I remember the game. Ibrox was being used for the cup final on the Sunday which Celtic lost to Raith Rovers.

First game was v Dundee, end of 84/ 85 season and we got beat 3-1 at Ibrox. Went the following week to game v Aberdeen and we got beat 2-1. 2 weeks later went to hearts match and we won 3-1. Of those 3 games the only goal I remember is Davie Cooper hitting one from 25 yards into top corner past Henry Smith. Never found tv footage of it. Different times, crowds were something like 9,000 at Ibrox for these games.

I remember Jock Wallace was the manager with Peter Mcloy in goals John McClelland, Ally Dawson, Bobby Williamson Super Cooper. Early 1980s I think John McClelland was the captain.

Sounds like you're a similar vintage to me Cooper. Back in those days, Dundee was a bit of a bogey team for us with a certain John Brown dominating a lot of the games. Mind you, back then Rangers didn't often appear in the top section of the league table. I recall us struggling in a lot of games and then we were after Alex Ferguson - and later Jim McLean - to be our manager. We ultimately got Jock Wallace, whom I had never heard of at that time as his previous stint as manager was before my time. It's all a bit hazy and I'm sure time will have altered a lot of the memories but that's what my early memoriea are.

My first game at Ibrox was against Ajax in the early/ mid 80s when I was 8 or 9 and I recall Rangers winning by a few goals.

One of my earliest memories the gers was the 1982 Scottish cup final against the sheep . Terrible result we lost 4-1 after extra time . I remember standing outside at possibly 1.30 and it was really quiet . We paid at the gate i'm sure £4 to get in . The stadium was nowhere near full changed days .

Similar to me Three cheers. I remember being disappointed when Sandy Clark moved to Hearts. I never have been much good at picking a player, but I actually thought big Sandy was decent.

Uncle took me to Gers v Airdrie. Must be around 1963. Maybe Richie shearer brand. McKinnon. Baxter. I think. Mother wanted me to be smart for uncle John and looked out my school blazer. Green and gold piping . oh no. I was around 9/ 10 years old and I'm 68 noo. Team and uncle John all gone now.

Yeah blue, after posting I had a look at the results back in the 83-86 seasons. We certainly did struggle against Dundee a lot! John brown, great great player. How he didn’t end up with 30-40scotland caps?!?!

Irvger, what a first game. Would have loved to have seen Jim Baxter play in the flesh.

One of my earliest memories was League Cup final v Morton 1963. The Rangers won 5_0 at Hampden with over 100,000 in attendance.
Jim Forrest scored 4 and Alex Willoughby (Jim's cousin) scored the other 1.
Manager was Mr Scot Symon. Some great names in The Rangers team that day. Ritchie, Shearer, Greig, McKinnon, Henderson, Brand and the one and only Jim Baxter. (My no1 of all time)

Not my earliest memory but best.
My mum knew waddle and his wife very well.

Remember visiting his home in west end Glasgow, seeing his caps, medals hearing the stories.

Then as a 15 year old being taken to ibrox for a game, in centre stand as a guest of Mr Waddell. People thought I was a new kid signing lol. I was honestly treated like royalty and still have the program signed by mr waddle.

My love for Rangers was confirmed for ever.

My first game was away to St johnstone at they're old ground with the wooden benches, but my 2nd game was league/ skol Cup final against celtic 3-2 when mccoist got a hatrick. My dad managed to get 3 tickets for the celtic end which we swapped for 2 tickets for the good end when we got to the stadium ?.

Lithium, what a great thread you've started here. I love reading about different people's memories and some of the great experiences some of us have had.

Coop, yeah I really don't understand how Bomber didn't get multiple caps. He was so versatile and whilst he played mainly at CH for us, I think he was an attacking midfielder for Dundee; he definitely scored a good few goals there.
