Just a question for debate and I know it's Celtic but it's relevant to us too

I'll be honest I'm not sure I have all the dates correct I don't have the best of memory at times ?
But here goes

When Celtic imploded under Lennon was Ange starting with a solid base yes or no?
Think they had 12 players leave and added 10 new that summer?

What about Rodgers when he first came did he have a solid base in around 2016?

How about w Jansen in what was it season 97/ 98 did he have a solid base?

Prob shouldn't be included but Ronnie diala 2014 granted never had to compete with much

What's the thing all these managers have in common?

It's their recruitment that sets them apart from ours finding diamonds in the rough players who make a difference players they can find in the cheap and sell big

If anything we need to do it's our recruitment seriously needs ripped up and have it looked at properly the amount t we spend on players over the past good few years and we're not talking pennies here folks it in the millions 3 million their 4 million theirs but yet to see these million pound players make a real difference let's hope Bajrami will be one of them
But I don't care why anyone says we have wasted a lot of money hence why we're cutting wage budgets and pulled back on spending big on players

Seriously guys what can we really do about recruitment is Koppen going to be the difference this time around?

Don't just jump in think about it seriously look at our past 3 - 4 or 5 summers with transfers anyone know how much total we have spent and tell me what massive difference these players have made and how much profit have we made

Let's have a real grown up debate on recruitment it's where we fall short compared to them out with their 7 and 8 and 11 million pound signings
They have done it for years on small outlays and managed to return a profit and a player who can make a difference.

Agree3 Disagree0

Can’t really comment about O’Neill or Jansen but Rodgers took over when they were still miles ahead of us so don’t really think that’s comparable.

Ange is the one really but he spent a good chunk of money to get the team to where it needed to be. The one standout from ange was that from minute 1 they had an identity and it took him 2 windows to get the players to fit that identity then they never looked back. Clement’s team doesn’t have an identity which is a big concern considering he’s been here for a good part of a year now. I can accept a rebuild and things will take time but we need to see signs of progress to remain on board with it.

think we need to give Koppen a chance as he had great success at PSV and even before that to get that move.
PC has played the same formation since he came and style similar although it seems to have changed slightly this season as he gets the players to play it better. never sure what people mean when they say they see no identity. what are they looking for; perhaps you just don't see the style he is using.

David ange was good in Japan market and they are still bearing those fruits today with Kyogo and hatate.

Those Japanese players killed us in Ange's first season.

100% storm there’s no doubt about it but he still had levels of money that Clement didn’t. I distinctly remember Celtic fans banging on about how good the football was from early on despite the results not being great and if you look at the team he had to begin with it’s no better than what we have now.

Remember celtic have had a lot of bad recruits too. 5m on Nawrocki, Lagerbielke, Barkas to name a few. Yes they hit the jackpot under Ange with his knowledge of Japan. Throw in Oriley, Juranovic etc they did this pretty much in one window and had the money to do it.

We don't and that's the big difference, so it will naturally take a bit longer. We don't know yet if this summers recruitment will be good or bad but i definitely think we had to step away from the previous methods. there's still quite a few we need to leave before we can replace them but its going to take time. i'm pretty calm about that and we are now seeing some of our own youth playing which people wanted too you can't have it all ways.

Most managers seem to know a couple of decent players in their homelands but PC hasn't brought any in. Raskins was a Beale signing I'm sure.

Think your right Dado they have had some howlers like us but think they have done significantly better with the bigger transfers though not all, but they can take the hit as you say when they don’t work out.

And when they sell they are patient and wait till the price is met and they don’t panic, they also tend to know the right time to offload players, all that points to having a better structure in place.

I mean in the last few years we have been scouring the lower leagues in England for l prospects, apart from dare I say it Tav and Aribo not many, how was O, Reilly missed? Timing, luck? who knows, he cost 1.5 million not a fee that we couldn’t pay.
It’s a good point though think in total they brought over about six Japanese players with only three being regulars, and good players by the way.
They are financially stronger and cope better with the poor signings.

Celtic knew when to sell ie when stock was at its highest no matter how much the manager or fans disliked it. Morelos should have went under SG but he insisted on keeping him, same as Kent and indeed Tav. it hurts and you can't sell all at same time but as celtic always do they move on at least 1 key player every year netting a great profit and return for them. we just don't and we need to start doing it. ofcourse we need to find sellable players in the first place.

Ur right Storm but I suppose the point is about overall recruitment, they have brought over I think six in total Japanese players, there is the obvious three but the others haven’t really worked out, add to that think it’s Jun, Korean I think who hasn’t held down a regular spot either.

Stig - they had money, we don’t.

Rodgers in his 1st spell has a rangers coming back into the league with a squad nowhere good enough and little money to overhaul its had less pressure Ange was given over 20m to spend and still had players like Eduard and Christie he used before both left later and they got lucky in that he had knowledge of players like kyogo or hatate or maeda who are still there main men now so I'd say the names u mention had a solid base to build on and Rodgers 2nd time he took on a team who'd just won the treble and gave a few quid to spend. Money matters the more you have the better chance of being successful.
