James Tavernier joined Rangers in 2015 when we weren't even in the SPL.
In his time, he has been fit most of his career, broke scoring records, was the captain who stopped 9 and captained us to a Europa final, scoring important goals throughout
He's been an example to many, young and old.
He's been proper servant to this famous club, in its darkest times when its felt more like a circus than a football club at times
Put some respect on this man's name.

So you're satisfied with 1 title and a Europa final in 9 years? Is that what qualifies a captain as an example to many? You must've been born in the last 15 years as it's certainly not good enough for me.

I’m not sure that Tavernier can be entirely blamed for our lack of silverware over the last decade. In my opinion there are a few other factors involved.
19 Jul 2024 04:24:21
Tavs been one player in those years.
If everyone chipped in the same effort and return as he has we’d have been a far more successful team.
19 Jul 2024 05:15:33
No one said they were satisfied by 1 title. That’s not Taverniers fault. There’s 10 more players on the pitch and we’ve had multiple managers since. Respect man. Respect.
19 Jul 2024 06:45:52
What is wrong with people saying it’s time to go? No one has been disrespectful no one saying he is honking.
19 Jul 2024 07:35:34
SirWalterMcCoist, replace tavernier with any rangers captain or any captain in football history and it doesn't change anything.
He's not the perfect but he's certainly not been the worst player we've had.
Maybe direct your anger at the board who have had ample opportunity to make a success here but have put us back years.
19 Jul 2024 07:36:38
SRD, very much so but his time is up, i wish him well in the rest of his career, he's simply not good enough for Rangers fc now.
19 Jul 2024 07:46:59
Souness or Butcher as captain would not have won any more trophies during tav’s time at rangers - those guys at least had proper players around them - reality is we have been behind since we were papped down the leagues - warburton caxena Beale and some of the crap players they brought to our club - tav has been a great servant and player and deserves respect and should not be blamed for our poor trophy haul - but yes at his age and wage it is time to make changes that will benefit club moving forward as his value will only go down further an further along with his pace - Sterling is a ready made replacement but respect for Tav please ??????.
19 Jul 2024 07:49:32
Absolutely spot on ToddTheProd13?Is that so hard to understand Sirwaltermccoist ? Imagine tav playing with a good rangers team and better players in his 9 about to be 10th season at rangers ? he'd have been lauded from the heavens ???.
19 Jul 2024 07:57:59
Good post SDR,
Yes, it’s the correct time for Tav to move on but I can’t believe some appear to be actively celebrating that the model pro and outstanding player not to mention record breaker is moving on.
Embarrassing how some appear to be actively celebrating and a bit disrespectful.
19 Jul 2024 08:01:10
Storm, there's absolutely nothing wrong with fellow posters having an opinion on saying they think it's time for tav to go but it's the personal stuff that's said about him that's bang out of order IMO ? Don't try and tell me some of the insults with some on here regarding tav haven't happened storm, because they most definitely have ?.
19 Jul 2024 08:25:54
We've had to listen to you bleating Walter for months, problem is he's been done for a while and you can't face it, yes people can be over the top, I've prob been guilty of it, but not once have I said he wasn't a great servant for our club, he was but that's in the past, you want him to stay then your happy to accept the same problems his targeted area will cause, teams know he's done, would you want him to besmirch a great reputation, I think not, its an opinion site people are entitled to say what they think, whether that's close to the knuckle or not, it's there choice.
19 Jul 2024 08:46:28
Yet it’s ok to insult McLaughlin.
19 Jul 2024 09:02:03
Spot on John??.
19 Jul 2024 09:04:44
Didn't you go in huff the other week because folk made jokes about Dessers?
19 Jul 2024 09:05:28
Fork, you are right about teams targeting his side of the park, its been our achilles heel with him and goldson for the last two years, it has to stop, time to move on.

Tavernier has been a good servant to the club, well worth the £250k and some that we paid for him. I've never been his biggest fan as a player, mainly because I was a CB (not claiming to be a good one! ) and I think that the ability to defend is important for a right back. I see him doing things that would make me hate playing beside him, from a defensive perspective.
His attacking attributes have (for me at least) never been in question and even if we take out the penalties his goal and assist return for a right back is phenomenal. The reality is though, if he could defend as well he would have been nowhere near Rangers.
I also think he's a decent guy. When he speaks he speaks well, he comes across genuinely and those I know who have interacted with him personally say he's just a decent, down to earth bloke not caught up in the "status" of of being a professional footballer. He also gets huge credit in my book for that.
As a player I could overlook his defensive frailty most of the time because of the offensive trade off. But I do honestly think that frailty has cost us competitions we could have won. Others have certainly contributed. He and Goldson cost us the Europa final IMO by letting the cross in too easily, an all too common occurrence, and not defending the front post properly for example. These two (along with Barasic) have also cost us against Celtic many, many times. Tav has always been poor defensively IMO, not just over the last 2 seasons.
The other gripe I've always had with him is that I don't think he's a Captain. I'll admit this is entirely subjective based on what we see on the field, we don't see the behind the scenes, but on the field he doesn't exude the air of someone that I would follow as a player. In the big games he has so much to do concentrating on his own frailties that he has no spare capacity to lead others, in my view. Captains don't have to be perfect, but they have to be good enough at their own job (all of their job) that they're mostly above question. Tav has never been that for me. If he were just our right back, not the captain, I probably would have been less critical of him overall, but I think that armband carries an additional expectation and one, again just in my opinion, that needs a better player carrying it.
The reality though, in Tav's defence, is that we haven't had a captain for a long time. The closest, really, since Weir was Davis. Quiet and unassuming, yes, but everything he did was done with authority and there wasn't a huge weakness in his game the same as Tav. He's a player people would follow and who could be counted on when the chips were down.
Overall I think it's certainly time for him to go. I have no concerns about replacing his goals and assists, simply because in successful teams the world over his goals and assists are the outlier. There's no other team winning trophies who either get, or need that contribution from their fullbacks. And, as above, I think a lot of his attacking contribution is cancelled out by the goals his defensive frailty cost us, especially in big games (like Celtic at Ibrox, 3-3).
He will go with my best wishes and thanks for his efforts. He's certainly more than paid his transfer fee, many times over and another thing that is to his immense credit is he's never hidden when times were hard, he has always been available when others found reasons not to be. He always gives his all, never hides.
But for me, I think we need better to consistently win trophies and to overthrow Celtic as the (clearly) best team in the country. As I've said on here before: attackers win games, defenders win championships.
19 Jul 2024 09:23:30
Nope, if you're referring to me 442, I like the big guy, yes, but we need better. If he stays and kicks on gd, if not, we move on,
Correct Scotty??.
19 Jul 2024 09:26:09
Sir Walter maybe tavernier wouldn’t get in a good rangers team, just a thought ?.
19 Jul 2024 10:19:57
Coops how can you get angry at that when you have done it to other players?
I was meaning since the news broke on here it’s not been disrespectful.
If Tav stays the fans are going to get toxic towards him IMO.
19 Jul 2024 10:30:19
442 = Coldo fork so he was probably having a pop at John.
19 Jul 2024 10:32:06
Imo if tav stays he would be in danger of tarnishing his legacy.
19 Jul 2024 10:39:50
Cheers G4 ??.
19 Jul 2024 10:55:25
I agree with John on this but a properly structured team would have had the cover in midfield and central defence to cover for Tav when he goes on his marauding runs up field. Our central defence isn't fit for purpose and short of a couple of top quality centre backs being signed it will be the same next season.
19 Jul 2024 11:14:40
Coldo is back from under his rock 442 ? least it’s not a tim name this time.
