Definitely think we should be signing Shankland. He is desperate to play for us. The DR are trying to tout him for celtic and according to the DR they have been scouting him. He is worth a punt and would not cost a lot. He looks a typical cheeky confident striker and has a good work rate and score tally - what's not to like?

I wouldn’t like giving his club a brown penny, that’s all so no thanks.

Don’t doubt he might do a turn, like that he’s a bluenose etc but wouldn’t chuck Utd ten bob in the street let alone furnish them with in excess of a million or two.

I don't doubt shankland is desperate to sign for us but he'd be 3rd choice striker. He's apparently got a £2m price tag (mad) why aren't More teams trying to sign him? I personally think we can do better than him come the summer.

20 Jan 2020 18:39:18
His lack of energy, his lack of pace, his failure to produce at any level higher than he is currently at - and imagine a Gers fan quoting a Rhecord article as a source for anything! Grow some ambition for the team, Shankland is just another name like Walker and Moult that people are getting hysterical about for no reason. I know we have officially scouted him 4 times and not once was a recommendation made. That's fine by me.

Shankland has done far more than Moult or Walker ever did. Remember guys like Boyd and Dodds? Just out and out scorers but they did us a job in Scotland.

20 Jan 2020 19:36:52
No he's not swagman. Out of all his 100 and how ever many goals only 2 are v top flight opposition.

Shankland is developing as a player as his stats prove.
If you look at Morelos stats before Rangers they do not show much, but he developed.

He was with Aberdeen as a teenager and was loaned to St Mirren, but did not do much at either club and was freed.

Going to Ayr Utd was the making of him, scoring 50 goals in two seasons, and 22 so far for Dundee Utd

If the lower divisions were so easy then it should be a goal fest for strikers.

Kenny Miller rates him as does Neil McCann - they know him better than any of us.

We all have to start somewhere. And we all develop at different speeds. If I remember correctly Ian Wright did not play in the top flight until he was 25, when Crystal Palace took a gamble on him, and then Arsenal and the rest is history.

20 Jan 2020 21:05:52
Don't show much? Scored 32 in 47 games after moving over 6000 miles at the age of twenty to develop his career. We were too good for moult two years ago and the team is a million times stronger than then but moult scored goals consistently in the top flight. So I don't see Shankland as any better or having done more. Didn't get offered/ move to scottish prem when leaving Ayr which means either he didn't have an offer or chased a wage to go to scumdee United. Either example isn't a plus point for someone we would want to sign.

and Shankland has scored more goals

I doubt any poster on here has saw much of Shankland unless they are Ayr Utd or Dundee Utd supporters, which I doubt very much. So the only thing we can factually state is the number of goals a striker has scored. ALL players who develop positively go up the leagues - that is fact.

Transfermkt state he is worth £400 (k) - which is worth a gamble.

Morelos stats were amazing before he came to us.

20 Jan 2020 23:24:48
SeeUjimmy, the old Wright fantasy trotted out again. He was actually 22. And he was one in a million, Shankland is not. Morelos already was banging in the goals at a higher level as a teenager before we got him. And McCann and Miller have great track records as managers, eh? I know we have done our due diligence on Shankland and four times the verdict from the scouts was No. If he is good enough for us, where are the big money English clubs in the hunt for him? Still, if that's your level of ambition, you should be glad our brilliant management team will surpass that.

The Swagman, Boyd and Dodds were good strikers in the top league when we signed them. Indeed Dodds was an established international. Ridiculous comparison.

Have to laugh at some of our fans 1 minute Alfie is worth 20 to 25 million yet we want to replace him potentially with Lawrence Shankland so we want mega money for our top striker but fans are desperate to sign a player from Championship absolutely terrifying.

Covenater?

Keegan?

Vardy?

Paul86 - genuinely have no idea what goes on in your head while watching football. The boy scores goals. The difference in level between the top two leagues, Old Firm aside, isn’t that much. Now if you are saying we should be aiming higher, fine I can see that point (though personally I think he’s a decent low risk gamble as a back up) . But how you can sit and question Shankland while bigging Martin Boyle up like he’s the second coming of Ronaldinho is beyond me 😂.

21 Jan 2020 11:28:59
See u Jimmy. Kenny miller rated Ryan Hardie.

21 Jan 2020 11:51:46
John 25 lol - and Sounness did not rate McCoist!

21 Jan 2020 13:03:44
Good shout jimmy, the lad does not interest me however, if we sign him I’ll support him.

21 Jan 2020 17:00:03
It kinda worries me that he is now 25 and has had a crack at the top flight before without success. That said, he has been impressive in the Championship and scored a good goal v Hibs when he had little or no service all game. The honest reply from me is I don't know how he would do. Is he worth a punt? Probably not as that shower he is with will want too much from us for him. And it would pain me to see them pick up any money at all for the lad.
