Ed how many teams get shot at next seasons champs league from scotland ? Just the 1 aye ? {Ed014's Note - 1st and 2nd place both go in at the 3rd qualifying round/
Believable3
Unbelievable4
Really ? I thought I would be one. It was 1 this season wasn't it? I take it whoever finishes 2nd get the harder route {Ed014's Note - No it is an open draw as far as has been said apart from the usual conditions.
Agree2

2nd does get a harder draw. 1st only plays teams from lesser nations that won there leagues. 2nd plays team which are placed in larger leagues such as Liverpool, arsenal, Chelsea, AC Milan etc.

1st and 2nd will get the same standard of draw as both will be seeded exactly the same........

Agree7

The team that's finishes 2nd has no chance of getting to champions league as they play 4th in la liga, 4th in epl etc
Agree0
Disagree1
There r 2 draws the champions draw wat rangers were in to get malmo and non champions tht have arsenal villireal etc
Agree2
Disagree0
The split format introduced in 2009/10 means all teams in the hat are allocated to either the Champions Route or the League Route, with the two sets of clubs kept apart until their potential arrival in the group stage.
The Champions Route involves the winners of the 17 second qualifying round ties plus the champions from the associations ranked 14 to 16. The ten sides boasting the highest UEFA coefficient are seeded. Five are seeded in the League Route, which is made up of the third-placed side from the sixth-ranked member association, plus the runners-up from the associations ranked 7 to 15

this is a genuine question. Who is driving the
Jelavic transfer ?
1. Rangers F.C. /
2. The player / his agent ?

Agree2
Disagree3
Who's going to replace him if he leaves.we were short of strikers even with him here still worried now. True blue
Agree2
Disagree4
If we really want to win out of the Jelavic situation then we need to hold onto him until the summer, get his goal tally up, play a couple of games for Croatia at Euro 2010, maybe score a couple of goals and let a bidding war begin.
At World Cup 2010 we saw big Bougie play out of his skin. We should have shipped him out right after that tournament instead of selling him for less than we paid at the end of the season.
Barry Barry
Agree11
Disagree2
Added suggestion 3 is stupid - why would potential suitors risk having to pay more than they think he is worth
Agree2

Rangers are driving it,trying to start a bidding war.we are a feeder club to the premiership and championship at present but we will be back.

My next question - how much of any transfer fee received will McCoist get ?

Ref to the guy talking about Whyte doing alot behind the scenes, I totally agree mate, I think it's plain to see he's trying to get us out the mess we're in while keeping us at a decent level on the playing field. He's came across as very astute from the 1st day he got involved in buying Rangers. "Bain drops bid to uncover details of club's debts", bit of coincidence I think noow that we get close to the end of the tax case, Bain will not have a leg to stand on, neither will any previous directors, chairmen. They're the 1's who got us in a mess, Whyte see's a future without big transfers, wages and debts and understandably so. WATP

West Ham are never going to get Jelavic.
They made a bid of £4.000.000 for Jordan Rhodes, and look more likey to pursue that deal with a new offer set to be put in by the club.
Why would they bid £8.000.000 for a player who is around six years older?
If he is going to go anywhere I imagine it will be to either Liverpool or West Brom, and not QPR as it looks like Hughes has his own targets in mind from his former clubs.
Believable4
Unbelievable8
From what i hear hes been told hes going no matter what clyde 1 have said rangers have sent some1 out to sell him to the highest bidder u think this means we are looking for money to cover the tax case must be a smaller bill to come from then cause we are signing this new guy on 3 year contract and am sure his agent wouldnt send him some where thats going bust, i know he has value but forcing the guy out is wrong, gazza
Agree2
Disagree6
He will go on the last 2 days for a undisclosed fee. For talking sake Liverpool could bid 8m half up front then the rest later, west ham might go 7m 6m up front the rest depends on how much he plays etc.
He's Rangers biggest asset & could be replaced with a free transfer ie Boyd ? That said doesnt matter how much he goes for, depends how much rangers get up front.

There is no way hel get sold to close to d-day. If wer goin to sell him it will be done in time to replace him unless we bring in coverage upfront before that. Wer skint, not stupid!

You's all talk so much crap. It's more likely he'll still be at rangers come 1st of Feb, unless a bid of £10mill comes in and then its purely business wether we are skint or not. I think there will be movement with players leaving no doubt but I doubt it'll be Jelavic, Davis or McGregor unlless big money is involved. WATP

Agree2

Re graham,, everyone wants to sign for a top four club, fact is 99% including jelly aint nearly good enough.
Hes a mid table player at best, as can be seen by who is showing REAL interest in him.
Clubs nowadays have tremendous scouting facilities, and know everything about a player before going after him, speed, agility, attitude, stamina, overal record as in goals scored against different quality of oposition etc.
If we get 8 million its a great deal for gers but he will go mid table or top of championship and with a mid table team he will be lucky to score 12 to 15 a season.

Article on jelavic has a quote from McCoist regarding a bid from West Ham "The reported amount would not be enough to meet the demands of the owner; £6million is not nearly enough." - Sets off alarm bells to me that Whyte is seriously entertaining the idea of selling him. A statement like that surely tells clubs he's available if they want to bid again.

The message i got from that interview was that whyte would not be letting players go for less than what we value them at, which is great for us and what you read from this is that rangers would listen to offers.. Im 23 and ive always known that if the price is right for our club we will sell so where have you been ?

But what about the £9 million we rejected in the summer i doubt wed accept a lesser offer than that so therefor £9 million and upwords and we will accept plus it all depends on what the result for the tax case was if we got a deal then jelavic wont go on the cheap and yes every player has a price even Lionel Messi
Agree1

If we sell him for less than 8, i'd say stick in a cheeky 10% of the sell on value clause. You never know what he'll go for after a few years of performances he's capable of. Muzz

Mervan Celik has completed his move to Rangers, signing a three-and-a-half year deal with the club.
The Sweden Under-21 international flew into Glasgow on Friday, completing his medical.
Celik, an attacking midfielder, could now feature for his new team in their Scottish Premier League match with Aberdeen on Saturday.
His former club, Swedish top flight side GAIS, are entitled to £240,000 in training compensation for the 21-year-old and have expressed their desire to claim the full amount.
"He's very direct, very competitive, he can go by people and score goals," Rangers boss Ally McCoist said of the player.
"I am of the opinion he can play in a wide position in a four or a five, as well as through the middle.
"I think he's an all-action player who hopefully the fans will take to as well. More importantly, he will be a goalscoring threat when we get him in the team."

Anyone can see from Youtube that Celik, has technical ability. How he uses it is key, when to pass the ball. Vision, awareness etc. That part you don't see too much of on YouTube, and that is crucial. Getting to play for a start will help, that's my concern, however having said that, I think this lad is WAY ahead of Aluko and he is clearly a regular now. These 2 lads left and right could be very direct. Keep Jelly and the title will go to the wire.

The player is a honduras international and is a pacey right winger who is worth 500k

We have aluko, wylde and now celik (hopefully) why do we need another winger
Agree6
Disagree1
Won't hurt, celik will hopefuly be played just off jelavic the boy gets goals
Agree1
Disagree1
Exactly.....we have Wylde. We don't want Wylde, if we can get some other winger in who is better than Wylde (which shouldn't be hard) I'd take him.
We badly need a striker. Healy just doesn't cut it for me, we need someone to partner Jelavic, a goal poacher to be honest. Jelavic likes to drag defenders all over the place so if we can get a poacher who can finish to just float about the penalty box then we should have ourselves a fine wee striking partnership.
Also, I'd take the armband off Davis and give it to Bocanegra. I'm sorry but Davis isn't captain material, he can't command his players. He would probably start playing more like himself if he weren't captain!

From RFC_Official on Twitter.......
McCoist: West Ham have not made an official bid for Nikica Jelavic. Reported amount would be nowhere near what he would want.
Fran Sandaza deal is off after he rejected a pre-contract offer from the club - the offer has been removed.
Celik is undertaking his medical just now. Hopeful that it will be completed shortly.
The gaffer will be in to talk to the press first this morning after having his picture taken with Mark Hateley. Lots to talk about!
All posted today!

The last celtic v rangers charity match hosted by rangers there was a lot of questions asked [unsuprisingly not followed up by the press] about the costs that were taken out by the host club in relation to the CHARITY match hence celtic never got involved again

Ah the old 'holier than thou' stories coming out now, and when was this 'charity' game?

Take 6 million for jelavic and bring in two new strikers worth it

If the details of this story are to be believed they think they can get him for £6m because their going to pay £5m up front which maybe tempting to us due to our financial situation, then £1m if they get promoted. But what happens if they dont get promoted we lose £1m on the valuation? . I think Rangers might be tempted if they offer £6.5m up front with either £0.5m-£1m if they get promoted. This may also start a bidding war between other interested clubs. Only the club reps know how the tax case went this week and if some deal has been reached with the HMRC on a fraction of the reported £49m the departure of Jelavic to subsidise this may be a telling point. As a gers fan and for 4 in a row i would love him to stay, but if he's going to help the club get out of this mess and we can replace him with an equally gifted player for a fraction of the price we should perhaps consider it. Its going to be a very interesting 11 days left in Jan.

Get real *only club reps know outcome of tax case* only the judges know n if it was anyway good for rfc whytes pr machine would be in overdrive hmrc are looking for a body to hang from the gallows to warn all other companies football and non football n rfc are the swinging body
Agree2

Thats crap we got him for £4m for a cut price which means he would of prob be £6m if not and he has improved so he is worth £8m
Agree0
Disagree1
I wish people would stop saying bring back goodwillie, get rid of ortiz and what not - these players cannot play for 3 clubs in one season. Also Sandaza atm would be a great signing, hes scoring goals which none of our strikers are doing

He,s on You tube and he looks a fair player but i dont know whether the case may be that he's not up against anyone great, we can all look great playing against sh5te, but we'll just have to wait and see

Good luck to John Fleck. Hope he comes back to us ready to push on for a regular place in our team. Playing in the championship can only do the boy good.
As for Celik, I for 1 am excited by this transfer. When was the last time we went out and got a player who is just starting his footballing career, has a good reputation in his homeland already, is an established U21 international and a player we can develop? Usually we go for players who have already peaked or nearing the end of their careers so the signing of Celik is a good one imo. Remember Aluko!! He was a reject/not Rangers class ect, ect. The impact he's made since his move has been excellent. So lets not judge the boy before he's even kicked a ball for us.

I firmly agree, my worry is the young guy becomes a bench warmer like the rest of our youth, where will ally play him, esp with davis, edu, mcculloch, aluko, bartley and prob wallace before him when it comes to our midfeild at the moment, then mckay, ortiz and bedoya etc etc

No they are not. Don't talk nonsense. Look how many options they have in attacking areas Hooper, Samaras, Forrest, Stokes, Bangura and bringing more in. Plus they have other players who can score like Ki, Ledley, Mulgrew etc
Agree6

Have said for ages we needed a decent right back if Ally wasn't going to give Macmillan a chance, Broadfoot and Whittaker are pish poor, and I do believe Ally will get a striker in before the window closes.

Why is everyone still saying sandaza. The guys is p*sh, except from a decent first half of the season with st,johnstone the guy has done nothing

Ha ha laughing at the above post. Samaras and Bangura attacking options. Whittaker has scored more goals than the pair of these and his a rb
