Got into a group conversation last night regarding rangers current striker cyriel dessers and how he misses the easier chances when he's got time to think and will score the harder chances that comes his way which makes us all think, where did that finish come from ?It got us talking about great striker's we've had at rangers in the past ie very natural goalscorers ie. ally mccoist, kris boyd, nikicia jelavic, jermain defoe, marco negri
mark hateley, alfredo morelos etc ?So fellow bears on this list who do we think was the most natural finisher/ goalscorer ?Not easy i know.
05 Nov 2024 05:29:31
When he does finish the only thing that comes to my mind is - the law of averages. Its literally 1 in 5.
Have to say though i loved the way Boyd finished chances at his peak.
05 Nov 2024 05:44:15
Ostenstaad, beattie, Gayle, Jeffers, Sebo, Dessers.
05 Nov 2024 07:41:57
If a keeper let dessers score he would still be 1 in 5. Not suited to our game. Danilo will become the main striker if he stays fit.
05 Nov 2024 07:46:08
Federico Nieto, what a pler.
05 Nov 2024 07:57:01
Can't go past Super Ally.
05 Nov 2024 08:01:44
Mccoist, Negri and Mols.
05 Nov 2024 08:38:37
Marco Negri the most natural finisher i've seen at rangers in his relatively short spell ?He missed nothing and was absolutely deadly, with terrific movement, especially in the box ?.
05 Nov 2024 09:02:53
Ally McCoist is by far the most natural goalscorer we have had in my lifetime. One seldom mentioned but would run him close is Maurice Johnston.
05 Nov 2024 09:15:13
Has to be negri I am of an age where I got to see him and he was sublime.
05 Nov 2024 09:38:12
Negri was class for half a season. Flash in the pan. couldn't get out of Ibrox quick enough. Now does all he can to mention Rangers at every chance to stay relevant.
05 Nov 2024 10:06:50
Super ally but DJ was some goal scorer too considering he played in defence too.
05 Nov 2024 10:16:11
Negri had one purple patch in his whole career, and it just happened to be with us, and for all of 5 months! The guy was a fud, who stopped playing for us, and was out of here the first chance he got. It boils my p*#s the way he rocks up nowadays, and how some fans wax lyrical about him, regardless of the big crap he done all over us.
05 Nov 2024 10:17:01
1 in 5 for Dessers. that is being rather generous.
The other issue is that Dessers can't hold a ball up and his movement is mostly bad and he always has a defender right on him and then dives at the slightest touch.
SUPER ALLY! Is the man!
Mols could have been a player had he not got that injury.
05 Nov 2024 10:20:46
Colin Stein and big DJ.
05 Nov 2024 10:21:33
Super ally missed a lot of chances and he was my hero growing up it was said back then he would need 3/ 4 before he got one I didn’t agree with that. He is my pick.
05 Nov 2024 10:35:11
I liked Parlane tbf, but I guess Ally n DJ, negri was something else for a while, what was it 35? Also think what Mols could've been, but for Kahns attempted murder.
05 Nov 2024 10:42:28
Mind they were singing Ally Ally get to f@#k, turned that around?.
05 Nov 2024 10:49:09
Amato the legend.
05 Nov 2024 11:06:23
Thanks goodness I don't wake up every morning desperate to berate my team or the players. Groundhog Day again!

Best natural Goalscorer:
by some distance McCoist. He didn't have a couple of purple patches in his career (like Negri or Morelos) and scored all types of goals, from all types of places. Importantly, he scored important goals. Yes he could add a brace in a comfortable win, but Ally tended to be the one who scored WHEN IT MATTERED: Old Firms, Cup Finals etc. That for me is the mark of a top striker. Not to mention 2 x European Golden Boot.
Notable mentions for Mo Johnston as a natural goalscorer, he was excellent and the often forgotten Rod Wallace, who came with low expectations but was probably the best natural scorer after McCoist at that time.
Boyd did well, but struggled in the big games as he didn't have the same all round game as the 3 mentioned above.
Morelos is, in my mind, the only real goalscorer we've had since then and he wasn't in the same class as any of them for me.
05 Nov 2024 11:27:11
Chance per goal.
Dessers scores 1 in 6.
Guys like Haaland are slightly better than 1 in 5.
Shankland last season was just over 1 in 5.
Shankland this season is 1 in 43!
We all know the Nigerian Goalscoring Prince’s limitations but when he’s our only fit striker?♂️.
05 Nov 2024 12:41:36
Jukebox was a great striker, work rate, hard as nails and barrowload of goals either with partner or up front himself, probably a better shot to goal ratio than McCoist as well, having. Laudrup and Gazza in team would of helped right enough.
05 Nov 2024 12:47:47
Theres a difference between who is our best goalscorer and who is the most the natural finisher at their the time at the club. McCoist scored lots of goals and Big D. J as well, and more than just the headers he is always credited with. Some of our great strikers like Mols and Jelavic were not the most natural goalscorers.
In his short time with Rangers I would go with Negri who always seemed to get his chances on target and in, even the sclaffs . Boyd was a great finisher too in his first spell with us, he rarely missed the target and someone mentioned MoJo who always seemed composed and slotted away any chances he got .
I never saw much of Jim Forrest but I had a mate who said he was a fantastic finisher ( up until Berwick unfortunately) .
05 Nov 2024 13:01:08
It’s McCoist for me.
05 Nov 2024 13:10:50
"Nigerian goalscoring prince"! Well, at least one part of that is correct! Can you guess which part? ?.
05 Nov 2024 13:23:06
Loved wee Rod Wallace.
05 Nov 2024 13:28:30
Guys like Haaland are slightly better, are they mate aye?
05 Nov 2024 14:03:32
Certainly not Morelos anyway he shouldn't be on that list.
05 Nov 2024 14:15:50
Good stats mph.
05 Nov 2024 14:49:03
Loved Wallace as well, SWM.
But it’s McCoist for me. Done it year in, year out.
05 Nov 2024 14:51:47
Aye, he is, Karlo ?
He scores a goal every 4.6 chances which is slightly better than 1 in 5?♂️
But if I remember correctly, Maths wasn’t Coldos strong point and doesn’t seem to have improved despite the numerous name changes?.
05 Nov 2024 15:01:15
Ally got a hatrick against the smellsicks, and a bear.
05 Nov 2024 15:14:10
The things you see on here that crack you up! Seeing Dessers and Haaland together in a stat! Oh dear! ?????
At least storm was there with his usual support. He's a good boy! A good boy I tell you!
05 Nov 2024 15:20:21
The question doesn't mention anything about how long they were at Ibrox, so for me it's Negri, Jim Forrest and McCoist.
05 Nov 2024 15:30:29
I'd agree with you there Halo. Mr potato, Haaland is playing levels above Dessers so there is no way that you can accurately compare stats between them to make a point. Surely you can see that there is no correlation between both to use the term slightly better.
05 Nov 2024 15:54:01
Exactly what I was thinking Sunshine.
05 Nov 2024 16:35:09
Its the sitters that dessers misses though. Big chances. Its the half chances he scores. He drives me insane.
05 Nov 2024 16:58:04
Cheers Storm.
At least you understand where I’m coming from statistically.
05 Nov 2024 18:00:25
Apparently not allowed to say good post anymore ?.
SS I have had more debates on here with MPH than you so strange comment but expected from someone like you.
Negri had a purple patch? Really he had a couple of good seasons before he came to rangers and a few clubs were after him. I blame the lack of knowledge tho ?.
05 Nov 2024 18:24:59
???????.
05 Nov 2024 18:29:58
I see the children are bickering again??.
05 Nov 2024 18:39:09
Super Ally, the heartbreak kid.
Tim's all over us, we get one chance in the 89th minute. Back of the net.
3 points to the famous.
05 Nov 2024 19:08:15
Good post Storm. ?.
05 Nov 2024 19:15:47
Colin Stein and Colin Stein!
05 Nov 2024 21:20:27
Cheers MPH SS has lost his normal sparring partner in Mystar so he must have picked me to be next which I am happy about.
