Morning Bears. I am saddened by the demise of the Scotland national team over the last two or three decades. Only Robertson is international class in my opinion and McGinn is OK. Tierney is overrated and Jack performed alright the other night. How Forrest, McGregor and Christie get into the national team I don't know, Dykes too. Gone are the days when you could reel off names like Hansen, Dalglish, Souness, Bremner, Jordan, McQueen, Johnson, Law. the list goes on. Clarke is a useless manager at this level. Sadder thing is that there are no true Scottish international class players at Rangers just now other than Alan McGregor.

Agree4 Disagree0

I watched the Jim Baxter documentary on Alba the other night. For sheer entertainment it must have been great to watch players like Baxter, Grieg and Willie Henderson playing at their peak. Baxter and Henderson even being selected for a Best of the World team for Stanley Matthew's testimonial.

I am a big Scotland fan so I will add my tuppence worth with an honest opinion.
Roberston I agree about. I also think Tierney is very good and should also be in the team. Forrest McGregor and Christie are also good players and key players for the current SPL champions so I don’t think you can argue much there. Maybe Jack ahead of Forrest but both completely different types of players.
Again I agree Clarke is useless who I think should never have been appointed. He has ZERO personality and I think you can see that in the way we play. Scotland now are a team that set up not to get pumped and will look to snatch something.
Even Allan McGregor I don’t think is international class, I’m starting to think McLauchlin could be our number 1. (Club and country) he’s excellent with the ball at his feet and there is no fuss and a calmness to his game.

Like a broken record but our grass roots is a shambles, with plastic pitches. I’m involved with junior football and (very limited) under 10s and 12s. The current coaching methods in my opinion are to technical for kids. I hear guys go on about shape and transition etc.

Whatever happened to letting boys “kick the baw about”? Even when I was younger that’s all I did, I also feel there is an argument for the PlayStation generation not getting out as much as when I was younger. That’s why we won’t ever get back to producing players like you mentioned on your post.

I tend to agree with Blackthorn. As much as i hate to say it, we should be playing the Celtic boys. I said a few years ago when they were wiping the floor with teams that we should be playing them all. OK atm that can be argued now. Personally I think Jack and McGregor will be our holding CMs, n mcginn in front of them. Him n Christie will share duties. Now I think KT is a good defender but we shouldn't be changing our shape to shoehorn players in. The big lad from Motherwell should be playing, Liam cooper as well. Why we dropped a CM into defence is beyond me. Our curre t club goalkeeper should be starting for Scotland.
We do have the players to win games and get us to a major tournament if they all perform to their true abilities.
For the record, i wanted Scott gemmel as manager, a young guy who's been doing the trick with the understand, fresh ideas etc.

06 Sep 2020 13:50:05
Doiger the fact you are saying KT is overrated shows your lack of knowledge of football it really does it’s embarrassing.

06 Sep 2020 13:53:53
Blackthorn I agree with you 100% about kids football and it was the reason I stopped coaching because of arguments with 2 other coaches all he banged on about was shape even when the played 7s I left in the 1st year of 11s as I was banging my head against a brick wall.

Also pro youth is a complete joke in this country as when the kids get there the majority think they have already made it.

Big changes need to happen at grass roots but I can’t see it happening.

KJA9

We do shape training at junior level because most of the boys have experience of the game and understand the concept of retaining positions, and to a degree it works.

But kids. it’s ridiculous, the should be focusing on technique (passing, shooting etc) . An old coach once said to me “the ball is round because it needs to be passed around”. The best advice I ever received.

You talk about pro youth and how they think they have made it, the same can be said for some of the under 10s coaches. It’s actually embarrassing listening to it sometimes.

06 Sep 2020 14:44:26
Kj, I actually agree with Doiger. Tierney has been constantly ripped a mew one in European games in the past. Do you think he is worth 25m? Don't get me wrong he is a good player and should be in the Scotland team no problem, but is he any better than Barasic (a regular starter for Croatia)? I don't see it. Only an opinion same as Doiger. Take from it what you will guys.

06 Sep 2020 15:29:49
Kja9. This is a debate, exchanging views. What is embarrassing is your personal remark. Tierney is nothing special, couldn't lace the boots of Caldow or the late great Sandy Jardine. Grow up and debate sensibly or return to the dark side!

Am not a Scotland fan. I don’t bother with internationals. Breaks out momentum to duck in the league. Just want to say Scott gemmil
Would give you the same product. He has been in and around the state for years onvs you will know this but they are all told to coach the same narrative stemming from
The Ada programme at the schools. My son had brian McLaughlin in holyriod. He went to school with Stephen Kelly mayo and the likes. He moved on to the 21s I think. James Grady I think done a bit after that. Not sure who does the holyrood school now. My point is you could bring in say ancelloti. The Everton coach. But it would be the same result. All the sfa coaches coach the same ethos mate. I’ve seen it personally.

06 Sep 2020 15:39:19
Doiger KT is a great left back and the fact you don’t see it is embarrassing.

Also your dark side remark is embarrassing also just because I rate an ex Celtic player I think you and seeker need to grow up and take the blue tinted specs off.

BB

I agree with you about coaches it was one of the reasons I left everyone lives winning but at the young age the boys weren’t enjoying playing as it was win at all costs at that age.

Kids should always want to win as I do as well but not if they aren’t going to enjoy it.

06 Sep 2020 15:57:11
Kja9. Would like to add just for the record. There’s a guy called Neil Macintosh. He’s one of the head honchos at the sfa programme. There’s someone above him
Can’t mind his name and obviously who ever has the big chair. Was brian mcclair I think who took over last I looked. Same job as the Dutch guy. You should look into that.
It’s all these people that get told of the sfa how they want Scotland to play. I could telL you a few stories abt the programme that surprises me. Not in a good way.

06 Sep 2020 15:58:25
Doiger what a poor comparison barisic could not leave Caldow s or Jardine boots
Not one of that Scotland team are any good but they happen to be the best around.

06 Sep 2020 16:00:41
Blackthorn boy. 100% correct mate. The whole
System is bollocks. As per previous posts. It stems from the sfa with regards to pro youth and the Scotland team. Absolute waste of time and tbh I can’t see it changing.

06 Sep 2020 16:52:15
What's Barisic got to do with it, I was talking about Tierney. I'm the first to acknowledge great Celtic players, e. g. McNeill, Dalgish, McGrain, but Tierney is VERY ORDINARY INDEED and couldn't lace Sandy Jardine's boots! Read my posts properly.

06 Sep 2020 17:02:59
Don't think that's entirely true John25. Imo Scotland have some good players and one very good player (Robertson) . I'm just echoing Doiger's point when he says he thinks that Tierney is overrated. Obviously you think the same going by your last post. And nothing to do with blue tinted specs KJ, if Tierney had played with us I'd have said the same. Falls into the same bracket as Hutton for me - good player but nothing special.

06 Sep 2020 17:05:06
God. I need to read what I’m
Playing eh. Typos galore. obvs I mean sfa in general.

06 Sep 2020 17:06:49
Doiger barisic has everything to do with it. I’m not interested in Celtic players.

06 Sep 2020 17:21:08
Arsenal have paid a helluva lot of cash for someone you don’t rate guys, I don’t think they will worry too much.

06 Sep 2020 17:58:04
Tierney has played at rb for Celtic before. Scotland could have played tierney at rb and cooper at cb from what I seen. Seemed to me he played a team to keep players happy to get a cap but certainly not able to entertain ther correct positions. Mf and lb in CB. ? Crazy. Shot himself in the foot. Why don’t they just play the same formation for so many games and play his best players in ther proper positions. 🤷‍♂️.

06 Sep 2020 18:09:47
More fool them wee Tam. Just wait till they next play in Europe.
