Falkirk v Rangers in 2nd round of cup

Think you will find that it IS Glasgow Rangers FC and they have STILL to be liquidated. The Rangers FC or any other name the newco receives will still be Rangers so run along pee wee.

Dean Shiels: Ready to snub a new deal at Kilmarnock and sign for Rangers

Rangers are close to completing deals for Dean Shiels and Greek midfielder Pantelis Kafes as they press on with their rebuilding programme.

Ally McCoist, who saw his side take in their first competitive game of the season on Sunday as they edged out Brechin in the Ramsdens Cup, has identified the pair as top targets.

Shiels spent last season in the SPL with Kilmarnock, under the guidance of his father Kenny Shiels.

He has also turned out in the top tier of Scottish football for Hibernian and spent three years in England with Doncaster Rovers.
Fresh terms

Killie were hoping to persuade the 27-year-old to pen a new deal with them, but he appears to be on his way to Ibrox.

Rangers will be turning out in the Scottish Third Division next season but have ambitious plans to make a quick-fire return to the big time.

Shiels could form part of their promotion push, with McCoist admitting that a deal to bring him to Glasgow is almost done.

The Gers, who will be free to register new players from Friday, are also hoping to wrap up a deal for Greece international Kafes before the end of the week.

McCoist said: "It's not over the line yet but I know in both cases there is certainly a deal to be done there.

"I've spoken to both players. They seem keen and we are very keen too so we'd be hopeful something could be done."

At 27 he could end up finishing his playing days in the lower divisions. He shows a lack of ambition in my opinion!

I didn't realise that young Shiels was blind in one eye ! remarkable he is even playing professionally, never heard of that before.

Just wondering other bears thoughts on why boca Gera was chosen as captain ahead of big jig?? Only reason I can think of is because he plays at the back and can see the pitch in front of him.... What's your thoughts

I think it was a disgrace big jig wasn't captain all a can think is boca seemed to b vice captain last year so if he wasn't captain may take the huff and want to leave

Is he not the captain of the USA. Think he has captain quality and a captain should be from the defence(bar the goalie) or midfield.

I'd imagine 100+ caps and being his national team's captain was reason enough.

Gary,he was vice-captain last season,and the captain has since left.McCulloch WAS announced as the new captain,but,however,Bocanegra had'nt signed on at that point.Plus he captain America.Hope this helps mate.

Because he was the club vice captain after davis?

Think he woz captain because he aint going anywhere.

My thoughts are by making him captain it may be another hurdle for him to consider jumping if he wants to quit though Davis never had any problems pole volting it.

Maybe because he captains his national side and is a born leader?

Has anyone thought that maybe ally has an eye on keeping him, and by making him club captain at least for the meantime might just give him that extra want to stay.... Or by being captain might add that extra few pounds on a price tag when he goes!

I honestly didnt think that he had that great a game yesterday , and that he was maybe surprised to see the opposition , albeit from a lower league , were keen to close down a defensive player and not allow time on the ball . Mr McCulloch should be club captain in my opinion.

One of those who did not walk away should have been given the armband.

Wrong call in my opinion unless Boca has indicated that he is staying.

Why not....? Carlos is captain of the United States squad and a great leader... Granted big Lee would do a good job but Carlos would always be my pick.... I just hope he stays with us and continues to partner Goian....He was maybe a little off the pace yesterday but it's been difficult time for everyone associated with the club, they got the job done and will contiue to do so....... If Carlos stays that will be a tremendous result in my eyes.... Captain America.....

Thought Goian was too casual on Sunday. In fact he had started to look like that mid-way through last season. he started off well but faded. I think Bocanegra would do a right good job if he stayed especially if one of the younger guys gets the other CB position. Ideal person to talk the younger defenders through the game

Not being funny,i think Hearts deserve to get him back.He would be missed though.

Why should hearts get him back their debt I believe has been paid off or is in the process of being paid off and if not the debt died with the oldco so they deserve nothing.

Agree hearts deserve him back we shouldn't have bought him if we couldn't afford him, plus don't want the lad missing out on Scotland caps if he's playing 3rd division football
