I am not sure about the lengths of some of these players contracts but for me the way forward would be to get rid of some of these guys on ridiculous wages for the division they are playing in. Then youth is the key scouting young talent from lower league england and from abroad and building a side that can not only win promotion but gain experience and grow into better players while doing it. As much as it pains me to say it Celtic have a good set-up and I think Rangers could do a lot worse than think about going down that route. Easier said than done of course and it would take time but it would be a healthier way to run the club and could turn up some gems that could get either sold on for healthy profit or kept so that we once again become the force that we once were.

Thoughts and opinions please people.

P. S. Sorry about the length of that post Ed lol.

I can only agree with you bigbear. Green must know that the only way is to buy cheap with potential and sell on in a few years for profit. Eventually we would have experienced players alongside youth and a few players who would be rolling stock for profit. It would take a lot of organising but would be worth it. We would also need good scouts and unfortunately a good manager who can bring the potential to the forefront. I suspect, but not entirely sure, ally would find it out of his reach.

Agree0 Disagree1

It's no problem with wasting money cause don't you know that your going to make 100mill a year? That means making money more then some epl and Europe clubs even though your are not in a top division league and even though an spl club has never made close to that. You sure are lucky t have have a owner who is losing 1mill a year and turn it to 100 mill.

Agree1 Disagree1

I saw a program on tv Saturday football a few weeks back. It was about a small south cost team (name escapes me). They were basically training on smaller and smaller pitches with more and more players until the guys could control a ball and keep it with 4 players on them. I am told this is the Barcelona method. Apparently the humped Aston Villa in an under 16s game, played on a smallish pitch. Villas answer was to complain to the authorities.

My point is why can't we do the same. It would not take long it just needs time and effort from the coaching staff.

Our youngsters are no different to any other countries. WE CAN DO IT.

Instead of going abroad and hiring 3rd rate pros, why not entice some of the top youth coaches on 5 year contracts. We need to stop being negative with regards our skill levels and strat teaching the young.

Vic the Hun {The Ed039's Note - Its a very popular training method in Spain, ticcy-taccy football it has been dubbed by many, they get 16-20 boys on a 5-a-side pitch and play keep ball. They regard that more important than shooting at goal or going on long mazy dribbles)

Agree0 Disagree2

Better that we get rid of the Management team and see what a proper coach could do with some of these players. It is only since they arrived at Rangers that they are looking like they have never kicked a ball. What is more worrying is that Ally is likely to sign more players recommended to him by Neil Murray. His track record as a scout is worse than his record as a player and he was one of the worst I have seen in my fifty years of watching Rangers.

Agree3 Disagree1

When I said youth was key, nurturing the players in the youth teams was included in that. When I mentioned bringing in guys from lower league England and abroad I was meaning bringing in young players that would straight away fit into the squad, hopefully they turn into far better players that we could either sell on for profit or keep a hold of to drive the team. The main goal though would to become as you said a self sufficient team that produces its own top notch players. Borussia Dortmund are one of the ideal models of this right now.

BigBear {The Ed039's Note - German teams as a whole and the Bundesliga are what most countries need to strive for. The majority of the teams are financially sound and technically good on the pitch at the same time which is a rarity)

Agree0 Disagree0

To be honest there is no money in scottish football just now the way ahead is bringing on younger players with a mixture of experienced players a new coaching strategy and a total overhaul of the leagues a top division of 18 teams at least this would give all teams something to play for and help out smaller clubs too

Agree0 Disagree0

Our football is in a bad way in scotland look at germany maybe 4 or 5 clubs have a chance of winning their league they are stronger skillfull what have we got big punts up the park 100 mile an hour running aboot like headless chickens with no skill and only one team that can win the league year in and year oot its a poor product to be honest all the clubs should get together put their differences aside and start getting serious about the future of the game in scotland

Agree0 Disagree0

I have said it before we need at least 8 strong teams in scotland rangers celtic hibs hearts dundee dundee utd inverness caley motherwell and saint mirren with strong football academy's set up to bring the game on plus a bigger league in this way smaller teams playing these ten would come on stronger no disrepect to smaller clubs a 18 team league set up playing 34 games would generate income fairly and bring more fans from the so called smaller clubs any ideas ed?

Green wants laudrup, I said it here at the beginning of the season and I know this to be fact! McCoist will win the 3rd div title then go.

Believable37 Unbelievable59

But what Laudrup? I would not see Michael being interested and Brian is another untried coach.

Agree0 Disagree1

Cant do any worse than the coaches we have just know

Agree0 Disagree1

I am sure Brian Laudrup has said he is not interested in being a manager, however saying that and getting offered the job are two different things.

Agree0 Disagree1

Is it just me we are on our way to win div 3 championship ok we have had a few bad results its not been perfect sometimes but you can't sack a manager that wins the league I wish some fans would back ally more we knew it wouldn't be easy under the circumstances all this new manager talk isn't helping ally in anyway

Agree0 Disagree4

Ally makes it more and more difficult to continue to endorse and support him.

Agree1 Disagree0

Yes its Brian not Michael and it makes sense globally marketing wise and perhaps he could attract a better breed of younger player and have them playing in an attractive style, the long ball rubbish must stop! Personally i'd give it to Derek Adams and let him build a team up through the divisions, however, I can see the appeal of Butcher.

Agree0 Disagree2

Coistys got to go he's never a manager

Agree0 Disagree1

To be fair guys mcoist has had a team of kids and this talk of him going is not fair on the kids and isn't fair on coisty last year if you remember he was the only positive by standing as a man fought for our corner when he could have walked away.
we need to back him for next year then judge not now

Agree0 Disagree1

To the reply to giving managers job to derek adams go for it seems to be able to produce things in a player that Ally cant. get his dad back down in charge of the youth set-up aswell,

Mark Hately writes the great Rangers teams of the past had solid spines in the centre back, centre midfiled and centre forward positions. McCoist's selection and his alone is to give these vital positions to Cribari, Black and McCulloch, the rest of the team then selected around them.

Andy Little has to play out of position despite coming into real form to make way for McCulloch and Black walks back straight into the team after each and every suspension he picks up. Plenty of fans post on this site the same basic theme as I am here but McCoist obviously knows better and as the manager and selector he has to hold up his hand and take responsibility for his choice of team, not blame the players for letting him down. He's the one letting us all down with his dogmatic stance on these three as the first on his team sheet.

Believable40 Unbelievable15

When did Hateley learn to write, is that the great Rangers team where some of them should never have been on the park or am I just being paranoid.

Agree2 Disagree4

To be fair to big jig he's lead by example for rangers he would be my first selection in the team every week

Agree0 Disagree1

That would be arguably the 3 most experienced players in the squad as your spine, kinda makes sense to me

Little has pace, we've not got a lot of that at the moment, again kinda makes sense to put him on the wing, McKay is still learning, rapid but his final ball is terrible

I keep seeing all these posts moaning about team selection but there's 2 out of that 3 with major European experience, I'd have some of that in a team before I'd have a full squad of untested, inexperienced 18 year olds

We're winning the league at an absolute canter, with a squad flung together at the last minute and propped up with teenagers

We were never, ever, going to win every game, anyone with a modicum of sense would have realised that, and yes we've been playing some god awful football but christ almighty under the circumstances we're going to end the season with the only trophy that really matters

Agree0 Disagree0

It's only third division which we have realisticly won already so keep calm.
Worry about the board not the footnball.

I think it would be very sad if mccoist either got the boot or resigned at this moment. He isn't the best, fair enough but he atleast deserves to lift D3 cup (if we manage it). He had a hard time of it before the season even started so allow him to lift the trophy then let him go with dignity.

Don

Believable46 Unbelievable32

And you think winning the Division three affords him dignity? I'm afraid that ship sailed with some of the results and most of the performances.

Agree4 Disagree2

He will still be there until the end of next season then will go

Agree0 Disagree0

Ally has had a hard time? what about us? we have to endure the torture of watching the crap that he is dishing up to us. I hope we have a new manager in soon. for the first time ever I am contemplating not renewing my season ticket. I know the club needs our backing but I can't take much more of this. this is supposed to be entertainment but it feels like a punishment. we have done our bit as fans but now it is up to the board to give us something to cheer about - unfortunately ally is incapable of delivering the goods.

Agree0 Disagree1

As a celtic fan on the outside looking in in I think ally should be allowed to finish the season and then perhaps he can leave with a little dignity yoy guys should remember how many times he broke our hearts and how many highs he gave you.

Agree2 Disagree1

I wish some people would give ally a break we are all in it together remember ally has held us together and the club through dark times let's give the man some backing and we are top of the league

Agree0 Disagree0

Ally had a hard time are you having a laugh mate, try being physically assaulted in front of millions watching on tv and being sent letter bombs to your home that's having a hard time in my eyes, get a life pal and stop feeling sorry for yourself/manager/team.

Agree1 Disagree2

Dignity you have to be joking, we are rubbish with the 2nd highest wage bill in the country, youth name 2 would be in our team 2 years ago, greenbeams £100m income when we are back in the top div come on only 6 teams in world football do that and a mssive % of it from TV-move ally upstairs and get big tel in, he won't need mr green £10m (each year green words) to get us back to the top of the pile {The Ed039's Note - Where is everyone getting that only 6 teams in the world have £100m of income? The top 20 teams as published by Deloitte have over £100m of income)

Agree1 Disagree0

I highly doubt millions of fans were watching hearts v celtic midweek lmao

Agree0 Disagree1

2 the 4rth reply. take a bow mate. not often u see celtic fans bein honest. and 2 the original post - he deserves 1 title at least. AND 2 the Negative crew - does Follow Follow mean anythin 2 u. F*****g GLORY HUNTERS. WDDWA! thru thick and thin we shall follow!

Agree0 Disagree1

" I highly doubt millions were watching Hearts v Celtic midweek. It will be a very long time before Rangers play Hearts again" LMAO

just a point to the many who say Tel Butcher is next manager, i'd much prefer B Davies, as we missed a wonderful chance there, nut Tel would be an improvement surely, however having read his autobiography, his wife begged him to leave the goldfish bowl and hatred of the old firm when he was a player, just a thought, but the ginger one from the east doesn't exactly show that hatred has dissipated in any way? would big Tel wanna come back?

Believable13 Unbelievable26

The Lennon obsession again! What has Lennon got to do with who you appoint as manager?

Agree2 Disagree0

Just go back 2 weeks at Berwick with your hatred quote, your statement yet again is to blame everyone else for an owner and a manager who need each other to survive, therein lies your problem, nothing to do with anyone from the East.

Agree2 Disagree0

The ginger one from the east. He would be the man sent bullets and bombs, run off a motorway with a child in the car at high speed, dragged out the car at traffic lights and beaten up, followed home from a night out and beaten unconcious, had his walls daubed by death threats, had death threats phoned in for playing for HIS country, been advised there is a serious threat to his life, and I am sure I have missed a few and if I am right you are suggesting he might be sectarian. What team did the perpretraters of these crimes support. I am sure like most fans of any club including your own they are disgusted by these acts and people like yourself who then turn it around to blame the wee ginger one

Agree4 Disagree0

To the above post well said my friend, and to the original post start thinking for yourself mate and not the bile that you have been steeped since you were probably a youngster.
My dad was Catholic and my mum Protestant, no sectarianism, bigotry ever allowed in my family mate.

Craig Gordon in goals next year get him in training the now 4 new season

Believable14 Unbelievable49

Over priced, over rated and never fit. Let's give him a 3 year deal!

Agree3 Disagree0

Won't sign him because he won't get insurance. His old man knows my dad and says nobody will touch him {The Ed039's Note - He has already come out and said that if he plays on anywhere, he will need to play on with pain. He is actively looking into moving into coaching and is helping out at Dumbarton. I dont think we will see him play again to be honest, if he does, he will need adequate cover because he wont be able to consistently play twice a week over a significant period of time)
