can't believe I'm hearing Ball is a fan favourite. he play around a dozen games and played ok, but we were in the championship and playing ok in the championship won't be near good enough in the premiership. I watched him play for spurs in the international tournament and he was horrid. don't get me wrong I like his attitude and his determination and he will be a good player in years to come. we need a good defender like Magic or Carlos that we have had in previous years and I'm sure frank will find us the best he can with the budget available.
it's funny that the people that slammed me about signing Clint Hill when I said that he is definitely not what we need now agree with me.
as for Danny I do expect a better season from him this year as last year was hard for him as he had family issues and the club was very generous and allowed him time away from training on many occasions this is not stuff I'm making up this was words straight from MW himself. hopefully these problems are ok now and he gets back to where he should be and I think if we do sign another defender it will be to partner Danny but I think it will come when the EPL decides there squad for the season ahead. but ball is not the answer to our problems. if we were short on CDM's then he might be a good choice. as for strikers I also believe this will be done at the end of the window to give the fans a great boost. but remember what MW says any new player needs to be a boost to what we have already and it also needs to be something we don't already have. that rules out many players that get mentioned here. including Ball as me now have players better than him.

and just to through a rumour in iv just heard that RvP is rejecting a move to Stoke. does that mean he might be on his way to ibrox? lol NEVER!

We are all debating about CBS and the merits of the defenders we have. I agree it would be nice to have better defenders but unfortunately the money isn't there just now. I think we need to go back to a back 4 it may not be so exciting but more solid. I don't think we will win the league with our current system. I especially think Wilson is hurting with our current system he just isint fast enough but still a good defender I believe, however I don't think Kieran is good enough he has pace but doesn't read the game well enough.

latest name mentioned is a winger played 38 games in breakthrough season for Colchester called Gboly Ariyibi.
Another winger but by the looks of it (on youtube) another quality prospect in the making. Similar in style and running power to Bolasie of Crystal Palace I would say.
Yes another winger but if we can get these types of players for small fees I say go for it, all it takes is one or 2 to develop into real quality and we either have a great player on our hands or a few million quid in the bank.

About 9 or 10 of his over all appearances its hard to define because he has played a few games in both. That's why we want him he's solid in both areas and definately can play at centre back, started to show composure on the ball especially against c*****c would be a priority if we could get him but I don't think he wants to move here permanently he's going on to bigger things.

Where are you getting this Wilson suspended millark other than a Rangers fan blog?
Wilson received 7 yellow cards in the championship last season and no red cards. SPL rules state 18 points are required to receive a suspension, with most yellow cards being 3 points, and some such as hand ball being 2 points.
So it is possible but I can't find any reputable source mention the suspension, and also have no idea how the suspension laws carry from 1 season to the next and 1 league to the next.

Wallace has played there before and did well so would make sense for Hodson to go to left back and Wallace to cover for Wilson. Sorted!

In my opinion he was probably our best performer last season and with better players round about him he could kick on further! As was Windass that got him 15 goals in the league he played in, where I watched him on a couple of occasions. For me he just has that extra bit of physicality and pace that Holt is lacking, but still has the same style of wanting touches on the ball and playing short, sharp passes, looking to burst into the box from midfield. I stand by my opinion that Windass is superior to Holt.

Hokt is an excellent breaker up of play and ball winner he never stops running EVERY team needs a player like him Paul Lambert was essential to Celtic and Scotland in that role as were Fergie and McColl in our great team of 90s they can't all be Gazzas and DeBoer or Albertz
Warburton likes him and he was a standout in many games for us the cup semi being the best example
I think he will feature as much as and maybe more than last season. When the winter comes mid season it's the Hokts Hallidayc and Bartons you need to grind out victories
Add to all that he scores goals like Doddie used to from midfield supporting attack. A real box to box player.

They've been trying there best so to speak for the whole summer. Not one positive defensive signing. We can say how good the midfield captures have been but the defence is dire.
Bringing in five players who can play across the middle of the park, Crooks, Rossiter, Kranjcar, Barton and Windass. A RB for cover in Hodson. A winger in Dodoo. A sub goalie in Gilks, and a 37 year old CB in Hill, think it's safe to say we know wasn't going to answer the defensive problems.

Just not happy with our recent links. I do not like Warburton's nonchalant approach to these key signings that MUST be made if we are to win the title. Right now we would be challenging but if we want to win and win comfortably we need a ST (to me the most crucial need) and a CB. We can't go a full season with one striker.
Kenny Miller is 38 and we cannot put an SPL workload on him as it is unfair and can anyone really see him score more than 20 goals? We have NO other out and out striker, despite what some of you tell yourselves and Warburton does too, Waghorn is not a striker. He is dire through the middle, amazing on the right. To me its like asking Wayne Rooney to play up top on his own. Dodoo is unproven but also, not a striker. He is a right winger.
If Warburton fails to bring in a striker of quality or even a striker at all, this is a huge mistake that he must be criticised for. I love him just as any other fan does but we need to look past the "In Warburton we Trust" blindfolds and start analysing what is actually happening. At CB, we were linked with Mariappa. Now we are linked with Senderos. This is a complete step down in quality and to me proves the boards unwillingness to invest.
Dave King continuously promises to invest millions each year but so far on all of our signings we have spent £1.7m. I'm not asking for a massive splash out, but instead 2 good investments that wouldn't cost that much and in turn would win you the league. Thus returning your invested money and some with European Football. We as fans need to start criticising our team and board (constructively) and take off our blindfolds.

It's our first year back in the top flight. MW moved and made nine signings fairly quickly he obviously is struggling if people aren't in yet. We will never sign an out and out striker he has to be able to rotate across the front three. Defensive frailties are a little exaggerated Wilson is solid and worse case scenario we have Crooks who is real quality.
Dodoo is more of a striker than any other player we have outwith Miller. Mariappa is a step up in quality and rightfully demands such a fee and if we can't afford it what can we do? Kidnap him force him up to Scotland and torture him till he puts pen to paper? King is spending millions just not on signings we are running at an operating loss of like 5m a year who do you think is covering that? "two good investments" yeah easily said than done moron the scouting system has clearly improved significantly over the last year it's completely stupid to suggest that if there were two signings we could invest in that we wouldn't have already.
I'm all for criticising the team. Waghorn is over rated as is Haliday. Tav can't defend RK is a disaster. Miller won't cut it this season. We over paid for O'Halleron considering we could have signed him now for much less. Kranjcar is completely off the mark in terms of fitness and won't cut it against better oppositions. Rossiter and Crooks are our best signings. Barton will make a big impact.

Crooks hasn't kicked a ball for us yet- he could prove to be amazing or he could be a total flop. Nobody knows. But he is not a specialist CD (yet, he could be in future maybe) and he doesn't have the experience we desperately need in this position.
The senderos link worries me, just like the American defender did when we trialled him. There clearly is no plan at work here and its looking a little desperate. Senderos was promising at arsenal but has been a total flop since. Is he really any better than our current crop, I'm not certain the answer to that is yes.
I'm sure we will score goals, although I can only see waghorn threatening the 20 goal mark. Another striker would definitely help, although for me the CD position is a must.
We give far too many easy chances to opponents from simple balls into channel, crosses and counter attacks. Hate to say it but this is as much a problem of tactics as it is personnel
At some point we are going to have to spend proper money on 2-3 players to seriously challenge for the title. For me this season is about consolidation as our current squad is short of the quality required.

From watching Euro u19 it's clear that is Rossiter's natural position, so he cld sit in front of back 4 with Barton and allow 1 from Halliday Holt Windass or Forrester to support front 3
Hope Warbs puts waggy thru the middle tomorrow as I know he can drift out wide but it's not his natural position and he doesn't have the pace that makay MoH or Dodoo would give us out wide.

I agree 100% Humey. You just need to look at what Walter Smith did when he came back. He sorted out the defence first and foremost and made the team hard to beat. We didn't play as eye catching football but it worked. I think MWs philosophy is great but you can't go into games thinking you will simply outscore the other team to win. Everyone knows there will the be odd game where things just don't fall our way up front or their keeper has a blinder and it turns out to be a defeat instead of a draw simply because our defence will leak goals the way it is.

Players we have signed have been through timing and circumstance, I'm sure if the right CB players were available with the kind of budget we are working with, they would have been signed already. Instead, we have moved to sign the players we CAN actually sign in other positions through bosmans, developement fees etc, and most importantly, players who were willing to sign the contracts offered.

MW says he doesn't have a guaranteed starting eleven. You'd say at the moment there's a lot of players who's positions are almost certain.
The back five will be the same as last season.
Foderingham, Tavernier, Wilson, Keirnan, Wallace.
Kranjcar, Barton are certain to start in midfield. I'd say Halliday will play in midfield if Windass is injured.
Up front, Waghorn and McKay are certainties. You'd think it'll be Forrester on the right. Doubt he'll start O'Halloran or Dodoo.
So essentially only two places up for grabs and only two new signings starting.

This is team I reckon MW will start with. Don't agree with it, however, I think he will be loyal to last seasons starters with exception of Barton and Niko. It's their jerseys to lose on flag raising day. I expect Windass once fit to replace Halliday and Miller will drop out for new CF or Dodo. Also Kiernan to drop out for new CB or Crooks.

I think Rossiter is more of a certainty that Kranjcar at this stage Thorn, once Crooks and Windass are back in contention then Kranjcar might not be certain at all. Still has to prove his fitness for me over the course of a competitive game and succession of games.

niko I think with his fitness levels should be a super sub so i'd play barton halliday and windass then swap whoever is playing the least impressive on the 60 min mark.

I hear a lot of Dom ball talk on here and social media but going in for him on loan Again doesn't fill me with excitement, I would much rather we looked at Cameron Carter vickers for CB cover still you but touted as the next big thing defensively and mentioned as a future national team (USA) captain .
