If we buy Millar from Motherwell for £4m at 17 and give him a 5 year deal. His contract would end at age 22. Could he be snapped up on the cheap for a development fee by a premiership team? If so would that strategy not be a bit foolish?

Yes he could.
07 Aug 2024 20:46:46
We won't be paying 4 mill for miller.

Make him sign a 7 year deal then like Chelsea are doing? Problem solved.
Or give him 5 year deal with incentives for wage rises and extensions every season he meets targets this always having him tied down as he progresses and wants a bigger wage. Win win for all.

If he’s still here after 5 years then you can deem him a failure. With his ability and the exposure rangers can give him we would be lucky to keep the lad past his teens.

£4 million for a 17 year old from Motherwell? I know transfer fees these days are inflated but come on.
He's worth nowhere near that.

Boy ain’t going to sign a 7 year deal
Make him sign it?
08 aug 2024 05:03:24
this is exactly why we won’t pay 4 million and give him a 4 year deal, stevie, we can’t “ make “ anyone sign anything, there will either be a 5 yr deal with an option, or no deal at all.

Stevie how dos your idea of forcing miller to sign a 7 year deal with the new fifa and uefa rules of deals being a maximum of 5 years.
08 Aug 2024 08:22:26
John chelsea just signed omorodion for 35mill 7 year deal.
08 Aug 2024 10:39:44
Well John I can assure u Chelsea just signed someone on a 7 year deal the other day mate so I’d be doing the same as them.
I’m not clued up on these type of rules from fifa John as I doubt most on here are bro.
I do appreciate it likely is going to be the case as u are always knowledgeable on things like this amongst many others.
But if Chelsea can sign omorodiom on a huge 8 year contract why can’t we sign someone on a 7 year one?
Maybe it’s due to his age and if so I bow to your knowledge but that’s where I’m coming from mate.
The other thing lads is, he s17 he’s not going to be in a very big wage. So as he progresses we will have to give him wage rises to keep him in line with his peers and when we do that he’ll be extending his contract each time.
People making big deals out of crazy points,
So to be Clear? We shouldn’t sign the boy cause if he signs a 5 year deal he can leave for nothing at the end of it? Same as any other player then? Madness.
{Ed001's Note - they aren't actually 7 year deals, they are 5 year deals with an option for 2 more years. That is the maximum allowed. I think John might be getting mixed up though, what UEFA reduced to 5 years was the maximum allowable period for a transfer to be amortised on the books for PSR. Up until then, the player's book value was counted over the term of their initial contract. Chelsea were giving out these idiotic long contracts to amortise the deals over the entire length of the contract. It doesn't work, because it reduces the need for a young player to have to try, as he has an extremely length, well-paid deal in his pocket. It also makes it damn near impossible to sell them when they don't work out, which is why they are reduced to selling two of their better players from last season and having to stick with the overpaid dross they bought.}

Storm. Tom, I think u get ma point, if using the word make is wrong then swap the word for one which is more suited. But if we’re spending that on him at that age and he’s desperate to come then u make the deal happen.
My preference would be 5 year deal which included in the deal is his wages will rise but so will his length of contract along with it. Each time he gets a wage rise his contract extends. Makes a lot of sense to me but maybe I’m daft for having common sense?
C’mon guys? lol.

Thanks for explaining Ed.
There’s always a way to get a deal done if u really want it and so does the player.
