So the whole Hagi debate is raging on, some folk thinking he should be in the first team etc. The facts are we have clearly been reluctant since last season to have him play that extra game and increase his wages, and that’s not surprising. He has always been a ‘decent’ player and no more. Other than the year we won the league he hasn’t really offered much as a player, certainly not enough to have him earning £30k a week and being almost our highest earner. Clearly we have been happy to have him leave since last year. We sent him on loan to put him in the shop window but unfortunately he was very poor in Spain and hardly played. The club told him and his agent at the end of the season to basically’find another club’, as clearly we are not prepared to have him earning £30k a week. You could tell last week when Clement talked about his situation that he wasn’t overly happy. He seemed to be saying ‘ we told his people months ago to find him a new club and they haven’t and it’s basically holding us up from bringing in someone new’.
Yes Hagi might be happy to stay but probably because he’s not going to get paid £30k anywhere else he goes. There seems no way back for him and the quicker he finds himself a new club the better it will be for all parties.

Does anyone else think it is not only wrong, but embarrassing that we are refusing to honour the contract by not playing him just to avoid paying the extra 8k or whatever.
He was given a contract by the club so he deserves to have that honoured.

Good post Gers78.

Can't blame the player for the club having cold feet on a contract clause which they agreed to.

13 Aug 2024 13:21:40
Spot on mate.

13 Aug 2024 13:22:39
The other thing folk are forgetting when they say play him, and if it’s true that it activates a clause that ups his wages, means that it will be even more difficult to shift him because other teams won’t match even higher wages.

13 Aug 2024 13:29:32
Maybe no body wants to pay him what he earns right now before any potential wage increase.

13 Aug 2024 13:48:39
If it wasn’t for his dad he would not have got this far - very average - 30k a week no chance he’s worth that - need his dad to pull a few strings and open another door for him ??????.

13 Aug 2024 13:52:01
The clown that gave him the deal has gone! We can’t even consider giving him an increase as it’s make it more difficult to sell him as any interested clubs would need to equal it . He’s been told his future is away from Ibrox … that’s the end of the matter.

First of all, good luck to our boys tonight! We must win!

As for the Hagi's saga, I do not believe this is true. Ianis is the upmost professional and all he wants is to play and contribute to the success of the team. Even if the story with his wage increase is true, he would rather play and it would not be difficult for Rangers to re-negotiate his contract.

Let's face it, nobody wins in this situation, neither Hagi nor Rangers. Not only the team loses a creative midfielder, but the image it projects to future potential players is not professional. And, of course, Ianis would prefer to play than hide in the B team cashing his cheque.

I don’t understand the frenzy to have him back in the squad no manger he’s worked under including loans have seen him as a regular starter! Boy clearly has some talent but not every manger can be wrong.

13 Aug 2024 14:32:49
StevieG2, why does he deserve to have it honoured? What has Hagi actually done to 1) Be on 22k a week 2) be given an 8k wage raise

We are shifting away from overpaying absolute duds, and yet we've got fans still arguing for paying bang average players 30k a week. Mental.

13 Aug 2024 14:39:51
Why should we pay an extra 8k a week for someone who’s going to be one of our highest paid players and not even guaranteed a start. Not for me thanks.

Think really it’s only partly to do with the wages increase. I think overall Clement just doesn’t see him fitting into what he is looking to do with the team, and on that basis he’s certainly not worth remaining as a bit part player on wages well outwith our ‘new wage structure’ and being paid substantially more than the majority of the rest of the team. Clearly discussions were had in May with the club and Hagi and his representatives where it was agreed he would find a new club. Hagi must of been happy with that at the time. Now it looks like no club that he wants to go to (or are willing to pay similar wages) has made an approach and therefore Hagi may of ‘changed his mind’ and wants to stay, Clement and Rangers however have not changed their minds. So as I say, best his agent starts doing their job and finding him somewhere he does want to go. (I’m guessing the closer it gets to the end of the window, he’ll end up finding a move) .

I think it’s a shocking way to treat anyone! If it is down to his contract you need to honour it. Poor from rangers and it’s not sending a good message to other players, would create a hostile work environment in any other place of work?
Seems to be a lot going on in the background and it’s now rubbing off on the pitch.

13 Aug 2024 15:45:04
Club are honoring his contract, still paying his wages, the issue is club do not believe he justifies wage rise. Probably written into his contract as we thought he would be asset in future . Not a wasted wage at present. Also fact he has apparently requested move.

13 Aug 2024 15:52:50
What if the club simply asked Hagi, in order to stay and play, t waive the wage rise and stay on current salary. ? Is that too much like common sense?

13 Aug 2024 16:04:25
His name is mentioned here every day by some, and whether you like him as a player or think he should be in the team the fact remains we told him to find a club last year and that remains regardless of the clause, he does not feature in our recent past or future with us, the fact he hasn’t signed for another club after being in the shop window for a year tells you also that clubs are not clambering for his signature.
I hope for my sanity that he finds a club soon, the best solution for him and our club.

13 Aug 2024 16:23:53
Why would we give him an almost 40% pay increase, there must have been conversations with his management team, possibly they thought the offers would flood in so have been playing hard ball. He’s not worth his current salary, we must move him on.

13 Aug 2024 16:26:14
Stevie he and his agent have already met rangers and declined foregoing pay rise.

13 Aug 2024 17:27:09
That’s not good John. I agree 30k is too much for him if we’re trying to cut the wage bill, can’t sign players on 10k while peers are on 30k.
I firmly believe he’s best no 10 at the club, I know some don’t. We’re going to need to rethink this as there’s no point having him in the b team on 22k a week. I think we need to play him if the window shuts and he’s still here. Thing is if we get rid of Lawrence or dowell instead them the freed wages would cover Hagi 8k.
