Tav is staying - back the player as he is our captain . he wants trophies badly and will get them. no one complained when he was bursting the net countless times and a lot of them were winners domestic and Europe. the new centre half will take some heat off him and the new winger cerva will also bring something to his defensive game. let's go .

Agree9 Disagree0

I'll back any1 who wears the rangers top, but tav defensively is poor and we must bear that in mind.

01 Aug 2024 11:59:07
He’s been backed mate but he’s not the same player. 2 yards too slow now and if we need forward we have to move him on. Yes he’s been fantastic at times and scored some great goals but his ship has sailed for me.

01 Aug 2024 12:00:44
I'd be happy with him staying under a new wage structure. Can't be fair if everyone is being paid a third of his wage. Same for dessers or any other high earners.

01 Aug 2024 12:19:43
Maeda will have his fingers crossed that Tav will be playing against him this upcoming season.

That's the sad truth of the matter.

01 Aug 2024 12:34:29
He’s been missing a covering CDM since Jack (and he’s getting slower) , Sterling as a sitting midfielder would do this naturally for both attacking fullbacks.

01 Aug 2024 12:36:24
Well of course he wasnt getting stick when he was scoring goals and winning games LOL

But he's not the same player he was and its obvious that his time is up.

Even then he has had some stick for his poor defending even when he was scoring.

Love Tav but his time is up and he should be looking to move on for the sake of his "legacy".

01 Aug 2024 12:38:52
God help us if Tav stays and continues to play. We all know he's been terrific but its plain to see he's not the same player . Time to upgrade.

01 Aug 2024 12:38:54
If he stays he won’t play as much as he has before. Consistently played over 50 games a season for us. Ideally Sterling stays fit and can rotate. Also think you might see Sterling play in the bigger games too agaisnt Celtic and in Europe to cope with the pace in behind.

01 Aug 2024 12:51:44
Hi Deecee, I like Tav as a person and for what he has done over the past 9 years, but, other players have moved on because of his ineptitude causing them to be heavily criticised, Connor Goldson and John Lundstrum to name 2. We can no longer justify his wage or his shortfalls as a Captain, as I say my post is purely from a business standpoint and is not meant to be personal, over to PC on this one, I hope he makes the correct decision for his own sake and ours.

01 Aug 2024 12:53:18
I don't agree with most fans, that tav is that bad a defender, but you know there is a however coming. His main prob is he gets caught up field and hasn't got the pace or right sided mid that has the savy to slot in. Against better teams, they exploit this, resulting in our back line having to shuffle over one to cover, leaving our left side exposed. Against union was a prime example, where jefte was exposed as he had to move in one. How many goals have celtic scored with a cross coming in from tav side and a player popping up on our exposed left.

What should happen imo is rain him in esp in big games with pacy wingers. Signing a prop no 6 will also help. It no coincdence that tav best performences where when Ryan
jack was full fit and playing as he had the savy to slot in or drop back to cover or right ch going out.

01 Aug 2024 12:53:32
Maybe we need to set up to give him cover the way S. G used to but that can`t happen in our current system . The manager won`t change but 4-3-3 is the system that wins titles in Scotland and that would give us a right midfielder to fill in for Tav when he attacks. His stats are better than any winger we have so he should be encouraged to be an asset not slaughtered when he gets caught out of position.

01 Aug 2024 12:56:14
Why do we need to set up team to cover for tavs lack of ability to defend has had 9 years to improve but going downhill rapidly, I know no one with money to meet our asking price rate him. Would it not be better if we could find common ground in which he could leave better for him and club, this can only end on sad note, asPC has stated will not start every game is he going to be happy not playing, can see him starting against celtic if PC has any sense .

01 Aug 2024 12:58:45
If he plays every week and remains captain, we'll be having this discussion again next year.

I do particularly love the "missing a defensive midfielder to cover him" patter. Like a defensive midfielder is anything to do with the plethora of individual mistakes Tav makes which cost us goals.

I'd love to know what a defensive midfielder is supposed to do about not being able to deal with a ball over his head or his long standing inability to stop a cross, but hey ho, that's just me.

Great servant to the club, nice guy, well got our money's worth out of the transfer fee. I wouldn't mind him staying as backup to a right back who can defend and if he weren't captain. But I'd prefer he moved on, for both our and his sake. He's in real danger of overstaying his legacy and finding more and more fans coming to the realisation he's part of our problem, not part of the solution.

01 Aug 2024 12:59:18
55 rangers would you take a pay cut if your work hired more people on less money than you course you wouldn't not his fault the club agreed to pay him that much and as the captain he should be highest paid in the team.

01 Aug 2024 13:06:43
The problem with Tav he comes out and says this crap every year. He comes out and says the same thing every old firm defeat “ we will learn” it’s his time to go. I was looking forward to start of season but not now. The guy can’t defend. Thanks for the goals but time to move on we will not win the league with him at right back this season. We may not win anyway.

01 Aug 2024 13:20:10
I wrote a big message now deleted it.

He can’t be a starter needs moved on.

01 Aug 2024 13:36:33
Great post gdog ?.

01 Aug 2024 13:56:01
Why a lot of us including myself thought we were going to get a few million on a defender that simply can't defend, was a bit nieve to say the least. He will get our support, but he is the club captain and now the highest paid player at our club, so I'm afraid that our hungry fan base won't be so forgiving this year with constant daft mistakes, rightly so imo. Any player at our club walking away with a wage like that, needs to be very good at what they do, both attacking and defending.

01 Aug 2024 14:07:16
Souttar, Davies, Goldson all terrible last season, especially Souttar, made countless individual errors and got nowhere near the level of abuse Tav has. The only job they have is to defend. Tav has been bombin up and down a wing, the most demandin role on a football pitch, filling the positions of a RW and a RB at this club for 50+ games a season for 9 years because the club failed to buy a proper RW to support him. Fairly obvious certain sections of this fanbase just have their favourites and their scapegoats. Youse literally give Tav more abuse than any Celtic fan ever has. Some support eh ??.

01 Aug 2024 14:38:37
Tav should have taken the hint and looked for a new club, he’s been a great signing but time has caught up with him . Our biggest rivals have identified him and will continue to exploit his obvious weaknesses, the fans expected him to move on if he doesn’t he will be under intense scrutiny and it could turn ugly .

01 Aug 2024 14:43:59
He's our captain and wants to win trophies! He's been with us how long as captain? Won 3 trophies, choked it in countless old firm games, semis and finals, threw away the league last season - fair enough it's not all his fault but as a captain he obviously can't inspire his team to raise there game when it's needed - just my opinion but I'm all for the younger hungrier Sterling getting on at RB.

01 Aug 2024 14:45:46
So having an opinion on a player equals abuse?

01 Aug 2024 15:26:04
Stewartyblue, instead of blaming a right midfielder, what if Tav actually had the savy to not get caught up field?

01 Aug 2024 15:39:48
That's the whole point coisty celtic fans will never abuse tav, they absolutely love him mate, why wouldn't they?

01 Aug 2024 15:50:09
Absolutely no f in way he should start he's done.

{Ed001's Note - you could put a fork in him then?}

01 Aug 2024 16:36:24
I can’t believe some fans are still happy with Tav. See if he can’t bomb up and down anymore (he never could) he doesn’t even try he trots back and has done for years then just don’t bomb forward. I would hope every player in the team wants to win trophies

01 Aug 2024 16:46:15
Boy blue you’re havin a laugh to suggest Tav hasn’t been abused by our support. It’s one thing wanting someone to move on but the way we’ve treated someone who has given so much to the club and endured so much is a joke. He was booed in preseason . It’s a personal vendetta by some who hold him solely responsible for our failures without consideration for the fact that the squad around him simply hasn’t been good enough. Recruitment has been terrible along with some shocking managerial appointments that set us back 2-3 years at a time. Souttar is an abysmal defender who has had a mistake in him his entire career and has been poor since he arrived, was responsible for more goals than anyone last season. maybe you could explain why there’s pressure to force Tav out of the club ahead of guys like him who contribute nothing? Think it’s time Tav does move on for his own sake.

01 Aug 2024 17:53:43
It’s going to get worse Coisty because he isn’t good enough.

01 Aug 2024 20:34:29
ED 001 your already on a shaky nail after siding with that rabble yesterday????.

{Ed001's Note - I was just trying to help!}

01 Aug 2024 20:48:53
Lol?.

01 Aug 2024 22:32:59
Oh well Fork, if Mr Ed says it, I believe him, straight from the horses mouth pal.
