What's everyone's thoughts on replacing tav till end of season if need be I would be happy with leon balogun till the end of the season as a RB.

I like the way stevie G uses helander and balogun, both of them are very different centre halfs, I'd be totally confident in balogun at right back as he is fast, strong in the tackle and very athletic, if we play him at right back it might leave us light in central defence but surely we'll manage with what we have.

Only issue is that we are short at CB if we lose Helander or Goldson.
If we bring the naughty boys Bassey and Paterson back quickly (assuming no bans) we will be ok but I'd be concerned if we had no LB, RB or CB cover other than a midfielder.

The patterson is unbelievably frustrating eh?
I personally think i'd rather see jack at rb as think he would maybe offer a bit more going forward and the way we play relies around full backs being able to do that.
I don't think balogun can offer that.
When i seen balogun come on at rb first 5 mins i thought they were going to target him and he would get murdered however he ended up being steady in there.
Think we should only bring someone if they are happy with a short term deal and are of good enough quality to impact the team.
Seen something in online media suggesting we could look at Rafinha who has been released by Olympiakos (Ex Bayern) however i'm sure if we signed someone from abroad an isolation period would occur so maybe doesn't make much sense.
My initial thoughts are i'd be surprised if we bring anyone in. This weekend we are at home in a game i expect us to dominate the ball, maybe it could be a good opertunity to experiment with someone at different at right back. Alternativly can young Leon King play there?

We also have the lad Simpson that we signed that we can deploy at centre back and I might have read somewhere that he can play full back as well. It is always a risk. at this time of the season to bring in Bosmans since in the main they won't have played, (or possibly trained), since the end of last season. That said, I believe that there are a couple of players whose contracts ended in January. That might be an option if Gerrard felt we needed reinforcements. In some respects I am more concerned about Roofe's injury because I think we have enough potential cover for Tav so long as we don't get any other defensive injuries but if Roofe injury is a long term problem and with DeFoe now struggling with injuries we only have Morelos, (I don't rate Itten) . Is Costa still available on a Bosman?

Gerrard has already stated he doesn’t want to use Jack at right back, partly because of what he’ll lose from the midfield and partly due to already having to manage him carefully due to his ongoing injury issue. I know Balogun ‘can’ play there but really to me it’s a bit of a square peg round hole solution. Our entire game is based around our attacking full backs on both sides, evidenced by the number of goals and assists both have provided over the season. Playing Balogun there completely removes that from one side of the pitch. Although he did ok there he didn’t put in one cross all game when he came on (not his fault, it’s not his natural game) . We should have enough to get away with playing him there in most spfl games but for the old firms, the European games and Scottish cup (if it’s played) I think we need better. Patterson has been trained and coached to play in the exact way Tav does and although a lot less experienced would of been the ideal replacement, however I can’t see him being available again this season either due to an SFA ban or an internal ban, he really has screwed himself (and us) majorly there! If it does turn out that Tav is out a long time (and if it is medial ligament damage it’s likely he will be) then I can see us possibly bringing in a free agent for the rest of the season. Problem there is they wouldn’t be able to play in Europe so let’s just cross our fingers Tav makes a miracle recovery!
