Asa, do you think there's any chance kjetil knutsen will be our next rangers manager mate ? I know you think he's most certainly talented enough, but do you also think he'd take our job, especially as we don't have a lot financially compared to celtic and he may think our job is too big as he wouldn't have the correct tools to challenge celtic and brendan rodgers ? What's your overall thoughts on this pal ?I do like knutsen and his style of play/ management ?.
27 Nov 2024 12:26:59
You don't need a lot of money to challenge celtic. You need to spend it correctly. All there best players is players that we could afford. Maeda, kyogo, kuhn, hatate all cost less than danilo, cost same as what we have splashed on dessers. Our recruitment is embarrassing.
27 Nov 2024 12:38:38
The wages we've paid these players over the years is ridiculous. I doubt Celtic players are on the wages we were paying Goldson, Lundstrum and others.
27 Nov 2024 12:57:47
It really is as simple as that paul. Our recruitment has been a shambles, wasted millions.
27 Nov 2024 13:05:32
Bang on Paul, right manager right recruitment can win the league, Celtic have the funds to come right back at us, they can afford to make mistakes going forward we cannot, at the moment we cannot lay a glove on them even in an individual match which is shocking.
27 Nov 2024 13:07:45
We keep saying that we wasted millions on poor recruitment and we certainly have but the fact remains that the money isn`t there anymore and any manager new or otherwise won`t have the budget that the other mob have currently. There is no point comparing signings in the past the fact remains that they have spent really big money on Engels and Idah and we can`t afford to compete in the transfer market until we find another gem to sell like they do or qualify for the C. L . Our first target should be to build a side that beats all the rest and at least have it come down to the OF games. We do have a budget to build a team that doesn`t drop points to Hearts, Kilmarnock, Dundee Utd and Aberdeen like we have already done this season.
27 Nov 2024 13:16:50
so Paul, Nawrocki, Lagerbielke, Holm, Palma, Yang, Tilio, Kwan, Iwata, Haksobanavic, Ajeti, Soro, Ideguchi, Abildgaard just as examples over last few years who haven't been a success. They have more money to spend on more players so will have more successes potentially. Going the names of the few who were successes doesn't paint the whole picture of their recruitment process.
27 Nov 2024 13:16:57
No club is going to be successful with the signings, just doesn't happen, Gerrard signed around 40 players and many very successful? probably around 20% and if he never left he wins us the league again.
27 Nov 2024 13:50:55
Muscat, Mcinness, Solksjaer, Knudsen
I'll just leave that here, Nuffield said.
27 Nov 2024 13:53:52
SWS I definitely think he would be interested and as for budget, the budget he has worked with is smaller than Motherwell and similar in Scotland.
I certainly wouldn't be concerned about his ability to work with low finances.
27 Nov 2024 13:56:00
The bid difference angus is in amongst all the failures they are picking up 1/ 2 gems maybe sometimes even 3 a year to add to an already solid squad. When was last time we found 1? They don't need to be great at it just better than us, which they are, by far sadly.
27 Nov 2024 14:31:51
Difference between us and them…. They know that not all players will be a success, so they take a punt. They can afford to - and when they have to they spend. They also seem to be far better at hidden gems. God forbid they find another Larsson
You’re also forgetting CCV, Macgregor and now Trusty - along with Bernardo. Take out McGregor and that’s 18 milll.
Johnston and Taylor will probs worth abit.
If they sold their first team easy 100 million.
27 Nov 2024 14:37:05
We just need players, and a method of play to beat every other team in the league, and then old firm games take care of themselves!
27 Nov 2024 14:39:34
So we just accept mediocrity Angus / Star? Or do we get rid of Koppen and Pc and get people in who know what they are doing?
We wouldn't have won the league again under SG, we were capitulating towards the end of his tenure. We were only 5 points clear because Celtic had a poor start.
27 Nov 2024 14:46:45
It is far harder for recruitment team to buy players for a team that is currently unsuccessful and expect new players to come in and make a positive contribution, than it is for the recruitment team of a club that is going well. New players for that club have to come in and play well with the good players around them, or else they will disappear into part of a non playing squad and be forgotten.
27 Nov 2024 14:47:01
Using Kuhn as an example every one of my mates who support celtic said he was honking and wanted him sold in the summer even if for 1m. Now they are saying 25m.
27 Nov 2024 14:53:29
Paul is bang on the money.
Apart from their big sales, in the last 2 years Celtic have got:-
They got £4 million for Arsefelt.
They got £2 million for Turnball.
They got more than £1.3 million Ajeti and Ideguchi.
They got £2 million for Lawal ( who? ) .
They got £3 million for Mikey fecking Johnston!
We apparently got £800,000 for all our "big" stars this summer!
27 Nov 2024 15:15:13
We would have won the league solo and gerrard had us 7 points clear before he left, not 5 ?.
27 Nov 2024 15:15:48
That was a good post paul86 ?.
27 Nov 2024 15:45:41
BB4you are right they do get more success to fit into the first team but they do tend to do it with a successful base whereas we are trying to change 5,6 or 7 players in/ out
MPH good stats but the balance of those are:
Starfeed cost £4-5M
Turnbull cost £3.5 M
Ajeti cost £5M
Ideguchi c£800k
Lawal c£300k
Johnston cost nothing but around £2.5m wages and fee received more widely reported as £2.5M. not bad except how often did 'Mikey' play in their first team; so the proverbial waste of a wage?
so they do get fees but don't always make a profit. the actual fees for our sales was reported in press as greater than £800k but that these were offset by contract pay offs or amortisation of the sale price? Did Celtic have to do the same and the reported figures don't show the same in their accounts.
I am not arguing our transfer business is good just that the cherry picking of individuals to show they have an entirely successful process is definitely wrong.
27 Nov 2024 15:47:18
Sorry you're so wrong we were 7 points infront coldo, plus the fact celtic couldn't beat his side, was 8 games before a win for them and he left with 6 wins and a draw against them.
27 Nov 2024 16:02:00
Solo koopen and pc have proved before us they know what they are doing our fan base just has no patience.
27 Nov 2024 16:07:22
How does anyone know we would have won the league for a fact?
27 Nov 2024 16:07:26
Not disputing any of what you said either, Angus.
The fact is we need to greatly improve on:-
What we sign players for.
What we sell players for.
When to sell players.
And what we agree to pay players in relation to value for money.
27 Nov 2024 17:20:49
They sell the players for money because they win things and look good against everyone else, up until recently, they've been gound out in Europe, we sold Bassey for massive cash after 6 good months and 4 or 5 stellar performances, we could have sold a few more but hung on too long. Everything is perspective, if hibs don't equalise late on last night, they're player ratings are 3s and 4s instead of 7s and 8s, for 1 minute of a difference.
27 Nov 2024 17:47:00
Coldo not one poster said it was a fact, but it would have been very likely.
27 Nov 2024 17:49:01
Solo the same reason that you said we wouldn't have won the league for ? it's an opinion mate.
27 Nov 2024 18:14:54
Superb post Paul the best I have seen from you on here ?.
27 Nov 2024 18:16:21
Good post mph.
We wouldn’t have won the league if SG stayed that’s just utter bs.
27 Nov 2024 18:18:14
Solo they don’t it just to suit there pathetic argument. The snake SG done one in the middle of the night.
How many points did Celtic drop after their poor start to the season?
27 Nov 2024 19:24:11
MPH I know that you do and like me like to look at stats and I also agree with every point you make in your last post. However the entire story needs to be put out there so that people can see every signing of Celtic hasn't been a success, in fact proportionally it is probably poor, i. e. below the 40% success seen as normal and that they down make money from everyone. it is surprising how many seem to believe the opposite as it fits in the whole club is rubbish agenda.
27 Nov 2024 19:30:17
Fork, not really enough said, you`ve named 4 managers, 2 of whom we wouldn`t want anywhere near Ibrox and 2 that would be a massive gamble. Maybe you should say some more.
27 Nov 2024 22:09:12
Yep we would have been celebrating 56 if Stevie had stayed, no doubt about it. He had celtic on toast at that time.
27 Nov 2024 22:22:01
Was listing SWS most recent manager fancies, nuff said? not nuffield, our Coops is very undecided wsl?.
