We go on about getting young players out on loan, McKinnon is example, not exactly young, he 21 same as Devine, Lowry, all go out of contract this year, if we do not offer contract does this mean they go for free (no traing fee) . none are going to make it at Rangers, what point of keeping players of this age if they are not ready for first team by 18/ 19 they should go, we are paying stupid money to these young guys, have no incentive to push there self. look at other teams not just in Scotland they push there young players on. look at Tottenham/ Liverpool last night 18/ 19 year old starting both teams, yes they had injuries but if it was us we would not start youngsters, or if the fact like other parts of recruitment we are not signing good enough youth players.

Agree0 Disagree0

the standard of our young boys isn't high enough to hold a first team spot or they would. the manager doesn't not play young boys due to their age but their ability.

If you are good enough you are old enough. Clearly none of them are good enough.

Gers Spurs had only Spence (24) and Bergvall (18) and Gray (18) in their team so not exactly riddled with their youth and Liverpool had Bradley (21) and Quansah (21). We started Dio (23) Jefte (21) and Igamane (22) against Hibs so 3 players of similar age. not all spurs players came through academy. so whilst they have some youth in so do we and although Liverpool are home grown Spurs wasnt.

yes we need to have more successes from our own academy but 18/ 19 possibly too young for 1st team and they need to get game time somewhere and develop to 1st team. look at King when we threw him in and he went backwards.

{Ed001's Note - none of those 3 Spurs players came through their academy.}

Op's point still stands, if they are not looking worthy of a first team spot by the age of 18/ 19 then we shouldn't be keeping these lads till they're 21/ 22. Move them out and get new guys in.

I was just going to post that Ed.

Young players develop at different ages, that will be the reason we still have them at 20/ 21/ 22.

09 Jan 2025 12:26:38
If you read the post he mentions that not all young Spurs players came through their academy,

{Ed001's Note - yes, but I was just pointing out that none of them did at all. It would have been closer if he mentioned that not all Liverpool ones did, as Bradley didn't. None of the Spurs players did.}

Interesting to see how many young players are in the squad for tonight’s game v Dundee.

09 Jan 2025 13:03:39
Just like age doesn’t matter anymore n the way we say it. Same can be said for youth. Some players mature quicker or slower than others so ye can’t get rid of players at 19 like has been suggested here.
Yes some maybe. But not in general.

Angus where did I say teams were riddled with young players, just stating they at least give young players a chance.

09 Jan 2025 13:50:10
it was my point I was making. Your point was they give young players a chance and I said correctly that we have as many young players in our team as both did last night. As Ed also correctly says only 1 came through the academy of the clubs who they were playing for so they don't have academies either which provide a conveyor belt of young talent.
if we want young players in pour team then we need to stop looking for additional CHs when we have an injury crisis. I would rather see King and Nsiala given game time than buying or loaning Evans, Halkett, Hanley and even Porteous.
King oproved he was good enough for SPFL but struggled understandably at CL level. so we need to play them to see if they are going to make it at Rangers and not just look at fans opinions.
Oh and the salaries for the Spurs and Pool players are between £20k and £75k per week so they also pay their young lads too much you could argue.

oh and Gers sorry but picking one word from my response and taking offence at it rather than the actual points I correctly make seems odd. It isn't personal just putting my opinion and the facts out there.

sorry but this double posting seems to be catching ?.
