Scottish Football League to call a meeting of all its members in order to talk reconstruction. One idea being mooted is to have three divisions of sixteen made up of current members and invited teams from the current SPL and the peripheral leagues throughout Scotland.

Believable25 Unbelievable47

Dont think the SPL will be in favour of this.

Agree0 Disagree1

The SPL is a different organisation. You might find that the Guild of Ice Cream van Operators doesnt agree with this either...

Agree1 Disagree0

I don't believe the SFL will propose any plan which invades SPL territory.

But I do think the SPL should be demised.

Agree1 Disagree1

The spl chairman (who are all for sporting integrity and giving the fans what they want) wont go for this (for sporting integrity reasons of course and nothing to do with them not wanting to split the tv cash 16 ways instead of 10 despite fans wanting reconstruction for years)
the official reason i believe they wont go for this will be, its far to sensible!
id love to there to watch the spl try and come up with a fixture list for 16 teams, they struggle with 10! it would be like watching a monkey with a deck chair!
the tiger! beyond reproach!

Agree2 Disagree0

The fixture list isn't a problem - there's a computer program which does it. As usual, The Tiger is beyond sense.

Agree0 Disagree2

Is it not 12 teams in spl ?

Agree0 Disagree0

The SPL fixture list is a problem. The split is a joke. To not play every team home and away an even amount of times is a joke.

Agree0 Disagree0

Wow, is that the same computer that let rangers sign a player after the deadline? Yeah some great computer that is lol {Ed039's Note - Do your homework, Rangers registered the player before the deadline, it was international clearance that came after the deadline, which is well within the rules)

Agree1 Disagree1

3 divisions of 16 teams each? That's 48 teams - we can barely support the 42 we currently have - this is not a rumour it's fantasy

Agree0 Disagree0

Do the math, lads.... this would mean only the winner of Div 3 would move up. 2nd place would stay in the lowest Div.

Colin

Agree0 Disagree0

At the end of the day i would take the spl anyday we are going back someday fellow bears

Agree0 Disagree0

No Ed, there was no international clearance required for Templeton! But what's 5 minutes between friends ;-) {Ed001's Note - there was clearance required, they still have to clear a change of LEAGUE with the relevant authorities. Moving between SPL clubs, no need for it, the SPL can deal with it, but moving into the SFL or from the SFL to the SPL requires extra paperwork and clearances.}

Agree0 Disagree1

The NFL us pretty successful and they don't use the old home and away thingy. I believe another country is looking at the spl split. For a small country the spl is fine. The idea is to cut out meaningless games, you guys will be seeing a lot of them.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well why not go for an NRL or AFL type scenario they have in the football codes in Australia? Where after the home and away season is finished the team that finishes top is the minor premier, then the top 8 teams play off in qualifying finals and elimination finals, then building up to a grand final! Keep the top team's fans interested as there is a chance of winning a final irrespective of where you finished in the top 8 teams! Finals have started in oz and first game of the finals attracted 90000 people! Why not try something new? Instead of going for the usual boring split!

Agree0 Disagree0

The idea of the split wasn't to cut out meaningless games it was to make sure Rangers and Celtic played each other 4 times yet sustaining a league of 12 teams (but more than 33 and ess than 44 matches).

Remember the SPL was set up to exploit TV money, but neither that money nor the company providing it nor one of the two teams generating the retuns exists any more. (kind of).
