A statement John made on another post has really got me thinking.
I attended The Greatest Ranger Dinner on Sunday 21st March 1999 at The Thistle Hotel Glasgow.
All the players present at the time and most of the past players attended.
They picked the Greatest ever team 1 to 11 and Greatest ever Ranger which of course was John Greg.
How would Tav fair in the Right back position.
Obviously Sandy Jardine, Gary Steven's,
David Robertson and Allan Hutton all superb right backs but let's be positive about Tav as he looks like leaving our wonderful club.
Where does he come in the list and how would he have fared if he had played in the great teams of the 90s.
I agree that now is a good time for Tav to move on but let's think on his contributions to our club over his time with us.

He wouldn’t have got near our team back in the day.

19 Jul 2024 21:27:35
He'd be below all the above except Hutton, Robertson was a left back as well but tav if he goes ty for all the memories but rangers need move on and so does tav.

19 Jul 2024 21:28:02
Sorry by can't remember Robertson playing at right back even once.

19 Jul 2024 21:28:46
Davie robertson was a left back CO2?The best right back imo in a rangers jersey was gary stevens hands down for me ???.

19 Jul 2024 22:07:18
Alec cleland is in there for me anaw way porrini but Hutton was one ae the best right backs in the world for me for a couple seasons.

19 Jul 2024 22:17:43
Do we think most top ten right and left backs in the history of football are noted for their defeding or attacking. can't remember a sinlge tackle roberot carlos made but I do rememeber his goal.

19 Jul 2024 22:29:45
Wit lyk maldini Neville or walker the renowned goal scorers?

19 Jul 2024 22:40:24
Stand corrected, David Robertson left back.

19 Jul 2024 22:56:47
Agreed coops without a shadow of a doubt best right back I have seen.

19 Jul 2024 23:53:28
Short memories on here, Tavs record is tremendous ok getting on a bit and slowing down now but why are we ignoring his record over the years he slogged to get us back to where we belong and scored very Important goals. I do think he should go now as not the player he was but get a grip the guy has been a phenomenal player for us and I wish him all the best for the futere.

Gary Stevens was a work of Art! World Class!

20 Jul 2024 01:43:59
Gary Stevens could of played for any team in the world, the original modern fullback.

20 Jul 2024 06:44:36
Stormtrooper1
Scot Nisbet got near our team so I think Tav would have also,
Playing alongside defenders like Richard Gough, I think you see a different Tav.

20 Jul 2024 07:13:43
Co2 the problem is a good rangers team wouldn’t feature tavernier so I don’t think if they were around playing at the same time you’d see tavernier and Gough in the same team for example.

20 Jul 2024 07:14:57
Agree with all posts about Gary Stevens, but for me it would be Sandy in Royal Blue.

20 Jul 2024 07:45:14
Agree re Gary stevens coopers

Orgy you r saying what I and many others r sasaying time to go,

20 Jul 2024 08:03:54
Big nizzy, what a guy, still some goal against Boavista if I mind right?.

20 Jul 2024 08:56:25
Think it was FC Bruges, Fork. Were we not playing with 10 men after big Hateley got sent off, controversially I think?

20 Jul 2024 10:27:09
Almost got to champ league final without McCoist an Hately playing together much in group stage if I remember right, Ian Ferguson, Stuart McCall centre mid a big Shirley playing out his skin at back, if ever the word no surrender was ever known for our team it was that year.

20 Jul 2024 10:41:50
Gary Steven’s was a great player in a really successful period for us, easy to look back fondly on those days. Tavernier has played in a really unsuccessful period for us and we are all sick to the back teeth with it so this clouds our judgement. Its time for him to go because sentiment should play no part in football decisions his best days are now behind him and this will be our only chance to get a few quid for him so of course we take it. As an attacking right back signed for 250k one of the best buys ever and I think peoples opinions will Change over time . I wish him well wherever he goes.
