So guys a question for everyone after last nights performance. Can PC’s formation work?
29 Nov 2024 09:19:52
It has worked in Europe but he seems to change in domestic football.
29 Nov 2024 09:26:54
Hes the new paul le guen.
29 Nov 2024 09:27:19
It works in Europe because the opposition plays to win and doesn't park the bus. Open play, let's players have time to express themselves.

1 swallow doesn't make a summer.
It's been dismal for a year, but worked last night against a team who were all over the place (I think that's the worst opponent performance I've seen in Europe for a decade) who were so open it was unreal.
We don't play open teams every week, we play closed teams and we can't break them down.
No taking away from the players last night, you can only beat the team in front of you and they did that (though a team better than us would have scored many, many more goals) . But at the same time you have to put it into context. Nice were absolutely terrible and gifted us 3 goals.
So no, I don't think PC's system can work. I think last night was a welcome outlier against a poor opponent, not a proving of the rule. The proving has happened over the last year, giving us a much fuller dataset to work with.

Hopefully the posters calling Clement clueless will maybe cut that out as that man is as far away from clueless as possible, he'll have more football knowledge in his big toe compared to them calling him clueless.

Do you guys think Dessers puts bets on himself not to score ? the miss last night was one of his worst and let's, be honest there are plenty to choose from . That said great result but in truth Nice were poor and should have scored at least 7 but weren't ruthless enough.

Agree with you regarding Raskin My star.
For the record I’m not calling Phil clueless but I suspect you’re referring to others.
I’m still to be convinced with him but outstanding last night.
Hopefully given time he’ll win me over.
Nursing a sore head after that match, a good night was had.

gdog I see it differently. we payed well, closed them down and made them play passes which were poor. Igamane gets across defender for first creating the chance for Cerny, Dio doesn't stop for the second when defender let's ball go to his keeper and finishes well. Anticipates the back pass for the third and rounds the goalkeeper, takes a touch before finishing, fourth similar anticipation of a pass.
so good play from us which caused their poor play. we were defensively strong, midfield played well and created chances up front. not much wrong. we need to create the same swarming over teams on league and force them into mistakes. I suspect the style is meant to be the same but the players don't carry out the plan as well as last night. the openness does allow our CBs to play easier passes and cuts out side to side granted.

His 'formation' can easily work in the spl or Amy league for that matter it's about how the players are told to play within that system people talk about not needing two midfielders but then they should at times go box to box or at times drop in and our full backs can get really high creating overloads where we can then work our opposition.
Formation is nothing more than a loose idea of where players are playing on the pitch, patterns of play are what makes the difference it's all about how the players carry out their role within the system.
29 Nov 2024 10:07:54
I actually think this puts more weight behind the issue of him not changing formation.
If he thinks he can play the same way against Nice away as Hibs at home then he’s not the man for the job.
29 Nov 2024 10:10:38
Co2 same as myself mate, I went over the score with malts last night and a tad ruff this morning couldn't even go swimming.
29 Nov 2024 10:18:29
This may seem harsh as I know he's a player who gives his all - but last night was the result of not playing Dessers.
If we were to look over at the other side of the city, they have Kyogo who leads the press, links up play and creates space - we now have that in Danilo.
They also have Ida, who is quick, powerful, direct and unsettled defences - we seen last night that Igamane brings that.
Unfortunately Dessers just isn't suited to playing for a team that faces a low block every week.
Early days, but if we can get Danilo fit I think we'll start to see things come together.

I think big Dessers is a decent guy but time has to be called on him after that miss. It was the only negative aspect of the game, a horrendous miss. No excuses I'm afraid.

Lets not get carried away again, there has been a lot of false dawns already this season. It was a great result and performance last night but everyone knows his set up does not work domestically, if he can't see that then he is clueless, if he is just persistent then he is stubborn. Everyone has been saying for months that he has no plan b and should change how we play and set up domestically. We looked very weak down the right when Tav and McCausland came on, both are not good enough as squad players nevermind starting 11 and Dessers should never be anywhere near our team. Delighted for Igamane.

Angus, I think you have blue tinted spectacles.
For the first goal their makeshift CB is completely the wrong shape before the ball even comes in so has no idea where Igamane is. Igamane does well, to his credit, but any half decent CB is side on there, sees him coming and just steps 1 step forward rather than waiting for the ball.
The second the makeshift CB ducks and let's it go over his head instead of just heading clear. Again, Dio does well, but its an easy defensive header under zero pressure for an actual CB.
The third the makeshift CB plays a blind pass under zero pressure that an actual CB would never play. Again, we capitalise (which we should have done more) but it's still an other unforced error.
And the fourth their makeshift CB is under zero pressure at all, no-one anywhere near him and trys to play a pass that's never on. Igamane does well to cut it out, but an actual CB doesn't let him past there either. It's a foul we get in a wide area, not a goal.
If that was Souttar making those sorts of mistakes under limited to no pressure our fans would be calling for his head, not praising the opposition for exploiting them. We didn't have to do much at all. It wasn't great pressure, it was mistakes under limited pressure by players playing out of position for them (think Sands and King v Liverpool! ) .
As I said, credit to the players on the park for taking advantage 4 times and winning the game. That's all they can do against an opposition giving them what they did.
But looking at that last night as some sort of second coming of PC and his system, that we were outstanding against a good team and forced them to be bad, in the face of a years worth of contrary evidence and ignoring the shambles that Nice actually were (acknowledged by both McInness and McCoist - who joked he fancied 10 minutes against them in current condition) is what keeps us kicking this can down the road.

Lol so he is clueless slider brilliant, get in and help him then with your superior knowledge man ??.
29 Nov 2024 11:46:08
Mystar you don’t captain Brugge and win titles with Brugge if you’re clueless. I don’t think he is clueless his issue and it’s always been his issue is his stubbornness.
29 Nov 2024 12:50:27
I never said he was clueless mate, I gave two possible theories by using the word 'if'?.
29 Nov 2024 13:08:59
thanks gdog, glad that I have blue tinted spectacles on as a Rangers fan. yes they did help but rather than look at the negatives I saw the positive aspects of our play. Rosario is 27 with 1 dutch cap so isn't a newbie to this. and you have hit the nail on the head we automatically criticise our player rather than look at how well the opposition played and exploited that.
I am not saying we were outstanding and still don't see us as world beaters but neither was it entirely down to a poor Nice team. every game we win gives the team confidence and winning 4-1 away from home against a team unbeaten at home since May isn't something to be sniffed at. PSG only managed a draw in October with 10 of the squad that night playing some part, Bard was injured otherwise that would have been 11.
oh and rosario was not playing in his normal position last night and the only other two were Bard is a left back but was playing at wing back and Bouanani a RW playing in behind the 2 forwards. sad really but went to check the facts, just me.
29 Nov 2024 13:11:47
Just aswell we never let you help with your superior knowledge or you would still be running around looking for quality players to play Beale's system?.
29 Nov 2024 14:42:25
Brilliant clueless coldo two users the same day ??.
29 Nov 2024 14:43:58
Backing Dessers up takes the biscuit man you want a cf with 1 goal replacing him cc.
29 Nov 2024 14:58:32
I never said he was clueless mate. Have a read at it again. I gave two possible outcomes or theories.
