I see Phil Jagielka and Leighton Baines probably going to be free agents at the end of the season. Does anyone think any of them could be worth signing for at least 1 season?

Both phil jagielka and leighton baines were superb players. It is i suppose, two positions we're looking at, ie. centre half and left back. If baines was injury free, he'd absolutely cakewalk into our left back position imo anyway.

I’m sure he meant Ryan Barbel although I’m sure you’re smart enough to have figured that out. He’s a good player but I’m sure his wages would be massively out of our price range. I think championship players and perhaps from some smaller countries will be more realistic. Going back to the original post, I don’t think either would be worth a punt. Our league is too fast for older players who are wanting to relax and retire up here.

Truth be told, we shouldn't be looking so much, at our left back position. If borna barisic had the heart for the vigours of scottish football, he would be an outstanding left back! The only thing lacking in barisic is the toughness required to play in scotland. This guy possess everything else, that a class left back should have. He is very skillful and has a terrific, educated, left peg. He can deliver superb balls, into the opposition box, he can take a wicked free kick and superb at corners and all dead ball situations. There is still time for this guy, known as the rangers chocolate man, to still carve out a terrific rangers career! He has almost all the tools and needs to toughen up without at times feigning serious injury, when he should be getting stuck in and getting on with it! Its a man's game.

I agree SC11, there’s a contrast of two left backs with Halliday not being the most gifted player but he can wear the jersey with pride. He was probably my most improved player this season. I posted on another thread that I wouldn’t write Barisic off, with a good preseason under his belt we could have a very very good player in the ranks.

On the basis of this year Barisic has produced nothing for us. Poor defensively and poor going forward. I would say he is worth another chance next year but the signs look bad. At his best Wallace was better than Barisic. It looks like we need to sign another left back as Halliday nor Barisic are good enough if we are to win the league.

Don't think he feigns serious injury, some players have different pain thresholds, some will play thru injury some won't. I wouldn't ever accuse him of faking it.

Could SC11 share where SG says Barisic has feigned an injury? I've seen a an interview where SG doesn't look impressed by Barisics reaction after a tackle/ getting injured.

Can’t argue that he plays for Croatia and must have talent. His performances against us in Europe had every one thinking what a player. Equally and in to the same extent he has been pretty shocking for us. No sure why and I can’t recall him putting in the crosses we expected which have lead to regular goals. As stated he is due a break and therefore another year but I remain unconvinced.
The player that played against us in Europ is more than good enough for our team but we have yet to see it. it’s a bad day for him and us when SG Prefers Halliday at left back to him.
