Use our rumours form to send us rangers transfer rumours.

Lots of folk on here that regularly criticise our captain Tav lack of defensive qualities but pretty good going forward.

I know of a similar player who plays on the left - great going forward with a wicked cross but has been a bit suspect at times in defence.

One has been very consistent since he arrived, has played almost every game, has amazing stats but has made a couple of errors that cost us.

The other hasn't played as many games, has made more mistakes, has been inconsistent since he arrived (until recently) but is a Croatian international.

Don't understand why Tav gets all the stick.

04 Jan 2020 22:13:43
Tav gets all the stick because he constantly flogs all the goals. He had an absolutely shocking start to the season. His penalties covered his mistakes last season but they have dried up this season.

04 Jan 2020 22:30:42
I think both our full backs james tavernier and borna barisic are fantastic full backs and very important in the way gerrard wants rangers to play. I do however agree to an extent with DK19,as tav gets far too much stick from some of our supporters. I've said before and i'll say again, some won't realise how much tav offers our team, 'till he's no longer here! Some of our supporters have tav CONTINUALLY as the whipping boy and are way too hard on him! He had a poor spell of form a few weeks back, but again has now found his form and came back like the terrific footballer he is.
Don't take my word for it tav doubters, trust our manager and he rates tav highly and loves the guy.
What an athlete tav is, into the bargain!

04 Jan 2020 22:34:36
And Barasic? Couldn’t nail down a place, many errors for goals but now he is golden balls?

Some players are forgiven their errors and form dips but others not?

Wonder where the bias lies?

05 Jan 2020 00:06:41
Are you Tav in disguise? 😂

Borna is twice the player, let’s be real.

05 Jan 2020 00:26:56
Tav will be always have a place in my heart. He was one of my sons favorite players when he started watching the Gers and has grown up with him. When I see or hear of Tav in years to come it will always remind me of my lad going to his first game adorned in a full Rangers strip and then my wife giving me a brass neck running across the road and stopping his Range Rover for a photo, which he duly obliged. I will post it if I can retrieve it from her phone.

05 Jan 2020 07:40:18
Theswagman, i'm not saying barisic isn't a better all round full back than tav mate. Like i stated, i think both are terrific full backs and detrimental to how we play. I just think tav gets made the whipping boy when others who make mistakes don't.
We should all be supporting and happy we've got to very good attacking full backs, which is the modern full back now and the way gerrard wants them to play!

05 Jan 2020 08:31:22
Detrimental? Did you not do this before Mr Coop lol. I know what you mean tho mate. 100% agree. Tav gets far to much stick.

05 Jan 2020 10:14:18
I've always thought that Tav would be better playing further forward in the right midfield position. He is quick and can (usually) cross a good ball. That way he wouldn't be left exposed at the back. I get that SG rates Tav highly but if we brought in a new, classy right back then Tav could be part of our midfield squad. I don't think Flanagan is good enough.

05 Jan 2020 10:52:51
What many seem to miss, is that if you watch games carefully, Tav does a huge amount of good defending. The boy is brimming with energy and is very creative with many tasty balls in to the box. He deserves better.

05 Jan 2020 12:08:14
Tav has 3 goals and 6 assists and Borna has 2 goals and 6 assists in the league so far. Their stats are very similar. Tav had a sticky patch but has defended well of late and cut out the sloppy mistakes. Can we not just enjoy having 2 excellent full backs t the minute. Wasn't that long ago we had guys like Richard Foster and Agyriou (Greek lad not sure how it's spelt) 🤣. Tav is still the best RB in the league so I think we are doing ok 👍.

05 Jan 2020 12:16:12
Bizz, too many minds already made up on Tav and they ain't for changing no matter how well he plays.

For me, I guess SG will sell him only when he has identified someone who is better (and we can afford) as with every position in the team. Until then he is captain and 1st name on the teamsheet and should be supported 100% by all fans - even the Fifa pro managers!

04 Jan 2020 19:31:46
On the subject of getting a RF. what's peoples opinion on Kent playing in the RF position and Jordan Jones on the Left. Only the coaches and Kent himself will know but we have options which is a great place to be. Happy new year everybody. I sincerely hope you Edd and all posters have a great one, the worlds been pretty dire the last few years let's hope the sun starts to shine once again. x.

{Ed001's Note - cheers TJBB, I hope 2020 brings health and happiness to all the posters and lurkers.}

04 Jan 2020 16:04:53
On the subject of Rangers fans booing at Parkhead, some of the Tims are demanding respect for the dead. This comes weeks after the Green Brigade never entered the stadium until after the minutes silence on remembrance weekend. You couldn't paint a rid neck on the Tims!

04 Jan 2020 16:33:03
2 wrongs don't make a right. we should be better than them. we always used to be.

04 Jan 2020 16:39:51
Struth, Rangers and Celtic fans have always been as bad as each other. Let's be honest here. There's been countless times over the years our fans have let us down and vice versa. I am not saying what's right or wrong. Just pointing out hypocrisy mate.

04 Jan 2020 17:02:40
Understandable but we should rise above.

04 Jan 2020 21:57:02
no need to rise when you're already better.

04 Jan 2020 15:22:47
Hypothetical question here fellow bears, but i'll put it out anyway. IF james tavernier were to be sold to newcastle utd, or any other club for that matter, what's the minimum fee we should accept for our captain? 🤔.

04 Jan 2020 15:37:20
I'm not Tavs biggest fan but why would you want to leave Rangers and go to Newcastle? Fighting to stay up, there fans on a boycott and there winning SFA. Tav I understand is happy where he is.

04 Jan 2020 15:47:01
In January, £15m to start with. End of season with a trophy in his hands and CL football - who knows!

04 Jan 2020 15:51:59
To be honest coop 7-10mil we'd be lucky. 👍.

04 Jan 2020 16:04:40
Given is lack of defensive ability I’d say 6 million.

04 Jan 2020 16:05:22
We should not be selling anybody during this window that is part of the 18 man squaud. If Tav was to be sold a fee of £20M should be obtained. In other words not for sale.

04 Jan 2020 18:32:25
The only way I feel we would sell to the 'Fat Man' is if we got in writing that we get back full control of the Retail Business, and at least £15 Million in transfer fee, is that a pig I've just seen flying past my house. Seriously if we have aspirations of winning the league, we must retain our top players until the end of the season.

04 Jan 2020 19:39:50
I think one would want to go to Newcastle for the £££s they could offer that we couldn't.

04 Jan 2020 21:51:40
Supercoop, currently we don’t have a replacement so how much would it cost to source a replacement over next couple of weeks? Realistically Tav going no where this month but if we receive bid of £7m think most fans would not be too upset with a summer exit.

04 Jan 2020 21:54:19
4-5 tops.

04 Jan 2020 22:15:26
4 possibly 5 mill absolute tops. he would get ripped apart weekly in the EPL if that's where he ended up.

04 Jan 2020 22:37:45
Em, maybe obvious question but if we sold our captain for say £6m who would we replace him with?

Seems to me odd that if there was someone out there that is better than Tav and we could buy for less than £6m then Newcastle or other Tav suitors might snap that player up instead of Tav (who some fans say is crap) .

05 Jan 2020 00:08:53
If anyone thinks we couldn’t get a similar standard replacement for £5m they are mental. If we managed to get £10m, £5m for a replacement and £5m to spend on another player we should be wearing masks.

03 Jan 2020 21:42:36
If Newcastle and Ashley come calling and put in a bid for Alfredo with guarantee of finally freeing us from merchandise deal do we do business?

04 Jan 2020 09:16:26
Looks like newcastle utd also want our right back, james tavernier.

04 Jan 2020 09:54:33
On both counts I'd tell Fatso to do one!

04 Jan 2020 11:25:53
The merchandise deal is nothing to do with Newcastle Utd!

04 Jan 2020 11:40:39
Selling a player to Newcastle and SD deal totally separate.

04 Jan 2020 12:00:41
Give him nothing. I'd genuinely be raging if we ever sold s player to Newcastle eith Ashley in charge.

04 Jan 2020 12:44:30
If we took in 30 million from Newcastle I’d be happy.

04 Jan 2020 13:00:55
Only if they paid the full asking price and cleared all other business deals as an extra.
Doubt if fat man would want to do that though.
🔴⚪🔵.

04 Jan 2020 13:50:57
I'm quite sure scotty knows that SD and selling a player to newcastle are different. But the fat man owns both and yes scotty if the money is right and he guarenteed to leave us alone I'd do business👍.

04 Jan 2020 14:08:19
No we shouldn't entertain that excuse for a human being and Newcastle are crap anyway don't think he'd want to move there to play championship football next season.

04 Jan 2020 14:41:12
John25 and Mr pacman are bang on the money here, as selling one of our players to newcastle utd is totally separate to our SD merchandise deal with mike ashley. I've absolutely no time for mike ashley/ sports direct whatsoever, but i think newcastle utd are a fantastic football club with wonderful supporters! If newcastle gave us an incredible sum of money for any of our players, just like any other club, of course it should be looked at IMO anyway.

04 Jan 2020 17:23:52
A bit off topic, but because of the fat man, I always hope Newcastle lose every game and go down. To see their value plummet would be great. In the same way I’d like the same for SD, House of Fraser and Debenhams. Plus I’d like the fat man to have severe chest pains.

04 Jan 2020 18:02:28
Lol I’m very aware that a Newcastle bid for one of our players and the SD situation is not linked, however, business deals and transfers aren’t always as they seem and unfortunately other deals are struck outwith player sales. Ashley has the advantage of dangling another carrot alongside what appears to be a low bid from Newcastle. Alfredo and Tav interest might suit all parties inc Mr King.

04 Jan 2020 18:35:15
Agree Scotty, I just wonder what James Tavernier would make of these comments if he was to read them, talk about trying to punt our Captain after a result like last Sunday.

04 Jan 2020 22:16:48
Almost impossible to boycott ashely completely if you were any decent clothing. He basically owns the high street.

04 Jan 2020 22:39:42
Irvger, I recon our whole team would be pretty embarrassed to read the usual suspects on here who know more than our manager when it comes to Tav.

05 Jan 2020 09:11:22
DK its not about knowing more than the manager its about everybody having there own opinion. Tav has most definitely improved a lot and you can see he is working very hard to try improve his all round game. But he has flogged some absolutely mental goals and that is there for all to see.

I hope we don't sell any 1st team players in Jan. just get rid of boys nowhere near the side of good enough. King, grezda, 2 keepers, polster, murphy, docherty, herrera, bring in some fees for them and probably save bout 80k a week in wages.
