Not impressed by the abuse Tav takes from some on here considering his record with our great club over the years, ok he's not now the player he once was but I'm one who is grateful for his contributions over the seasons, my opinion.

Agree8 Disagree0

Agree orygb we need to change the feeling in our club 1 month may be telling and hopefully a better outlook.

08 Sep 2024 18:43:59
Like yourself orygbmb, i'm also grateful for our captain james tavernier's service and loyalty to our great club, over his ten years of service with rangers ??? Whether he's now on the wane within his career or not, the guy doesn't warrant the abuse he's getting with some of our supporters and it's totally out of order and terrible to watch ? It's just showing everyone else, how toxic our supporters can be ??.

Bang on mate.

08 Sep 2024 20:32:22
Dry your eyes mate.

08 Sep 2024 20:47:53
Tav likely isn’t on this site so cool yer jets. Not the player he once was? Are you joking. Rangers captain with a dreadful record of winning trophies. The end.

08 Sep 2024 20:48:41
I think it's just a wider societal issue where guys with low emotional IQ don't know how to deal with things so just get angry at the easiest target. I've seen grown men literally cry with anger at Hampden this season at Dessers for not trapping balls any striker could get.

08 Sep 2024 21:07:57
100%. he’s not the player he was but doesn’t deserve the abuse he’s getting. We are better than that.

08 Sep 2024 21:52:21
Eyes are dry pal, try getting behind the team instead of giving sh**ty comments, your negativity is horrendous mate.

08 Sep 2024 22:09:30
Unfortunately Scotty123,some of our abusive supporters, are not better than that mate ?.

08 Sep 2024 23:19:29
Get behind the team? So we should just all say nothing about a player that's actually making the team worse incase u or someone else start the bleeding hearts a remember mo Johnston having 2 get security everywhere he went he just got on way it he took abuse death threats but our captain can't take a small group of fans shouting at him as a said dry your eyes.

08 Sep 2024 23:21:48
Oh am sure our next captain will have treble after treble.

09 Sep 2024 00:31:18
Maybe not treble after treble think we would be happy with a league title.

09 Sep 2024 06:17:58
Aye OK, just let's all settle for mediocrity, lunacy, so not allowed to criticise a player who is absolutely gash NOW, has been for a while, WAS great, he isn't anymore. No amount of hand wringing at what can be, at times, over the top will change that.

09 Sep 2024 07:51:43
Simple answers is, if you don’t t perform you get in the neck, sure all your wife’s have gave u a dig or 2 .

Let’s face it pc should take Tav out the firing line by know but couldn’t but can now .

His record is 3 trophies from 24 since getting back to the premier league. One more than St Johnstone and 19 less than our biggest rivals. He's led the team during one of Celtic's most dominating periods in history, where they have caught up to our world record trophy haul and will surpass us this season. He's contributed massively to our failings defensively, particularly against Celtic and has seemed untouchable for 5? managers now, when many fans (rightly) question his contribution.

But he scores goals. That well known worldwide requirement in a right back in successful teams. If I think really hard I can name, oh, zero other successful teams where the right back contributes so much in an attacking sense. Not one. Because Tav is the outlier and that's why he still plays for Rangers.

Defenders are there to stop the other team scoring first and foremost, something James has always been poor at and has gotten worse at over the last 2 seasons. They're not there to score goals and take penalties.

I'm fortunate enough to have seen some great Rangers captains and some very good right backs. Proper leaders of men during both successful and difficult times. Many fans (like me) get frustrated because Tavernier isn't close to any of them.

A solid enough professional who is well worth the fee we paid for him, but to be Rangers captain and first choice right back at this stage, when the entire league is targeting him as our weak link and we can all see it (mainly because if we were in the other dugout we'd do exactly the same! ) isn't good for him or us.

He shouldn't be in our strongest 11. If he is, then it shows how far our strongest 11 are from them. He shouldn't be captain, but in his defence on this one we've not got a proper captain anywhere in that squad either.

Sentimentality in football holds you back.
And a player who is underperforming in his actual role within the team, never mind what he is no longer offering at the other end is a double liability.

09 Sep 2024 09:59:25
The fact its being label as "abuse" is rather pathetic and shows how soft people have become.

Sticks and stones and all that jazz.

Fair enough if its racial then stamp that out but getting called a loser when all you have done is lose. man up!

09 Sep 2024 12:13:54
gdog55 that's the teams record, not a single player . Back when the financial playing field was more level, John Greig led Rangers during a period when we went 9 years in a row without winning the league and four years without any trophy at all. Was that his fault, because he was captain, should he have had the captaincy stripped from him, should he have been sold . Of course not, without him, things would have been worse but it takes more than one man to turn things around . Its a team game.

09 Sep 2024 14:14:56
thanks @wslgers, that's the best laugh I've had for a while comparing Tav to John Greig. Outside of that, you're having an argument with yourself about points no-one made.
