Is Gerrard going to replace Director of football? Some may say it's down to King, maybe but Stevie may say no, and rumours going around he never saw eye to eye with Mark Allen? Footballer Managers like their own guys in after all🇬🇧.

We don’t need a director of football, total nonsense job title to give a chief scout.

In 2 minds about this one. As I’ve said think Allen did a good job, but I agree managers do like their own guys. Think the days when managers controlled every aspect of the club is gone though, and I’m not sure they have the time or even the same drive the likes of Fergie had to go and watch these players themselves and do all the background work on their own. I would like a director of football because that system seems to be the way to go these days, but would like it to be somebody with a knowledge of the club, knowledge of the league up here and someone who can have a close relationship with Gerrard.

Why would he need a knowledge of the league up here? Surely knowledge of other leagues would be far more important as we have plenty of people who know the domestic league.

daisy yore -spot on mate. Only a few weeks ago people were saying he had done a great job with SG in getting in 'quality? '
knowing and trading in the market up here costs us more than bringing in players from elsewhere. my has great contacts and is very highly regarded down south and we will be struggling to get anyone anywhere near his level.

YES, WE NEED A dOf. ANY TOP SIDE NEEDS ONE THESE DAYS. SG will get a say in it, but it won't just be him. (ps sorry re caps)

The Director of Football will be appointed and SG will have a key role in the appointment.

Today's modern clubs must have a director of football. There is just too much stuff to take care of for the manager to do. The director of football is a key role. Just look down south, man utd the one without a director of football and see the mess that club is in.

Rick Witter you're actually clueless mate. Mark Allen and the director of football in general set up the refurb and new stand at Murray park, approached Gerrard and his staff, set up the whole scouting system. What chief scout does all that exactly?

I’m pretty sure the academy and all that was well in place before Mark Allen arrived. The whole training complex was going to be getting revamped and all that anyway and it certainly wasn’t because of Allen it happened. As for the signings that he was apparently brought in to help get. Trying to take credit for obvious signings like Arfield and McGregor at the end of their contracts and Davis coming back is laughable. Defoe, Kent and Aribo, I think we both know who influenced those 3 signings. Credit where it maybe is due is the appointment of Gerrard but again was that all really him with Dave Kings links with Liverpool. He will always be remembered for the many poor signings on his watch. If his role was really that important we will see how quick we look to replace him then.

Part of a DoF's job is to offload players aswell, handle contract negotiations. I think he did well in some areas but offloading players wasn't one of them. Grezda was one of his signings and he was dire last season and Allen couldn't get rid of him. Hopefully we get a good replacement in as I do feel we need to get more value when we sell our players.

By the way Gerrard was in a press conference and publicly said he got on great with mark Allen and said he will miss him greatly and it was predominantly down to mark allen that Gerrard came to us - so nothing of the sort that the
2 of them never saw eye to eye lads Gerrard couldn’t speak highly enough of mark allen and said he was one person in the club that really supported him and backed him
And he also said he would be in on the decision on whoever they bring in.

The modern day DOF is crucial in any top club. They are a link between the business ie the board and the playing ie SG and team. Their duties do include but are not solely responsible for scouting. It's much more than a head scout. For example withdrawing the youth set up from domestic leagues and involving them in continental football. Gives our youngsters a greater knowledge and understanding of continental game improving our youth players reducing the need to buy players like kent as like ajax we produce them.
I would like to see us get someone who has a knowledge of our club but also connections and knowledge of leagues across Europe and further.
