Reading we are in advanced talks to sign Leighton baines from Everton . Age 34 but should do well up in Scotland .

Saw a lot of speculation on FF about this. 4ladshadadream were also looking at it last night.
Probably bias as Everton are my English team but think he would do a job for a season would be another good pro to have in the dressing room aswell the young lads would learn a thing or two.
Might not have played much last season but that was largely down to silva not favouring him with the signing of Lucas digne when called upon still Mr Reliable.
What he may now lack in pace - intelligence experience and deadball delivery which is at least on a par with tav if not better.
Would be worth a punt if the wages were reasonable. He’s a self confessed toffee but the chance to win some silverware before drawing a close to his career might swing it.

He’s been a great professional throughout his career, I’d just love Barisic to show what he did when he played against us at the start of the season.

Even at 34 years old now, if leighton baines is injury free and over all his injuries then its an absolute no brainer for me, to sign him for a couple of years. If we did sign a still quality left back like him,
then i've got no doubt he'd be our no.1 left back for the next couple of years. Like I said earlier, as long as he's injury free. Baines is a terrific professional and barisic could do a lot worse than take a leaf out of his book.

plenty folk on here in favour of baines signing, yet then slaughter any mention of a return for hutton.
they are both 34
the latter has also played far more football in last 2 years
i’m not saying either are ideal but a bit of perspective please hutton’s been a great servant for villa.

Trev i think should tav go hutton could do a job for a season but would like to us build a team for years to come. Would sign turnbull from motherwell, taylor from killie and souttar from hearts. All 3 are types of players we need and way cheaper than cpuld get from down south or abroad.

Baines is very good. Keeps himself fit, doesn't get many cards and is a good lad to have in the dressing room. What's not to like? I know he"s 34 but the experience he would bring could be invaluable.

Wouldn't mind Bains at Ibrox. Very possible we could sign him. Gerrard, our fans and European football is a huge attraction. Oh and Defoe.

My best mate works for Everton in their Recruitment department.
He says Baines is waiting to see if Everton will offer him an extension before he looks elsewhere.

Here's something for you all to ponder on - our team plays a system with attacking full backs with pace and energy as an integral part of that - and Baines cannot run any more. How can anyone possibly see him as a potential asset?

If we sign Shankland then it's an embarrassment to our club how on earth are we going to stop 10 in a row with these ridiculous signings our recruitment so far has been shocking Stewart Hastie Jones on a pre contract and linked with players like Shankland Brophy Max Lowe it's terrible we need quality game changers not average mediocre players Mark Allen needs to get finger out and get better than this and board need to make a significant financial investment again because we seem to be shopping in bargain basement again.

Alan f****ng Hutton - i swear to god, this rumour is on here every year since he left. He was and still is absolute p***, except now he's passed-it too. It was a gift from the gods at the time, when they paid £9 million for someone who was an under-performing squad player at best, who had just had 3 good games. Is Rino Gattuso going to come back to play in midfield? How about Lovenkrands and that slovakian guy who was on loan when we were in Division 2? Honestly, i despair.
