Gerrard, Gerrard, Gerrard. One title during covid. Less cups than St Johnstone. teams that fell apart every single year of him as manager. huge wages. making the board keep players like Kent and Morelos. Snaking off in the middle of the night. 1 out of 9. done nothing since leaving in fact he's been a huge flop at every club he's managed so far.

Remind me again why people would be happy to have him back? i'd rather have Derek McInnes. ?? ill always appreciate 55 but let's be honest it was a season without fans it was a freak season that most likely will never happen again. I can't wait till rose is announced to stop all this carry on.

Agree17 Disagree0

01 May 2025 09:30:41
I cannot argue with any of that.

01 May 2025 09:33:45
A season unbeaten is not freak. It's a team that believes they will win and believes in their manager. Not luck. class built by Stevie G.

01 May 2025 09:55:12
Aye you were doing OK, until you mentioned mcinnes.

01 May 2025 09:55:25
Totally agree muscat. A step back imo.

01 May 2025 10:15:36
This is my last post on SG as it's all day everyday I agree with most what you say but I would rather have SG than McInnes that's is just crazy talk about delboy.

01 May 2025 10:16:52
The colonel they were different circumstances to that year as we all know but I would say it is a freak as it happens not often at all. So it is in definition a freak season.

01 May 2025 10:23:24
Colonel there was 0 fans so please explain how that isn't a freak one off season?

01 May 2025 10:23:24
Derek McInness?! Please stop! ????.

01 May 2025 10:26:22
Were allowed a personal preference jfm. And mine is i'd rather mcinnes than the return of gerrard.

01 May 2025 10:43:15
We cannot go backwards to move forward, Gerard has done nothing in football since he left Rangers. Barry has come in and helped out while we go through the takeover process but never seriously a contender. This is a new beginning for us so I believe we should start with a new face in the building, someone that demands respect so for me Rose or Muscat.

01 May 2025 10:43:41
This may be an unpopular opinion but we won the league that season because the immense pressure from the stands was not there. They were always capable but crumbled in the most important stretch of the season when the pressure and fan expectation ramped up. Hopefully with the new investment and some good strong signings we can overcome the vicious cycle we've been caught in.

01 May 2025 10:46:22
Gerrard helped create and harness the clique culture that has been our downfall.

01 May 2025 10:51:15
Storm I agree and don't see the need to start constant daily threads on why anyone thinks he is the right choice or not.

01 May 2025 11:28:01
Muscatin I'd rather anyone before mcinnes. That's my personal preference, is that okay with you.
The fact you would rather have mcinnes says a lot.
By the way I don't want SG either.

01 May 2025 11:50:03
I am sorry but any championship that occurred during the covid event was pretty much a freak event. It is talked about in the MLB, NHL, NBA and NFL here and most fans agree that those conditions were pretty much a "lets keep our athletes and revenue" afloat seasons. It wasn't about the sport. I don't think Gerrard did anything special and our players performed under no pressure whatsoever.

01 May 2025 11:56:39
You are right Angus, doesn't help when people fed up hearing about SG start a thread about him.

01 May 2025 12:00:25
Thats good for you jfm your attitude tells me a lot.

01 May 2025 12:03:35
JFM ?.

01 May 2025 12:18:32
Zero fans, covid. I get it. Just points to toxic fans. That's probably why Butland is a bag of nerves. Still no freak though. To win each and every game against parking the bus, low blocks, hammer throwers. No it takes the Gerard to build the team and the players to respect one of the finest midfielders ever. And that respect means you get maximum effort in training and on the pitch. Run through walls for an ex player like Gerard. No freak. a good team with pride at that time. It needed refreshed and we know what likely happened there. Rested on our laurels and SG was gone. Come back SG and finish what you started because this great group on here can't stop talking about you to this day.

01 May 2025 12:28:49
They didn't collapse every year, we won the league unbeaten and the circumstances were the same for every club, in fact you could argue that the lack of fans affects us and the other mob more than the rest of the teams in Scotland. I don't hear Liverpool fans decrying their title win in the Covid season, they hadn't won the league for 19 years and were ecstatic at winning it just like we were .
As for winning less trophies than St Johnstone, I ask again what would you rather have won, 2 cups or the league title?

01 May 2025 12:37:48
Stop what carry on mustcatin? Threads about Gerrard that you just started, oh dear! ?.

01 May 2025 12:52:28
If the board let stevie g have funds to build his squad he would never have left the way brenda does in the summer etc builds a squad for the coming season they spend example £20 mill we spend £5m managers need funds to build yr in yr out and gerrard was not getting the funds he needed to build a squad were villa offered him a job with funds to spend same as the saudi. s did.

01 May 2025 13:14:32
Rabbi - agree 100%. Only reason the team of one dips won that league was becausethere were no fans there.

01 May 2025 13:14:52
Bpy blue your reply makes 0 sense btw 0.

01 May 2025 13:15:17
Gerrard was exactly the correct appointment in 2018.
After the shambles under the previous managerial incumbents, the club and fans needed someone top galvanise them and more important "but into".
Gerrard's appointment raised the profile of the club.
He won one of the most important titles in our history.
He won it in style with an unbeaten league campaign.
He built a reputation in Europe after the embarrassment of Progres.
On the downside, 1 trophy in 9 is a poor haul.
Where it fell apart was when his personal ambitions weren't matched by the financial restraints on our club.
And the lure of the EPL was too great.
I thank him for what he done at the time. Always be grateful for 55.
But it isn't as if we are welcoming back a Walter Smith.
It's a no thanks for me.
With the takeover we have a chance to build something special over the next few years. You don't look back, to look forward.
For those reasons, he would now be the incorrect appointment.

01 May 2025 13:17:23
Intr selling kent and morelos would have gave him funds. that he needed funds chat doesn't cut it for me he spend 10m on kent and grezda alone.

01 May 2025 13:45:09
Interesting that other posters ridiculed your mcinnes comment much harder than I did but it was me you namechecked.

01 May 2025 14:05:03
Mustcatin these are your words.
"I can't wait for news that rose has been appointed to stop all this carry on" all what carry on? Discussions about Gerrard? You started the thread on Discussion about Gerrard. Make it make sense mate.
Good post mph, my thoughts exactly!

01 May 2025 14:57:09
The carry on of wanting gerrard back boy blue. So yeah there's always that.

01 May 2025 14:58:24
Others didn't add little personal parts in to there replys tho jfm you did.

01 May 2025 15:03:56
The old 1 trophy out of 9 rearing its head again.

In his first season he inherited a squad containing Tav, Alfie, Jack, Halliday, Candeias and not a whole lot more. Anyone expecting him to come in and win trophies in those circumstances are off their head. Granted we maybe hoped for it at the time but realistically it was highly unlikely.

The second season had its ups and downs but ended disappointingly. I think we can all agree that the third season more than made up for it. We should've won both cups but I firmly believe we took our eye off the ball in 2 games because winning the league meant so much.

I get the arguments against Gerrard and he wasn't without his faults in his stint. However if you're looking for a young manager who knows our league, knows how to win it and gets our club then I can't think of a better realistic candidate.

I also get the fact that the manner in which he left leaves a bitter taste however, as I've posted on here before, it's 2025 and unfortunately not many managers are knocking Aston Villa back to stay here, ironically Gerrard is hypothetically now one of the few who would do just that. ?.

01 May 2025 15:13:27
So just to be clear mustcatin, you want people to stop posting reasons for Gerrard coming back, so you can post reasons why he shouldn't?

01 May 2025 15:15:29
ASA - Very true re clique culture and one of those is still here - eh Mr Tavs? ?- good enough servant but we will only truly move on when he moves on - and that's a fact!

01 May 2025 15:22:59
My original reply said you were doing OK until you mentioned mcinnes. You then name checked me with your personal opinion comment. Its all there in black and white. My opinion which i'm happy to share is mcinnes is rank. If you want to keep your opinions personal maybe best not to post them on an open forum.

01 May 2025 15:36:38
Honestly don't see why everyone is so vehemently against Mcinnes, he's my choice.

1 successful foreign manager in our history and it went bad very quickly.

Gvb, fail. Caixinha, fail. PLG, Fail. Clement, fail.

99% of our success is scottish bred.

01 May 2025 15:41:01
Question for Edds, is there any way I can block threads with Gerrard or SG in them? ?.

01 May 2025 17:34:53
To think people paid cash to watch Eubank vs Benn and we are getting this all for free ??.

01 May 2025 18:03:12
Peoplw who believe in Gerrard need to realise the year we won the league our top scorer and probably top player was Morelos our captain was Tav and we had decent contributions from Halliday, Patterson and Ryan Jack not one of those guys was brought in by Gerrard so people should realise, he didn't build the team.

Yes he got some signings right such as Goldson and Kent but what about all the failures and the millions wasted? No wonder he jumped ship, he probably realised there would be no cash to strengthen and he had a rubbish team that needed a full restructure.

So as mentioned earlier one trophy in 3 years was rubbish. He was crap at Villa and Al Ettifaq. As for his signings Bacuna 2m, Grezda 2m, Sadiq 1.8m, Polster free, Hastie free, Andy King free, Ejaria free, Ojo free, Jack Simpson free, Worrell loan, Kamberi loan, McAuley free, Zungu loan, Jordan Jones free, Barker half million, Itten 3m, Edmundson 800,000, Helander 3 and a half million, all those free and loan signings got paid huge wages for doing nothing.

They were all garbage. Do you want him back, would you trust him in the transfer market? There was also his pal Flanagan from Liverpool and Coulibaly, just utter dross.
