I can see why the owners would choose RM. He has a style of football, has played here as a player, and has six years of management experience. Ancelotti would be a massive gamble!

Jason I wonder if ancelloti using us as a bargaining chip for job in Italy or Spain.

04 Jun 2025 11:40:11
Pass to death is boring football.
RM is a massive gamble every manager/ head coach is a gamble.

04 Jun 2025 11:41:10
We just need to trust the process Jason. That being said my patience is wearing thin. I hope we announce the manager soon ?.

04 Jun 2025 11:47:53
I think both are a gamble, Ancelotti is a huge gamble as has zero experience as a manager in his own right. He may go on to be amazing, may be a disaster?

Martin at least has experience and done a good job to get Southampton promoted. There are doubts over his ability to change style when not working, but could still be successful.

Rose has the best record, but would it work in Scotland?

04 Jun 2025 11:51:34
Style of football yes, but going by this site he has no plan B, doesn't intend to have a plan b, and his defensive record seems at best, suspect.
We need better imo.

John - media reports that Fabregas (Como Manager) is linked to Inter Milan.

04 Jun 2025 12:13:04
Bar72. Southampton fan journo yesterday said in the prem he tried everything all diff formations and styles and nothing worked in the prem some of it was bizarre he said but he did try change it.

04 Jun 2025 12:19:40
Martin to me is very Mark Warburton, but less attacking. More of the keep ball nonsense we've been seeing for years.

04 Jun 2025 12:19:49
Storm, Celtic broke the record for most passes this season, over a thousand, I believe Martin would be a success in Scotland but would really worry about European games and games against them, can remember watching his team against Sunderland and the football his team played that day was different class, would still prefer someone else.

04 Jun 2025 12:21:40
Anceloti is a gamble but would rather take the gamble on him rather than Martin.

04 Jun 2025 12:29:57
I said exactly the same thing that John said last week. I have never truly believed that Ancelotti Jr. was going to come to Scotland.

04 Jun 2025 12:51:04
Mystar we aren't Celtic for 1.

2 Martin defensive record at all his 3 clubs is horrific to say the least.

04 Jun 2025 12:52:13
One Southampton fan jut no says so Paul must be true as everyone else including the majority of Southampton fans says otherwise.

04 Jun 2025 13:00:32
Its not the number of passes its what you do with them that count . The other mob had lots of the ball but passed it quick and didn't play it around at the back just for the sake of keeping the ball. Our slow build up has been making it difficult to break down defences for years and we need a change from that not another manager who plays that way, and only that way.

04 Jun 2025 13:16:44
Clearly you do not get my point storm, the champions of our league broke the record last season, that must have not been boring football as well then.

04 Jun 2025 13:24:38
Wslgers there cb's have the most of the ball in many games, keeper cb's fullback back to the cb then the other fullback back to the keeper, I'm not looking for a manager that works that way but that is Martin and believe he'll have as much success as Rodgers does against other clubs.

04 Jun 2025 13:28:11
I don't know or haven't read any other storm the saints fan journo was on podcast with Rangers review i think it was. Only passing on what he said ??.

04 Jun 2025 13:46:29
In the SPL we are going to be a possession based team whether we like it or not. The opposition we are up against are hardly going to dominate the ball against us.

Brining in a possession based coach seems like a suitable fit. PC tried to play as a transition team and it meant we lacked control of games. Was excellent in Europe but poor in the league.

Why I don't have a problem with Martin coming in as the league is a priority for us. I do worry we will drop performances in Europe but right now we need to win domestically.

04 Jun 2025 13:48:28
Paul you are right. according to Transfermarkt he tried 6 different formations in his 16 games in charge. his successor only got 2 more draws as well in his 22 games in charge. 37 goals lost in his 16 in charge and around 50 for his successor. I reckon Southampton were out of their depth in EPL no matter who was in charge. Not suggesting RM as manager but like the facts.

04 Jun 2025 13:54:10
I don't want to go on about the weekly low block that we play against but RM style is very much about possession and rotations to move opponents about and then target spaces. In SPL he will only have 1 half of pitch to implement those tactics, teams will allow us to have the ball in our own half.
One thing I do disagree with is he only uses plan A, every coach, to most fans only do this, however, 99.9% or coaches have many adaptations and tweets to plan A. The only play one way doesn't apply to any so called elite coach/ manager.

04 Jun 2025 13:59:43
What happened to the good old days of bypassing the midfield and lumping it up to a forward built like the gable end of a hoose lol.

04 Jun 2025 14:10:25
No Mystar I get the point and what Celtic done last season is irrelevant as Stevie says it's what you do with it that counts. 63 goals his Southampton team lost and they scored 80 odd. We need someone that can sort a defence and he has proven in all his jobs he can't.

A lot of Southampton fans wanted rid of him before the start of the season for epl.

Leicester fans love Rangers now because they don't want him.

If it is him which I think it is as reports saying ancelotti talks have broken down then I'll back him and I hope he proves me wrong but it's a poor start IMHO to the new owners.

04 Jun 2025 14:10:47
100% correct wsl good post.

04 Jun 2025 14:15:35
7 wins 1 draw 4 losses against the Tim's = one trophy yeah he had the measure of them ? how many trophy's did Celtic win in that time we had the measure of them?

04 Jun 2025 14:18:03
Thanks for that Angus. Southampton were out their depth with those stats. Good to hear Martin has a plan A, B and C. I think he would be quite successful with us ?.

04 Jun 2025 15:28:04
Guys most coaches have a different setup when in or out of possession. very few play with flat lines.

most will set up at the start based on defensive based or attacking based depending on the opposition.

my biggest concern is that our current crop of players take too long to move the ball forward. seen forwarders running back into midfield because they are fed up waiting on the ball coming forward to accept the ball then immediately just pass it back to the defender.

then you have midfielders picking up the ball and without even looking forward immediately pass the ball back. Frustrating as hell.
