg often when he was at Hamilton and he didn't do much for me. He started well at Shrewsbury before fading, yet some believe he is good enough to stake a claim in our starting 11 that will compete in Europe? Wake up, people.

22 May 2020 16:05:57
as walter smith said its about who plays for the shirt.

22 May 2020 18:10:18
Ferguson would be a great buy if money is right. Really impressed with him when I've watched him play. Doherty should also be back. Look at him at Shrewsbury and Hibs. Only issue could be the weight of the shirt. Might be too much but never really had a run of games.
