Hi team been reading up on current rumours and paper speculation, let me first start by saying I do not know the true financial situation of rangers nor do I "know" anybody in the know or indeed their long lost Aunty or her dog. however,
We as a club are still recovering from our time in the lower divs and are continuing to haemorrhage money at quite an alarming rate, yes we had a significant income from Europe, but is that enough to cover our expenses and give a substantial sum to allow significant strengthening to the squad?
I am imo being realistic given the massive constraints that's is the SPL, financially we are unable to compete with EPL and are closer to danish league in terms of potential income. We can have as many sponsors as we want in the stadium or on out jersey but until we can, and by we I mean the whole SPL, can sell ourselves to the big players then we will continue to lurch from season to season adding the odd player here and there.
If we are lucky enough to make it past the qualifying rounds and get into the CL and have a reasonable run this could allow some transfer funds but until the SPL can attract significant financial input we will struggle, winning the SPL is akin to finishing 20th in the EPL, we are a back water league with a potential to be massive, how many other cities can boast a fan base of over 100,000 season ticket holders, it's frustrating to watch Scottish football continue to slowly die with only Rangers and the other mob competing and making any type of impact in Europe (albeit the other mob do drag us down as a nation)

Hemorrhaging money? As in what running costs? The finances last year showed that with the return of gate money and hospitality alone we would turn a profit! But now we can add the europa league run to the final, making a profit from anywhere between 35 to 50 million depending on what sources you want to believe? Then you add The money for Patterson and our old backroom staff! We have a player worth a minimum of 20 million with a lot of interest in him, Barisic is supposedly also attracting interest at 4 Million, my own opinion is Kamara will be sold? I think we're finally back to the level we been battling for for over a decade!

Good post kiwi, we will always be a backwater league.
According to Robertson we made more money from EL than had we qualified for CL.
If we can become at least a EL quarterfinals team we r doing excellent.

@John Robertson is full of sh*t. We made good money from UEL run (around £25-£30M) but it didn't match qualification for UCL rewards £40M+)

Hi Barrow by Hemorrhaging I was not being critical of the running of the club its simple mathematics, yes we have made a significant amount of money from the EL but to move forward we need to invest and without significant guarantees of ongoing millions in income we will indeed Haemorrhage money by the need to invest in quality players to allow us to progress, unfortunately I can’t see any real ways this would improve as we as SPL have been undersold for many years and will continue to do so.

There's absolutely no way we made anywhere near 50 million in the Europa league run. There's going be millions come off that in expenditures, player bonuses etc. I'd be shocked if it was over 25 million which will help run the club for a season or two. We need too sell players to get money for transfers. Kiwiger very sensible posts.

17.5 million in prize money and bonuses before you count gate money and hospitality on 9 home games in Europe! Anybody care to calculate how much we made in them games? Certainly well over 1 million per game. Also 23.5 million was our actual end of accounts debt sorry for the wrong figure.

Nope I'm not I'm saying the money we made from the Europa league will help us run as a club for 2 seasons max Barrowlad. A few seasons back when king came in our ling term plan was too buy younger players and sell for a profit. Apart from Patterson we have basically sold nobody for any decent profit. We have 3 of our most valuable players with 12 months or less that are now on the verge of going on the cheap or going for free next season which has completely went away from the business plan we set out a few seasons ago. If Bassey doesn't sign new deal the correct ring too sell him is now and not after next season. We are giving older players contracts who if we had the money too replace them wouldn't be at the club this coming season. Rangers are at a complete standstill at the minute; this isn't being negative its being truthful.

John, what's your views mate on the 1 year extension handed out, my own view is that we should be reducing the age level in the squad which I feel will take us forward quicker, too much sentiment being shown, of the 3 players, I feel that Arfield was the correct one to keep.

I am with John on this Champions League £40m, I don't believe that the baseline is anywhere close to this.
While there are a number of Companies where I will go through their Annual Accounts with a fine tooth comb, Rangers is not one of them, perhaps next year!
As for Scottish Football it is never going to be any different than it is, certainly not in my lifetime. It needs a fundamental restructure, top to bottom. In my opinion it needs fewer Teams with Teams merging to be stronger and there is too much self interest for that to happen.
We also need to revisit the League Structure, the number of teams in each Division and the SFA / SPFL Models.
For example, giving Brechin City the same voting rights as Rangers, Celtic, Hearts and Hibs etc., might be the Democratic way of doing things but we are not a Cooperative and for me, Control of Scottish Football needs to change. If Rangers and Celtic can generate more investment and more sponsorship than the SPFL why is this and it is not just down to the Incompetent CEO that runs the SPFL!

Paul your maths is wrong mate 9 home games 50k supporters paying average £45 just for a TICKET alone makes £23,490,000 but you have to factor hospitality sponsership tv money and the prize money was also mire than 17m u quote . as yet nobody knows the income from just Saville merch made . around 100k fans went over all wearing rangers store bought merchandise I can vet that made around 10m alone . always so negative r u and sweep about our beloved club. without over speculation from your 40m u quote is already 15m more . why not wait and see what happens during July when things happen properly. u worri3d cause they lot have bought a loan player from last season . a 2nd keeper and some player nobody's heard off and about to sign another loan from last season and attempting to loan more players? I don’t disagree with your comment John, I’m not sure all of the kids you’ve highlight will be part of a championship winning team within 2 year, not without adding 4 or 5 genuine first team players. I’m happy to be proven wrong and I think you’ll agree I’ve been calling out for younger players to have a chance. I just want a balanced approach to transfers, I’m not seeing that just now (just my opinion)

Dado nor am I. However, two or three will, on or two part off it, I’m not naive enough to think they will all have 45 game season.
But this part off club is certainly improving with more to join in, dado we genuinely have a conveyor belt in progress.
If we bought through say five lads playing say 30 games a season we would take that.
If we get likes of Lovelace cooper McLeod Reid Simpson it only gets better.

I will have a look at your FFP comment, it's actually been a concern I've also had, yes, we need to be more prudent with our money, but we do. I agree, need 2 or 3 new players to start in the 1st team, and improve things, thank you again mate.

John, I like what you are saying and have confidence in what you say regarding the majority of our youngsters that you mention. I would however suggest that there is an immediate need for a quality right winger and a goalkeeper together with an older striker, (late 20's), that provides cover for Morelos or gives GVB an alternative, possibly of two upfront or of an out and out Target Man.
We certainly do appear to be bringing in quality youngsters. It is the other players signed in the last couple of windows that worry me. So far only Lundstram, from the established players that we have signed looks like a first 11 player. Hopefully that will change this window.
