Does anyone know why Clemment was give an extended contract? I've read about sacking him but in reality Rangers can't afford to do that. Very worrying times.

Baxter boy, no one knows the detail in the contract, for all we know there might be an agreed termination clause based on performance and results .
We will have to wait and see but let’s e honest the day of reckoning is getting closer.

Baxter. I re-read an article in the Scotsman where he and the board are quoted as saying it was to show they are aligned with the future direction of the club. He also had won the League cup and qualified us for last 16 in Europe. whilst we 'threw' the league away that would have still been seen as progress with an underperforming squad before he got there.
you might not agree but someone needed to cut the wage bill and bring in young players that are considered to be good for the team now/ soon and will possibly be worth a fee later. Too early IMO to judge whether that is or will be the case after 8 league games.
re payoff I think the extended contract has grown too big as a consideration i. e. if we do have that limited funding then we wouldn't be able to pay off the 2 years remaining of his contract never mind the extra year. I imagine there would be negotiation to reach an agreement on the pay off unless it is written into the contract, which is another reason I don't think the extra year is as great a potential burden. Others will see differently I know but if you really want to get rid of a a manager they will find the cash. I just don't think given the future direction quote that they will do that. However I've been wrong lots of time before.

I wondered at time has he threatened to walk away due to him looking bad and he blames it on not been given the tools for the job.
Club gave him extension to show him they back him:

He played the same blinder i played with my previous employers
Try to hand in your notice and end up better off financially.
21 Oct 2024 12:02:37
Yes because he came in with a business plan to make the club money.
Unfortunately his technically ability as a coach sucks.
21 Oct 2024 12:16:17
He was given a new extended contract because our board is as much of a shambles as he is!
21 Oct 2024 12:23:18
Because the board and major shareholders see our club rebuild as a major job,
21 Oct 2024 12:25:09
Perhaps they gambled that someone would come in for him and we'd get decent compensation. Looks like we're stuck with him now though.
21 Oct 2024 13:16:32
We have a major rebuild on our hands but the board must question if PC is the right man to take the team forward I'd now say more fans don't think he is and f that's the case PC won't last much longer.
21 Oct 2024 13:21:09
Sirtruth, that's the 1 I'm going for.
21 Oct 2024 13:33:16
Maybe a wee clause in the contract. Just like some on here have a clause, we need to give him 3 transfer windows…. unless we get beat off killie away then sack him.
21 Oct 2024 13:35:30
A idiot read that PC could become the manager of his national side, he then put forward a proposal to the then acting CEO, that they should tie him down by extending his contract. It looks like we are the ones now tied up.
21 Oct 2024 13:46:38
If we can`t afford to sack him why don`t we promote him that's what a lot of businesses do, let him fail upwards.
There are lots of positions available, move Koppen to Director of Football Operations and Clement can be D. O. F Recruitment then we can bring in a manager who is strong enough to look at the players they recommend and judge for himself whether they are any good or not. Just don`t let they two pick the new manager .

Sirstruth I had posted something similar further down the page. I think the board thought that Belgium would want him as manager, So they gave him an extension and it looks like it’s going to backfire.
?????????.

Our biggest issue is our inability to compete with our near neighbours, hence the opportunity not taken yesterday was amplified more. I can get behind the idea of lowering the wage bill and bringing in players with potential. However, I can't get behind the lack of ability to accept that we don't have the players to play to a flawed system, nor do we have many (if any) who have enough personal pride to fight for themselves, teammates or fans. Big Dessers is much aligned but at least he tries as does big Balogun. The rest are imposters picking up big wages for offering very little in return. PC cannot take all the blame but he isn't blameless- platting square pegs in round holes never works. Sadly, we as fans are having to deal with the ever increasing reality that we're second at best and probably years away from turning that around.

Alaw, Belgium were never looking for a manager, only on here also Bennett was not an acting chairman
Great idea Wsl, in Clement own admission he has never signed a player, I said at the time that was concerning,
We need to get a chairman, I’d appoint seo, and mb a dof then they need to decide what happens re manager.
It appears we have shortlisted ceo and dof.
21 Oct 2024 17:33:45
Wsl you want to give clement a position he has no clue about in bringing players.
21 Oct 2024 19:48:15
All good in well reducing the wage bill, but the product on the park is crap, we are not going to move forward until we have a decent team on the park, is that not what our club is meant to be about challenging for the league, having a team that excites the supporters and winning prizes.
Bit of a mess currently.

JOHN The article states that one day pc could become national team manager, John Bennet was the chairman before taking over the role of acting c e o after Bisgrove departed. John Bennet was wearing 2 ties as both chairman of the board, and chief executive officer.
