Sportsmail can confirm that Rangers were offered £8million for Nikica Jelavic just hours before the transfer deadline last week in a deal that could have risen to £10m with add-ons.

We have seen emails directly relating to the transfer proposal — the subject of widespread scepticism when made public at the time — that was put to Rangers.

Asked to identify what kind of figure might tempt the Ibrox club to do business, those negotiations were followed by a further email from a third party, acting for an English club, detailing an £8m proposal with ‘incentivised payments’.

Those related to a further £1m, dependent on the performance of the striker’s new club, another £500,000 linked to individual appearances and one last success-related £500,000 slice to take the total to £10m.

Rangers rejected the deal put to them on behalf of the would-be buyers — who Sportsmail have agreed not to identify — at around 7pm last Wednesday.

It was understood that business could not be concluded on the final day of the August transfer window as it left no time for Ally McCoist to line up any kind of replacement.
Jelavic remains one of Rangers’ most marketable assets and was a wanted man during last month’s transfer period.

Leicester City had tabled a £6.5m bid that was turned down. Foxes boss Sven Goran Eriksson, heavily backed by Thai owner Vichai Raksriaksorn, was later critical of the way the offer became public knowledge — with the finger being pointed at Ibrox.

It is also believed that Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish was interested as attacking players like David Ngog, Raul Meireles and Joe Cole left Anfield — before Craig Bellamy returned to Merseyside.

ROUND YE LAWWELL

Believable10 Unbelievable15

Just read it my self mate. Haha lawwell and the "fans" saying whyte is a liar.

Agree0 Disagree0

And it took a week for these e-mails to come out? lmao anyone can set up an e-mail account and send themself one FAIL FAIL

1 Big Gold Star

Agree0 Disagree0

Is that the same paper that said malbranques son was ill?

Agree0 Disagree0

Just wondering why they have too keep stoom about who "the alleged" 3rd party are .surley like the leicester "alleged" bid they would have named the un-named agent..from the un-named club an from watever planet he came from ..dont understand why they named 1club but wouldnt nme the other ....smells a bit like the uncleaned toilets in ur uncleaned stadium ......more whyte lies ... {Ed003's Note - Dunno was it newcastle??}

Agree0 Disagree0

Now its an unknown team, unknown agent, unknown e-mail sender at least this one didnt phone.MACCA

Agree0 Disagree0

Why would anyone choose to believe what the media put in front of them? After all, it is Craig Whyte and his PR team that control what they want the public to know.

Fact is, no team put in a bid of £9million for Jelavic. Rangers are not in a position to turn down any offers of that magnitude due to the 2 tax cases against them.
I'm astounded that (some) Rangers fans choose to believe a story emerging over a week later about an alleged 9mill bid for one of their players yet choose not to believe everything else going on at the club with regards to the tax case.

Agree0 Disagree0

Just shows how fickle the fans are,now whyte is being applauded cos it rammed it up lawell, all he was doing was having a laugh with the media,i would prefer to "ram" it up him by winning the league but obviously i seem to "now" be in the minority.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah, it was from Leyton Orient!!

Agree0 Disagree0

The club are being very cautious about taking in large sums of money right now. The tax man and other debtors are watching very closely and would move to collect from the club if a substantial sum was coming in. The situation is that accepting an offer for any big money player would not benefit the team, as the money would not be available to replace anyone going out. That is one of the reasons that no top player was sold, it was a business decision not a footballing one. The manger simply had no choice but to retain the squad he inherited and simply try to boost the numbers with those journey men he has brought in.

Agree0 Disagree0

Maybe because we will still sell to the mystery club in january and maybe they wanted it kept quiet or the deal won't go through, obviously we didn't sell as there wasn't a better option out there available at the time along with the timescale of getting someone in!

I would rather this was left unless there was conclusive proof. Another half a$$ed attempt does nothing for our credibility

He has retired from football.

GDog

Agree0 Disagree0

His kid is ill so he quit to take care of him {Ed001's Note - that was not true, it was the Daily Mail running a story with no attempt to check if it was true or not.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I feel sorry for u ed i dont no how many times ive seen u write this lol {Ed001's Note - hopefully someone who doesn't know which actually read it eventually!}

Agree0 Disagree0

We can't afford his wages if it's more than £1000 Whyte won't pay it.

Agree0 Disagree0

It's unlikely that he will sign for anyone until the January window, he only became a free agent after the window closed, I think he is now in limbo until January

Agree0 Disagree0

I believe he would be an excellent singing

Says on STV that Rangers might sign Steed Malbranque as a free-agent. He retired to look after his son who's very unwell cancer I think :(. So i'm really unsure why we're being linked with him but hope his son gets well soon. {Ed001's Note - it turned out to be the Daily Mail not bothering to check their facts and in fact Steed's son is not actually sick at all ...... or even real for that matter!}

Believable3 Unbelievable5

That's good news then mate obviously a young boy being ill would be really bad. That aside Steed Malbranque is a good player, not sure if it's true that Rangers are wanting him or paper talk.

Agree0 Disagree0

Steed doesnt have a son, so therfore cant have a son who has cancer. Also, if they released him after the window closed, he cant sign on untl Jan 1st. If they released him before the close of the window (us with beattie) then he CAN sign for a new club

Agree0 Disagree0

Glad no sick kids involved here, relief. Steed was a great player, but let's look to our own youngsters, it's our only way forward guy's. Rangers 'til I die

Agree0 Disagree0

Its QPR not rangers

Big bill outstanding for policing .....what next

Believable10 Unbelievable4

your boring us all pal! Heard enough of outstanding bills let the briefcases deal with that and let us deal with the Support. We all know whats owed and i dnt have it down the back of my couch so until i win the euro millions there aint much i can do other than get behind the team on matchdays not stir it all up with stuff we dont even know is true.

Agree0 Disagree0

Whats your source ?

Agree0 Disagree0

Ally's pie bill aswell

Agree0 Disagree0

The wee tax bill, vat on season tickets and policing will be paid using the £14.5million left over in the transfer war chest ;)

If there's anything left over it'll be used to pay off the vat on Carlos Cuellars dentist bill that's still owed.

Agree0 Disagree0

Rather than use that 14.5m left over. Im sure we will wait till the end of the season to pay them by which time septic will have bottled it again Rangers will be lifting the title lemmon will be out of a job all tht lot will be celebrating 2nd place again. Ally will have got the haters of his back. HMRC will have lost the case we will have champions league money and everything will be rosey again on the south side lol carlsberg dont do footy seasons but they have done the SPL for the last 3 years lets make it 4

Agree0 Disagree0

The Jungle Jims obsession with us is embarassing. Just shows how much they're hurting.

GIRFUY 54 & Counting.

Agree0 Disagree0

Oh Dheclan, give yerself some peace man, whit is wrong with you people ?

Agree0 Disagree0

Back again.Don't know about police bill.try to stick to facts.Club in court friday for non payment of lawyer, who have asked for arrestment of cash(35k appprox).Last week lodged a document as required by law to cover security against profits on CATERING.Looks like a cash flow problem.Have said here before,we're in big trouble. Please stand up and ask the right questions before it's to late.Just ignoring facts and shouting WAPT or NO SURRENDER or 4 in a ROW is not going to make this go away.We may not be in existence 6 months from now.Get real!!!

Bartley is only out for 1 month and McKay will start.

Believable3 Unbelievable3

Are you pickin the team makes no sense to play a stranger when others are available

Agree0 Disagree0

Aye, dodgy making too many changes right before an oldfirm game. mckay will be a regular as the season goes on but could bring him on if we are coasting against united.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think McKay will start on bench to be honest, if he starts against
Dundee united he will get my full support as all Rangers players do

Agree0 Disagree0

He's out for 6 weeks

Rangers suggested as a possible destination for Steed Malbranque according to France Football via STV.

Believable10 Unbelievable17

Idiots for clicking unbelievable, take a look.

Agree0 Disagree0

This guy would be good to get if he is on a free transfer. Good on his day and more than up to Scottish Football.

Agree0 Disagree0

Are we fulham in disguise lol with
Steve Davis David Healy Carlos Bocanegra and possibly Steed Malbranque
take him in a heartbeat

Agree0 Disagree0

Wasn't he released after the closing of the transfer window, meaning nobody can play him until opening of the next window?

Agree0 Disagree0

He quit football cause his son is not well. so very unlikley {Ed003's Note - He doesnt have....ahh forget it! }

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed003...... lol. I feel a bit of repetition kicking in....... But if he doesn't have a son, does anyone know why he actually quit? {Ed001's Note - he wasn't happy with his contract with St Etienne and has fallen out with his father (who is his agent) over it.}

Big Kyle Bartley out for 6 weeks-source BBC Sport. Does anyone know if McKay will be here in time for the weekend's game? Quite looking forward to seeing him play. My mate in Austrailia raves about the guy but although our league isn't the best i still expect it to be a step up from the A League.
J1985

Believable9 Unbelievable5

I know a way to pay the 35k law fees GET SHOT OF GORDON SMITH use his wages.

Believable17 Unbelievable3

Totally agree but getting fed up with all these money issues.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hair Foundation seeking to claim unpaid VAT on Smith's hair weave.

Agree0 Disagree0

Septic claiming discrimination coz no-ones sueing them....

Agree0 Disagree0

Discrimination claims thrown out on the grounds that Celtic actually pay their taxes.

Agree0 Disagree0

Celtic don't pay tax as you have a loss making operation!

Agree0 Disagree0

Lol, I though Celtic made a profit of £102,000 for the year ending June 30.

The club reduced their net bank debt to £530,000, down on the previous year's total of £5.85million and the half-year figure of £9.1million that Celtic subsequently reported.

Loss making operation?

Agree0 Disagree0

Mate u still need to pay taxes if u make a profit or not, muppet

Agree0 Disagree0

Who the F**K is Gordon Smith ? Is that an employee at Rangers fc ? What is his job ?................ Does he exist ? Is his daughter beautiful ? Is he really Lord Lucan minus the 'tash ?
