Rip Davie cooper, 26 years ago today. I remember it like it was yesterday. We were preparing to go on a 6 month tour of Belfast and the news came to us. Seasoned soldiers and some real hard nuts sitting with tears in their eyes. No player in my opinion has ever brought such joy onto the pitch at Ibrox. To this day he is my all time favourite player and I don't think we will ever see the likes again in style of play and in service to our club. Coops could have played in any team in the world but to him there was no bigger team than Glasgow rangers. Take people like Barry Ferguson who a lot on here really rate but he left to go to Blackburn rovers. Think about it there is no comparison between us and Blackburn rovers and definitely none between him and Davie cooper. One is a legend of world football the other a bawheed that cared more about himself than the club.

Livibear - I've got to say mate, I agree with every single word you've said. Well done sir.

23 Mar 2021 13:50:07
Very harsh o another club legend mate, but that's yiur opinion and i'm sure you've earned it, I love barry as a great captain, I think you should know the whole story of him leaving, anyway I was at a dealership buying a have unit with a mate when we heard the news on radio it started with his collapse and got worse, truly heartbreaking,

23 Mar 2021 13:53:38
The late great super cooper gone but will never be forgotten! You're correct Livibear, coop could have played for any club, in any league in world football, such was his god given, natural talent 👌A very special person and a very special footballer, who i like all bears miss so very much 😞He was one of a kind
'IT'S A KIND OF MAGIC, THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE'🎵🎶👍 One of my heroes was coop 👌🇬🇧 God rest his soul 🙏.

Tom Barry wasn't even the best Ferguson to play for rangers that goes to the great man with 9 league medals in a row.

23 Mar 2021 14:13:44
Remember it well I was in high-school at the time, he was doing a football thing in my home town in cumbernauld at Broadwood stadium.

23 Mar 2021 14:19:39
Have too agree with Tom. No real need to denigrate a former player in a tribute to a true legend of the game.

23 Mar 2021 15:08:51
Sorry Livibear i disagree with you regarding barry ferguson mate 🤔 As much as i rated and liked ian ferguson, baz for me was a better midfielder than him! I've said before and i'll state it again, barry ferguson IMO, was the best midfielder to come out of scotland, easily in the last 25 years. Baz carried rangers himself at times 👌 Terrific midfielder, terrific captain for me!

23 Mar 2021 15:36:55
Why on earth use a brilliantly put tribute to Davie Cooper to also have a go at Barry Ferguson. They played in different eras and Fergie had a chance to broaden his horizons, develop his game, and make a lot of money. As it happens he realised that the grass wasn't greener elsewhere and returned for a good second spell with us. He was a brilliant Rangers player. Yes, not the genius of Cooper but still a Rangers great. How Cooper would have loved to have played with a player of Fergie's calibre in his early Rangers days.

23 Mar 2021 15:43:24
What would Davie Cooper be worth in today's crazy transfer market? The man was a genius. I also believe that Barry Ferguson was a world-class midfielder who wasn't given the credit he deserved. Oh, to see their likes again!

23 Mar 2021 15:56:46
Your talking no nsenow livi

Barry was widely regarded as the best player to come out of Scotland since dalglish, Ian, as great as he was, was never even in the same district as Barry in playing terms, Both were great leaders of men, but Barry captained a Rangers team chock full of international players as a young boy, and had European clubs purring at his composure and brilliance, Fergie the first never got close to that and would be the very first to admit he never could, don’t know how you could believe otherwise mate.

23 Mar 2021 16:03:26
And the closest Ferguson to Barry was his big brother, neither Ian’s could get close, although I appreciate your love of coop, and of fergie, Barry was and remains a Rangers legend too.

23 Mar 2021 16:25:56
Ian Ferguson better than Barry? Nah!
Your post started off so well mate, then fell on its arse.
Davie Cooper you were a footballing genius, and we will never forget you!

23 Mar 2021 16:38:37
Absolute massive fan off Ian Ferguson, however not as good as Barry imo.

23 Mar 2021 17:29:27
Livibear did Barry Ferguson sleep with your mother. He went to try and better his career and to prove himself against better opposition or doesn’t that count with you.

23 Mar 2021 17:54:32
More to it than that Robbieg69!
Rangers needed the £7.8million that blackburn rovers had agreed to pay for baz, badly mate. There was politics at play behind the scenes.

23 Mar 2021 18:18:07
Livi bear 😂😂😂😂barry ferg was a far superior footballer to ian ferguson.

23 Mar 2021 19:35:17
Oh dear, oh dear - Barry Ferguson, the best midfielder to come out of Scotland, what a load of nonsense. He's certainly 1 of the big headed, arrogant midfielders to come out of Scotland though.

23 Mar 2021 20:16:40
Ok BIGIKS, let's have the names of the scottish midfielders, who you say were better than baz, over the last 25 years 🤔.

23 Mar 2021 20:22:56
Barry Ferguson was a fantastic player, and captain for Rangers, and the fact that he was arrogant and big headed, has no bearing whatsoever on how good he was.
I'm going tell you a wee story about Barry. When he was playing for Mill United he was playing against Bellshill boys club. During the game, a boy from Bellshill was ripping the single fish out of Barry and turned him inside out, to the point that Barry walked off the park during the game in tears only to be met by a volley of abuse by his older brother, Derek. Derek left him without a name and forced him back on and wasn't having him walk off. To say Derek was raging would be an understatement. If anyone remembers Barry at Mill United, they'll remember that Derek went to most of his games when he played in Scotland. Tough love certainly paid off for him big time. True story.

24 Mar 2021 01:15:43
wow a lot of personal for an opinion. too funny!

24 Mar 2021 16:52:59
I’m taking it you are a better authority on midfield players than Walter Smith, dick advocates and a mountain of professional football players then bigik, if you don’t know how good Barry was you are either too young to understand, or have an unhealthy hatred of certain Rangers players, strange how I have Celt supporting drivers and pals who all know how good he was.

25 Mar 2021 00:06:27
I remember Barry opting for Blackburn when we didn’t get to champions league and going through a hard time . I also remember him coming back when we qualified a few seasons later, and were back on the up .
