I said on here at the start of the season that a 3-5-2 is the formation that best suits the personnel we have at the minute. Full backs who can't defend, poor centre half's, often overrun in midfield and a centre forward who has to knock his pan in in order to press opposition defenders when they're in possession. A simple change of system addresses to some extent all of these issues.

It's only taken until half an hour into the last game of the season but said system change saw us go from 3-0 down to 5-3 up away at a good side. And we didn't look vulnerable until young rossiter came off as he protected the back 3 well. My point is that while we'd all like to see a mass clear out in the summer, in reality it's near impossible to shift as many players as we'd like. 3-5-2 would IMO only require us to bring in 4/ 5 quality players to show us in a better light.

14 May 2018 00:31:20
could not agree more.

14 May 2018 01:01:59
I agree, we do not havs the players to play the formation of 4-2-3-1 Tav cannot defend at all.

14 May 2018 01:35:04
Mate formations really don’t matter very much. If you don’t have good enough players it really doesn’t matter where you put them. We need at least 4 really good players through the spine of the team and it will make a massive difference

14 May 2018 06:40:31
Bear2306 formations don't matter very much, that's hilarious!

14 May 2018 10:22:37
Wilson0212. 3-5-2 formation was played when we were 3-2 down, not 3-0. I don't believe it's the formation that's letting us down, but the players. Current cb we have aren't up to the job. That will be the main position SG will have to sort out.

14 May 2018 11:00:32
Even at 3-5-2 we shipped in 3 sloppy goals.

14 May 2018 12:29:44
Of course formations matter just as a good manager that can change formations and personel to suit the game matters, heres hoping Stevie G is that man.

13 May 2018 23:04:20
Just saw a post online saying solanke and Flanagan signed on for next year to be confirmed this week. Hope that's true 2 improvements already.

13 May 2018 23:43:33
Where did you hear this mate?

Did it state loan deals or permanent?

Would be class signings if true.

13 May 2018 23:47:30
Solanke had played a lot for Liverpool this year. I think maybe Ings could be more likely but even at that I'd be astonished if either of them arrived.

14 May 2018 00:12:44
Seen that also. think it was football gospel page or something

13 May 2018 23:04:06
I've got a feeling there's truth in the McBurnie transfer. He's a big fan and with McGregor and Cummings likely to be here next season I wouldn't be surprised. Though I doubt the figure suggested by the Sun is correct (or hope not anyway) .

13 May 2018 23:48:25
I think most of us if we're honest don't know much about him but £4m seems a huge amount on paper.

13 May 2018 22:14:58
yes the season was disappointing to say the least on and off the park but with the arrival of sg at least the footballing side will improve.
You never know a few of the under performing players may start to do what they were employed for. As for the talk of taking back McGergor Naismith ect sorry but I wouldn't let them through the door.

13 May 2018 22:49:49
I would take McGregor back in a heartbeat. Far superior to what we have and just voted Hull's player of the year.

13 May 2018 23:15:04
McGregor would be a great signing. Keep Alnwick for back up and sell Fod

14 May 2018 09:55:39
Sell alnwick and keep fod

14 May 2018 10:58:43
McGregor good enough to still make a difference, wouldn’t be going near Naismith

13 May 2018 22:14:55
Just watched the rossiter interview post match and he really wants to play for that shirt. I believe he will be our main man next season.

13 May 2018 23:15:56
There's no doubting his quality but can he stay fit?

14 May 2018 06:48:07
Looks the part but can his body stay fit.

14 May 2018 07:20:21
With the way he qas tackled yesterday he hasn't a hope of staying uninjured! !

14 May 2018 09:10:57
to be fair it was his first start in a very very long time and while i think Chris Sutton is a proper b3ll3nd i can't help but feel his comment during the game may be correct. did he ask JN and JJ to play him to see how he was. after the formation change i really thought he was one of our better players him and holt were doing well in the midfield and that tackle from scott allan was horrendous how the ref thought that wasnt a red i'll never know. give him a good pre-season use him as a sub for a few games and then he will be fine. i thought it was more the tackle that caused him to go off not his previous injuries.

13 May 2018 21:35:12
Another disappointing season over.

Looking forward, we've another new manager in, only this time with a step up in class. I'd like to think it won't be another rip it up and start again pre season and SG can get more out of some of these players.

My hope is for 4 or 5 quality signings right through the middle. Shagger and arfield good start, if true.

Then, it really comes down to thinning the squad of the non contributors of which there's easily 5-10 and get what we can for them.

Should be an interesting close season.

13 May 2018 19:05:09
So glad that season is over
A lot of failures in the season
The biggest problems for me was our choice in leadership in Pedro and Murty
We all wanted them to succeed but they ended up a shambles and the team fell apart.

The biggest disappointment for me is the shocking attempt at defending for most of the season.
It's mental to think that we have actually scored three more goals than the unwashed this season and ended up so far behind on points .

Sort the defence, bring in more quality and add to that leadership in Gerrard and Mcallister and next season could be good.

Ps I wonder how many unbelievables I will get from the freak show tims who are on here instead of celebrating winning a league.

13 May 2018 19:23:04
Rangers finished nearly 40 points behind Celtic last season, This season only 12 points behind them. i'm suprised Rangers have closed that gap so quickly if i'm honest. I do agree that the defence needs work tho.

13 May 2018 20:58:43
The smaller gap is due to Celtic getting less points than last season, not us getting more. It's weird how they started playing so well under Murty and then went down hill. Nichols post match interview almost in my opinion stated that stuff was going wrong behind the scenes

13 May 2018 21:40:55
we’ve hardly closed the gap at all

we have 3 more points than last season. fact

the massive decrease in the gap is not down to us

13 May 2018 23:15:30
Agreed happy it's over. That Martin is one of the worst defenders I've ever seen. Be interesting to see who Gerrard brings in. Hopefully goes about his business quickly and we can have a crack at the europa league.

14 May 2018 08:57:07
Yeah, that's twice now JN has alluded to them scratching their heads with players performances.

Something in training not transferring onto the pitch? Murty and Pedro both used to say they're flying in training, only for a sh! t performance at the weekend.

14 May 2018 09:40:52
Fraser, i'm a bluenose and hit unbelievable because you seem to obsess over that button! 😂😂

13 May 2018 18:59:41
I believe that we have very few players on our books that are certs to be playing for us next year.
I also believe that offers will be considered for nearly everyone. I do not believe that SG will accept players not up to the job. I also believe he will sort out the core first --- goalkeeper -- two centre backs -- defensive midfield --- attacking midfield and a centre forward.
I also feel he will play a 4-1-3-1-1, that could adapt to a 4-4-2 or 4-1-2-1-2, and he will be keen to sign players with pace, skill and a big heart, and most of all proud to be a Ger's player.
Looking forward to next season and possibly a reduction on my blood pressure tablets.

13 May 2018 19:23:42
I think a reduction on your championship manager hours might help you as well mate.

13 May 2018 20:25:10
Probably better, if you stick to what you know, Liam, and it certainly isn't football. Humour neither, so have a go at music.

13 May 2018 20:56:14
Absolutely hee haw wrong with GKs, however if we get McG on a free we could offload.

We need to lose everybdefender at club outside Tav, DJ and Wallace so for me you need three CHs.

Could lose upto 5-6 CMs so need to replace those with at least 2 top drawer first teamers with one a CAM and a couple squad bolsters.

We also need a couple strikers as for me anywhere near £6m and Morelos should be away

13 May 2018 22:56:38
Ulsgers, how can you say nothing is wrong with our goalkeepers mate? We have played 52 games in total this season between the league, cups and friendlies. We have let in 64 goals. an average of over a goal every single game. Yes our defence is crap but the goalkeepers we have are our last line of defence and just ain't good enough if we want to challenge for trophies bud.

13 May 2018 23:09:07
Same formation as us now with Liverpool u18s mate. I've been looking it up lol although he also likes 3 at the back and plays that a lot from what I can see

14 May 2018 10:21:37
every time I read 4-1-2-1-2 I read it in john barnes voice and remember how awful he and that formation was. so let's no bother eh!

13 May 2018 16:03:45
According to football insider rangers have apparently tabled a 4 million bid for Oli McBurnie

13 May 2018 16:20:43
Does anybody think he is worth taking a punt at that price.

13 May 2018 16:30:19
If we had McBurnie Cummings Morelos and Marriot I’d be happy with that strike force but ultimately it’s the defence we should be concentrating on first

13 May 2018 16:42:38
Is he not out of contract anyway

13 May 2018 16:49:15
I’m sure the article says he still has one year left in his current deal.

13 May 2018 18:17:42
Broxi17, are you for real? Have you seen Cummings and Morelos play this season? They like most of the team are deadwood Gerrard will get shot of! If our aim is to battle it out with Aberdeen and Hibs next season then yeah keep them!

13 May 2018 18:33:54
Morelos has been one of our better players this season his strength and link up play is excellent, granted he has missed a fair few sitters but he’s scored 18 goals in his first season without a pre season break and he’s still only 21, and with the right coaching he will only get better. As for Cummings he’s not really had a string of games to showcase what he can do and still managed 6 goals and I believe him and McBurnie could form a good partnership given their friendship.

13 May 2018 18:38:30
Listen bears season over and let's get this behind us can't wait till next season there will be many players wanting to play for Steven thay will all show him respect and play for him

13 May 2018 18:57:32
I agree with you Ronnie

13 May 2018 19:04:11
Some People seem to want to keep everyone still lol

13 May 2018 19:14:23
Final year of contract for relegated side who loaned Jim out? Not sure he would cost more than £2m but we won’t pay it unless we get a few quite for Alfredo

13 May 2018 19:50:08
I looked it up and he's out of contract I believe end of May. Development fee if anything I think. Let's get used to players being linked with us daily now until season starts.

13 May 2018 20:06:30
He is under contract with Swansea until June 2019

13 May 2018 20:14:29
I too think Morelos is a great prospect. grossley over criticised . confidence short plus I think Pena was his pal and he respected millar with those two out the picture he struggled for support

13 May 2018 20:31:06
Sorry I’m just not buying it, I have said for months that Morelos is guff and that team needs overhauled!

13 May 2018 20:57:15
Morelos can go for me

13 May 2018 21:50:51
I agree with Broxi17 😄

13 May 2018 23:00:28
Mcburnie out of contract according to transfermarket

13 May 2018 23:08:17
Mcburnie not worth 4 mil. Hopefully we keep Morelos and Cummings and get a powerful striker in there with them.

13 May 2018 23:12:37
Definitely not worth 4 mil

13 May 2018 23:16:45
He's out of contract in summer mate so don't know why we would pay 4m for him

14 May 2018 07:30:57
June 2019

13 May 2018 10:01:12
Jermaine Defoe is the latest former England Internationilst to be linked to Rangers. He signed a 3year contract last summer but for whatever reason it hasn't worked out with the cherries.
He's looked after himself throughout his career, it's well documented he became a Vegan to aid prolonging his career.
He is 1 of the best natural finishers of his generation and would likely be available on free transfer with affordable wages if he was prepared to take a cut to make it happen.
He's also been cut from 7/ 1 to 7/ 4 to sign which we all know isn't really a measure of probability but supports the rumour.
I think it's far more likely than a few like Torres we have been linked with due to affordability and availability and for me he's much better than Torres these days.

13 May 2018 10:43:03
No place for vegans.

13 May 2018 10:53:47
Let's get a result today lads

13 May 2018 11:16:02
Spot on Marco, carnivores only!

13 May 2018 11:22:36
I never knew he was vegan.

13 May 2018 11:48:42
Vegan **** a thought he was church of England oh deer

13 May 2018 11:49:05
Have a steak and chill out Jermaine

13 May 2018 11:51:14
Dafoe, to old we or SG needs to build a young team Hutton, Adam, Naismith, Davis way old.

13 May 2018 23:04:33
I was never much of a star trek fan but if he wants to be a vulcan then that's fine by me.

14 May 2018 01:40:22
Thot he was on over 100k a week .

13 May 2018 00:09:59
There is no way Gerrard should even be considered as a player manager that's just ludicrous thinking! I am really looking forward to seeing him in action. I'm really confident that he will bring success back to our club. Can't wait to see his signings.

13 May 2018 09:03:33
