Good interview from Koppen on RTV. I just feel we'll struggle to keep a hold of him especially when we're hardly giving him any money to work with. Hopefully we can get a decent budget for next summer when he's had 18 months to build targets. Also positive to hear him talking about wanting to work on ways to accelerating our young Scots into the first team.

I feel next season them across the city will have a bigger turnover due to players desperate to move on to bigger leagues especially if they don't progress in Europe this season. That's when we need to strike. Hopefully we can get both cups this season and run them close in the league, anything can happen as we've seen in the past but we've got to be realistic.

Rabbi don't disagree and mention the same story which I read in the Sun. You could look at it that the lack of money makes his job more challenging and more 'fun' to do. He does tend to stay for a few years at places until he is 'poached', 6 years in total at PSV.
We can but hope as he has a success rate at Gent and PSV which we could do with some of at moment. the positive was that they are looking at areas we are weak and discussing what budget they need and is available. that is positive at least.

It’s an uphill battle for him with no cash and no one want to play in our league.

I`m totally the opposite, it was a lot of words without any real content to tell the fans what's happening recruitment wise. Didn`t think that progressing our own young players is under his remit, that's down to the academy to produce them and Clement to decide when they are ready, unless he`s going to go down the Wilson route and sign young players for the B team or even sign young Scots players for the First team squad . We got Barron but ignored Miller, Watson and Cameron, two of which wouldn`t have cost a fortune.
Talk is cheap but but wasting some of the budget we did have on Propper, Diomande and Igamane and loan fees on Cortes and Cerny doesn`t fill me with confidence. Players will only shine and be able to be sold on if they are stand outs in a good team. For all his reputation the only gem we have signed is Barron and we all knew about him anyway, so he`s not impressed so far as far as I am concerned . At least he gave an interview after nearly a year in the job, so that's good.

I think that most or a lot of young players take time in any team and league to play to their potential though. I was looking at Mohammed Kudus at Ajax who scored a lot of goals at Nordsjaelland but in his first 2 seasons in Holland scored 5 goals in the league. In the third he scored 11 which won him his move to West Ham where he is now scoring more freely with the experience he has built up. Time will tell if the budget was wasted. However we are talking about the guy who at PSV unearthed players such as Saibari, Bakayoko, Maehle, Madueke and Babadi. so does he have a better eye for a player than the fans of a club. Instant success is what fans look for form signings and that rarely happens.

12 Oct 2024 14:02:05
Of course it's in his remit. He for one wants the club to be successful and have a Scottish identity. He also wants to have assets that we don't need to spend big on coming through to make money to invest into better players.

It's almost like some fans don't understand the reality of the situation we're in or just get off on being angry or something.

It's his job to identify all types of players both from within to the wider market. He also stated that we needed to look into unknown markets, which we should be doing instead of the old cast offs from England which we have done for many many years now.

These young guys will of course take some time to settle into the league and country and also a team that is struggling for rhythm. Propper was of course brough in for experience but time will tell if that's worth it.

Unfortunately the Cortez deal is a wasted fee due to obligation to buy as he can't stay fit for more than a game or two and I hope he isn't another Roofe or Jacko.

12 Oct 2024 18:32:39
This is another Jesus wept moment for that guy that’s counting.

Wsl are you serious? It’s not under his remit? Of course it is. Do you not understand his job?

How do you know we have ignored these players? Maybe clubs didn’t want to sell them and we aren’t signing miller next window of window after that and so on.

One of you most ridiculous posts on here.

12 Oct 2024 20:42:15
i am sure if cortez is constantly injured there is a get out clause. if not then someone in the contracts department needs sacked.

12 Oct 2024 21:21:53
Angus I think Storm?.

12 Oct 2024 22:03:23
cortes 70% of matches to trigger the obligation to buy.

12 Oct 2024 22:13:28
Angus, the more I read your posts and responses, the more I agree with you buddy. Good to hear someone on hear recognising that sometimes players just take a bit of time and we should be nurturing and supporting them rather than berating them for not being 10 out of 10 instantly every week. Propper was captain at his last club and will come good, diomande and ignore are young African players who will take a bit of time to adapt but show real promise. Koppen is a great signing but we're on a budget so this will take time, please can we just give them a bit of leeway.

12 Oct 2024 23:01:24
Angus it was John that posted that hopefully is true because he ain’t making 70% of our games.

13 Oct 2024 08:09:23
correct Storm sorry I should have possibly said it was John who said it.

13 Oct 2024 09:50:56
Angus, I do know your a new user mate but you'll soon realise this is just the way storm is, see he had a small kick at you yesterday but you dealt with it really well.

13 Oct 2024 11:22:05
A new poster who contributes well, for me Storm was backing up Angus's opinion, by saying that John posted it, and was hoping it was true bud.

13 Oct 2024 12:46:31
Stormtrooper, his job title is Director Of Football Recruitment, so how does that put the Academy development under his remit . The players are developed from there through the grades and then it is up to Clement to start to integrate the best of them into the first team if he thinks they are good enough. When Wilson was in charge he started to look at signing youngsters from other clubs the way EPL clubs do to us, he signed Rice, Lovelace, Stevens, Munn, Graham, Nsio and a couple of others but we have never really done this since. I did say that two out of the three were affordable as I don`t see us paying millions for Miller. The story on here was that we waited until the last minute of the window to bid for Cameron, after Dundee had sold McCowan and therefore didn`t need the money, they asked too much so we walked away.
His signings that he has paid money for, up to now, have not impressed and while Diomande and Igamane are raw and might come good, Propper will not be good enough to start beating the better teams. If we are struggling to be third never mind win the league this season it is the manager who will be held accountable but the lack of support from the board and poor recruitment should not be ignored as a major factor.

Fork, Star and Storm. i'm big enough to handle any digs and kicks (if they are that) and is part of the fun on the forum; you need to have a tough skin. as long as everyone is then happy with me defending my position. I've said before everyone has and is allowed an opinion. they just need to realise that mine is right every time ?; that takes longer.
Storm was right in saying it was John who said it first and tbh I didn't take it as a slight. wasnt trying to claim it was my fact just couldn't be bothered going back through and seeing who it was. most of my stats are taken from somewhere else.

13 Oct 2024 18:13:49
Fork i'm not counting Storms Jesus wept; I guessed the last time as I remembered someone say he would count.
I think Koppen is responsible for signing players on a professional level so after a certain age. The academy age groups below that seems to be coaches and scouts who deal with that from looking at what the classes say on the Rangers sites. so WSL and Storm you are both right in different ways.

13 Oct 2024 19:11:05
My mistake bud thought it was you?.

13 Oct 2024 21:59:45
no problem Fork as I say I think when he last said and and somebody said how many was that I just said 4 so easy to think I was counting.
