30 Jun 2017 21:54:36
Hope Pena and Herrera are in the squad for the away leg. only seen second half of game but if we play like that then Limassol will make easy work of us am afraid.

30 Jun 2017 23:33:35
Caw2 are limassol a good team?

01 Jul 2017 00:19:17
If Pedro is really a first class manger he will immediately speak with McKay and Dodoo and create a pathway to get them back in the first team squad

01 Jul 2017 02:09:03
Limassol is a tough fixture we could of had tougher opponents so i'll take them any day but i see they did give tottenham a tough time a few years back

01 Jul 2017 02:26:10
Fd. Why?

01 Jul 2017 02:26:28
Aye they look good. seen the highlights of the 4 goals they scored away. will be a cricket score when Limassol get that team in Cyprus

01 Jul 2017 08:37:45
Fd have you been watching them play in different games from the rest of us mackay lacks baws and desire dodoo lacks everything

01 Jul 2017 18:43:01
Dodoo is a shocking player what you talking about

30 Jun 2017 21:08:30
Allan McGregor?

Ed. can we get a poll running?

{Ed033's Note - For a Poll i need a question and possible voting options.

01 Jul 2017 05:59:38
Rumours of McGregor returning to Scotland.

Who would you prefer as Rangers number 1?

Allan McGregor?

Wes Foderingham?

Jak Alnwick?

01 Jul 2017 08:39:12
Dont bother big wes all day

01 Jul 2017 09:29:59
Wes before shagger?

Apart from Cammy Bell, a reckon he's the worst number 1 since the 90's.

Goram, Klos, McGregor. even our 2nd choice keeper in Niemi is way above Wes.

Shagger would be an improvement to what we have imo

01 Jul 2017 20:55:41
AM is by far the better of the 3 keepers mentioned especially better than Wes but not going to happen i'm afraid but i would definitely have him back at Ibrox.

01 Jul 2017 21:51:06
Don't forget Ronald

02 Jul 2017 12:08:11
Shagger better than Goram or Klos?

Not for me pal. Goram is in the Rangers hall of fame, Aldo isny

30 Jun 2017 21:07:31
Are we really going to let Mckay go for a six figure sum. If Pedro really can't work with him then instead of putting the lad down and letting other managers know that they might have a problem with him or that "he just doesn't have it in him". would it not be a better idea to loan him to an English championship club n hope he plays well until January n catch the eye of a couple a managers doon there. if he plays well a club doon there might pay us a fee tae secure the transfer n get the boy in early. think this would be oor best option tae get something near his true value. no?

01 Jul 2017 00:09:51
He's decided he wants to go and if he goes on loan till Xmas then he will be persuaded by potential suitors to see his contract out and go for free. Warburton will pay 1M before this window closes.

01 Jul 2017 00:44:25
McKay gas got quality but definitely going to trust the manager on this

01 Jul 2017 02:27:06
WWW maybe McKay can't work with the manager.

01 Jul 2017 16:37:06
Maybe he is just a lazy player with little ambition that doesn't like being tackled or have to track back. If that is the case then he will be off to Forrest!

30 Jun 2017 20:55:06
Why on earth are people sayin Holliday is some guy for getting himself aff the wage bill. he's an absolute imposter. he's hoping while he's away Pedro will get sacked and he'll be free tae swagger back in and start costing us games again. HE IS WRONG!

{Ed039's Note - I couldn't agree more)

30 Jun 2017 22:31:30
Never will be Rangers class but knows how to play the young fans clad he's gone!

30 Jun 2017 22:39:33
The guys went on loan as he was surplus to requirements. get of the guys back . sick of everyone getting on players backs. there not good enough we know that but saying he hopes Pedro gets sacked, grow up.

01 Jul 2017 08:33:41
Not sure where you've gotten the information that Halliday wants Rangers to fail; the love he's shown for the club and the ability to see that the club is far bigger than him would suggest otherwise.

30 Jun 2017 18:19:50
Last night was a win, harder than it should have been but still a win.

The team looked good, for a team who only had three weeks training and bonding with new additions.

Niko was outstanding and Jack and Cardoso look like good signings.

The team will only get better with time and as long as we get a goal on Tuesday we should be alright.

Niederkorn aren't exactly the cream of the crop and if you read the general nonsense in the tabloids you might believe that they gave us a game.

The fact is that we couldn't kill the game off, a common issue last season; however this time we have a couple of solid players in Cardoso and Jack who can defend and cut out danger so we didn't end up with a draw.

I can't see us getting done by that lot in the second leg and progression only gives us more time to get the team working as required.

Hold out on this and watch the team grow because they will look much better in my opinion.

30 Jun 2017 19:26:55
That's a very good post

everyone hasn't too stop being negative already one game and a win a clean sheet with Alves still too come into the team. I am slightly worried that he could tire toward the middle of November after playing in the confederations cup he will be looking forward too the winter break.

I think Pena in the middle of the park will make a difference he's seems too be solid but also creative which we lacked when Niko went off who I must say shows what he can do can't wait till he if proper match fit.

I thought tav played well I don't understand the criticism being aimed at him.

When this team hasn't got used to playing g together and everyone is in the team and fit we will have a good team with good options.

All in all was a great first half too relaxed In The second but in sure Ped will sort that out I'm expecting/ hoping for 2-0 in Luxembourg.

Just keep being positive negativity has never helped anyone.

30 Jun 2017 19:58:27
Why is it if you give a honest review of a bad performance you get branded negative and told to be more positive? Behave person don't see us telling use to be more negative? Stop telling folk how to be

30 Jun 2017 20:15:12
Agree, although we only scored the one we did look good in periods and for a team that's had less time to bond than glue I'm taking the positives from last night, with pena, Herrera and alves still to come into the side and morelos only getting 15/ 20 mins I think we will be fine, Jesus the way some of the press I have read u would think we were beaten 1:0 by some team called Lincoln Red Imps or something. Once the boys have gelled and bonded teams like Progres will be put to bed with ease, I thought Ryan Jack looked excellent btw and could prove to be our best and most important capture of the summer

30 Jun 2017 20:30:18
For our first competitive game I'd take last night's performance. We closed down quickly and attacked quickly. let's just support the team. Papers bring us down enough without our own so called fans doing it.

30 Jun 2017 17:37:20
Thought cardoso looked the real deal last night, team in the first half looked really good for first game of season against a well organised team from Luxembourg or not, looking forward to the progression of the team over the season.

30 Jun 2017 16:33:41
Still think that Pedro will bring in Two possibly Three Players on Loan. I reckon that the type of Player Pedro would like to bring to Ibrox probably have a few options and whether its tomorrow or the last day of Transfer Window these Players and Clubs will want to make sure their making the right decision. Got a feeling that Pedro has a list of Players probably at the Top Clubs who have huge potential and are valued at crazy sums (ie Robertson who went to the Piggery) Anyways I do feel that Caixinha WILL bring in loans before the Window shuts and he will have top info and knowledge on guys playing in Portugal and Spain. In England there's a possibility that he could have the edge due to his relationship with Jose at Utd? And I still think that the Transfer of Gilmour to Chelsea has put us in a better position if we do approach their Club about a possible loan coming to Ibrox. Still being in Europe would be immense on top of everything else our Club can offer.
Pedro serms to be well respected and definitely carries a fair bit of CLOUT especially amongst his fellow Countrymen)

30 Jun 2017 17:15:21
He said no more than two on loan Pedro is actually building a team for rangers not someone else

30 Jun 2017 20:19:53
It's been said before and I'm going to repeat it, I'd much rather be giving our youngsters game time and experience rather than give into youngsters or fringe players from other clubs by signing them on loan, and to be honest I think it's time to start the ball rolling with wee Hardie instead of watching Waghorn waste chance after chance week after week

30 Jun 2017 15:34:02
Maybe we could try spending what he is worth 1.5million, and he is worth that A Scotland international with 2 years left on his contract, how many times are we going to penny pinch whenit comes to Scottish/ British Players and then normally loes out on the player altogether, just aswell he's a Rangers man or he would of got sick of waiting then went elsewhere the same goes for Walker the exact same thing penny pinching when we have paid full money for the other non British Players that we have signed, I mean 4 different offers for Dorrans the first offer under £500,000 O mean its getting an embarrestment now cause this has been going on now not just this season but A few seasons and many Transfer Windows Just look at the Scott Allan Saga and many more that's been the exact same. £1.5million For Dorrans and £800,000 to 1million For Walker is Fair and is what should be paid if we really want to sign these players IMO.

30 Jun 2017 17:28:26
We should never spend what other clubs want on players if we had bid 1.5 for Dorrans and 1 for walker they would have wanted more

30 Jun 2017 17:52:00
What a load of pish! Pedro clearly values Dorrans at less than what Norwich want. He will either walk away or negotiate.

It's all part of life.

30 Jun 2017 14:05:57
OK it wasn't the best game I've ever seen but it was this teams first competitive match some good performances --Nicko jack. And one or two others Please Guys support the team it takes time to jell some posts suggest we are going no where be positive rather than negative Plenty others who hate us will provide the negativity.

30 Jun 2017 15:37:57
The negativity is probably to do with the fact we were playing one of the lowest ranked teams in the competition from Luxembourg

30 Jun 2017 16:17:45
@bengy25 - we have no God given right to beat anybody. Its the first competitive match of the season. If we are still playing this bad by October, then fair enough criticise away. Until then, dry your eyes.

30 Jun 2017 17:14:03
1st game out? It wasn't great, but it was positive from many angles. Let's be patient first game and not all 1st choice players available al-in-all pretty good i'd say.
Kranjar? Magnificent

30 Jun 2017 17:52:43
Same old Bengy?

30 Jun 2017 20:25:22
I think once we gel and Pena, Herrera and Alves are in the fold then we will be a very different prospect and I do honestly think we will score enough goals next week to put the tie to bed comfortably, in the next round though the Cypriot side (AEL I think) we give us a real game where we will have to be at our clinical best to win, there no mugs at all and it will show us just how far along the road back we are

30 Jun 2017 23:27:05
UnionJack

I only pointed out why people were probably being negative so what's with the dry your eyes comment? Do you not understand that I was only trying to explain why maybe people were upset and at no point said it was how I felt. I thought it would have been simple to understand but in future I will try and simplify it further for you to understand

30 Jun 2017 11:27:17
So my tuppence worth after last night:

A win but not convincing. Not overly worried though.

Fods-untested so unable to comment.

Tav-unconvincing but contrary to most people I would like him to revert to his original gung ho style as this would suit him and us better.

Cardoso-Solid and looked good at both ends of the park. Good find at the price.

Bates-Struggled with the big Armenian but stuck to task and came through well. Passed well.

Wallace-Looks jaded.

Jack-Efficient and solid. Good acquisition.

Holt-Broke up play ok. Not his best game. Should be kept but not first 11.

Dalcio-Showed flashes of potential but faded in game.

Kranjcar-Different level. Looked a class above everyone. no coincidence our goal came when Miller was on the same level.

Waghorn-Ineffective would be too generous. Just leave!

Miller-Worked hard. Got the goal. Was going to criticise his dropping deep too often but this is only negative as Waghorn wasn't effective in stepping up.

30 Jun 2017 13:17:17
Good post. Some saying any form of criticism is a sign of not being a fan is ridiculous. Disappointed in the result, of course and lots are and no denying it. Miller dropping too deep into a role he's not good at and the right back struck me as someone McKay would have had a field day with. There were good signs but also warning ones that the Millers and Waghorns aren't going to cause any Celtic fans any loss of sleep.

30 Jun 2017 13:19:53
Yea can't really disagree with you. I'm one of those who really like Tav he has Pace, Strength, Dribbling, Good right foot and i don't think he's as bad at defending as people make out however i do feel he loses concentration at times.

Probably going to get slaughtered for that but the fullbacks role has changed look at Chilleni or Ramos if they didn't change from fullbacks to Centrehalfs they probably wouldn't be considered as one of the bests as the are today.

30 Jun 2017 17:59:35
Kfrazer, no-one is saying that constructive is not welcome. Dave King made the distinction between fans and supporters of the club and I for one agree wholeheartedly.
A supporter offers support to every player no matter what.
That does not mean that we cannot criticise a poor performance but aggressive vilification like Keirnan received last year is never acceptable.
Similarly, a few on here last night were descripting a few players as "pish" and stating that they should be booted out of the club - these guys pull on their jersey s and go out to play their best. may not be good enough on occasion but the manager will decide who stays and who goes.

30 Jun 2017 20:39:56
BR65, enlighten me what the difference between a fan and a supporter is. I'm not saying vilify anyone. My penny's worth is that I'd have had McKay any day before Waghorn and Miller's not a 90 minute player if he's not being used in the box and even then not. It's an opinion, some will agree, some disagree but last I checked I'm a Rangers fan.

30 Jun 2017 21:04:33
BR65, usually agree with you but Kiernan was so bad and receive do so many opportunities that I think all supporter were entitled to describe him as Tom Kite and single fish last season.

30 Jun 2017 11:19:25
Think that with Hearts bringing in Lafferty and the news that he is the Clubs highest earner then they may be more open to doing a deal for Walker.
In my opinion though we should either do a deal involving yhem taking O'halloran for a Season OR we wait and sign Walker on a Pre-Contract.

30 Jun 2017 20:35:01
Hearts don't really have anybody else that can put the kind of ball in that Walker can. if they think he won't down tools for the remainder of his contract then i'd imagine they would want to keep him and play them both together. if they click it would be worth more to them than anything we would be prepared to pay

30 Jun 2017 11:08:00
Last nights game proved what we already knew. Waghorn and Holt are just not good enough . I said a few days back that 3 quality players needed asap otherwise we coud be out europe in next round. We should and will get through this tie but i have concerns over the Limassol tie if we don't improve quickly and bring in some quality signings. Dorrans and Walker would make the difference and we need to get these targets signed. Still not convinced by Tavernier and think the third signing should be a quality right back who can defend and distribute well. The only major positive from last night was kranjcar but i have doubts he can stay fit for long spells of the season due to recent injury. PC should also make Alves captain and move Wallace to vice captain.

30 Jun 2017 11:33:47
we hae already brought in 8 new faces, and while i know it takes time for new players to bed in, i think you are right about Dorrans and Walkerebut not for your reasoning. How can we possibly know they would make a difference? I think we will go on to have a good season, but the big word for me at the present time is PATIENCE

30 Jun 2017 12:31:49
I agree. let's make the player who is still yet to play or train with us captain!

1 competitive game and you have concerns? I know it's just a team from Luxembourg so we should have beaten them 22-0 and we are Rangers so let's just go sign Dani Alves.

We won 1-0 with a team that has hardly played with each other before, give them time to work out where team mates like the ball to be played. Let some players work out how much pace the wingers have so they can play the ball down the line and know that they will get to it.

We are 90 minutes into a new season folks. Give the team time

30 Jun 2017 12:56:26
I can't understand those that bundle Holt and Waghorn together.
Holt should stay as he is a capable squad member.
Waghorn should definitely go and we are a man down when he plays.
I do think we need another RB but believe Hodson should be the one to go as he clearly can't oust Tav from the first team.

30 Jun 2017 10:42:12
Honestly think that Halliday has made a decision that for him keeps his Ibrox dream alive. He knew he was on the list of Players that Caixinha wanted out. But no matter what you or I think the guy will try everything to persuide Pedro that he is good enough to be part of his Squad. He knew he could not stay as by doing that he would have been accused of picking up a wage and his reputation would be in tatters and would only add to the fact he woyld be well down the pecking order anyways!
I thought he may go to another SPFL Team on loan as he would have been monitered more closely BUT its possible that the Team he is going too were willing to pay all or most of his Wages. In my opinion I think Halliday is doing everything to stay in Pedro's plans and. for me Halliday has sat down with Pedro and told him that he does not want to leave and will do anything to try and prove to Caixinha he deserves to be at Ibrox and who can blame him. Taking himsrlf off wage bill is right thing to do, Halliday is not a big earner and I think the Club he's going too are paying ALL his wages which are supposedly as low as 2k a week. Fair play to Halliday you and I would probably do the exact same to try and stay at tge Club and hopefully other Playrrs will do the same and if there's no takers full time they will at least go on loan and not burden the Club with not only their wages but also their presence as its no good having Players around with absolutely no future at the Club! Even if Pedro gets them out the immediate picture regarding training by getting them training elsewhere with the Youngsters. I can see this happening with Forrester definitely and possibly others.
Mckay better sort it out as to me this all boils, down to wages! Which makes me think, that his agent has told him he can get him a Club willing to pay him 20k! A sum that he has not merited YET at Ibrox. We may have offered Mckay a wage as high as 15k a week which imo is still pushing it but he does have, real potential. I think the talk 6-7 months ago, about Mckay being a possible 6m Player has stuck in his head. Him now being told to train with the Under 20's seems like a huge messege from the Manager and a Transfer out looks to be on the Cards!

30 Jun 2017 20:14:30
Holliday thinks he can see oot the year over there n hope Pedro gets the sack letting him return tae start costing us games again. With regards tae Mckay i would loan him tae an English championship side n hope he catches the eye of a couple of managers doon there. Although come January he would be free tae talk tae other clubs he is still oor player n wan ae the championship clubs may well want tae pay us a decent fee tae secure the transfer n get him in early. i think this is our best option

30 Jun 2017 09:56:28
Any one know if the 2nd leg is on tv?

30 Jun 2017 10:32:26
think premier sport has the coverage again for the 2nd leg. not heard anything from any other channels

30 Jun 2017 12:53:14
premier sports said that. if the score line was out with reach then they wouldn't show it. but with the score line only being 1-0 then I think they will show it.

30 Jun 2017 08:50:21
The most concerning thing for me last night was the lack of leadership on the pitch in the second half and walking pace acceptance of a 1 nil win.

30 Jun 2017 08:57:17
There isn't much we can do against a team that had 10 men in their box when we attacked. Take the win, go to the away leg and watch them try to come and and play against us resulting in us winning by a larger margin.

30 Jun 2017 13:18:05
totally agree onlyshow, was at the game last night and was saying to the Mrs that it's horrible watching teams play with 10-11 men behind the ball like the rest of the SPFL teams used to do during the Advocaat era. Progres need to score at home so hopefully push out at the back a bit more. I think if we had got a 2nd last night and forced them to try an attack we could have got 4 or 5. Also what I have seen from Dalcio (Coleraine and last night) McKay should be in the team

30 Jun 2017 08:22:38
Was at the game last night.
Niko may be getting older but his football brain is far beyond most of the team.
Thought Cardoso looked good. Although I don't get what people seen in Dalcio. Just looked a carbon copy of barry. But this was the first game and there debuts infront of 50,000 so fair play. We won that's the main thing. Should have been more than by just one though.

30 Jun 2017 08:47:44
Crying out for Mckay or Dodoo to come off the bench last night. Jack will be great signing and great to see Nico again.

30 Jun 2017 08:48:10
Could've been more, most of the players just aren't up to full match fitness yet. Things are on the up.

30 Jun 2017 13:07:08
Would have been Dodoo over Waghorn for me

30 Jun 2017 06:13:07
Overall the result is all that matters. I am not really happy with the 433 formation but the team did have a shape to it and there was still a good few positives to take from the game . I would much prefer two up front but that is probably unlikely. let's remember that its not even july yet and probably 4 of our first team players did not start . Potentially more players to come in as well . We will only get better but definitely have to.

30 Jun 2017 07:14:26
We didn't play 4-3-3 at any point yesterday. It was 4-2-3-1 for the largest part of the game.

30 Jun 2017 08:21:42
First game so players still to find their feet I guess.
The one thing that jumped out at me is the lack of creativity when Niko went off.
I personally think this shows that we really do need Dorrans or similar to sign.
I thought Cardoso looked really comfortable and composed which is something we have really lacked
When we add Alves to the back line I'll be happy
I know it's the first game but wasn't impressed with Waghorn.
A win is a win I suppose and just remember how the manky mob started last season

30 Jun 2017 10:11:17
The 4-2-3-1 is open to interpretation! going forward it is that formation but when defending it can become a 4-3-3 or a 4-5-1 depending on how we fall back. so we may well have actually played a 4-3-3 for spells

30 Jun 2017 11:15:04
In the post match he said he was playing a 4-4-1-1

30 Jun 2017 05:48:10
Wasn't it the case that one our big problems last season was not being able to score? Miller to the rescue again. Don't play Waghorn again!

30 Jun 2017 08:14:52
Our new main striker herrera didn't play, Pena disn't play and morelos wasn't going to do much with 13 minutes to go against a 10-0-0 formation.

30 Jun 2017 08:23:18
More like father the guy is so slow and gives nothing to the team he should be showing the door

30 Jun 2017 01:12:10
Was at the game tonight and i just have a couple of thoughts to share. Ryan Jack, niko krancjar and cardoso were all excellent. Ryan Jack looked like that was a training match.
The team created good oppertunities but, failed to convert them which i think is down to the 433 formation.
And last but not least i thought the atmosphere was terrible. I don't know what has happened but our fans used to sing for the whole match and make a good atmosphere but, nowadays at many points during the games you could almost hear a pin drop it goes that quiet. Its really really disapointing.

30 Jun 2017 06:12:40
I've been saying for ages the atmosphere at home games is poor you would have thought the place would be rocking after 6 years without European football

30 Jun 2017 08:16:26
Atmosphere was dead, half the section I was in wanted to stand, the other half wanted to sit in silence, majority young men too, fans just don't seem to care anymore about the atmosphere, which is a shame.

30 Jun 2017 00:48:14
Let's no over analysis things tonight guys. Overall it was a good enough performance and we got a result. Let's not forget it was our first competitive game with in the end five new players in the line who will all take time to gel. It was a win. I actually think we will do better over there in 5 days time. We need to give the players time though. Let's think positive rather than negative. Cardoso was good at the back. Jack was solid. Dalcio looked lively and niko was the star of the show. Could and should of been more than 1 but we will get through. Back in Europe bears. That's the main thing.

30 Jun 2017 01:55:31
Really must disagree - what game were you watching -I was hyped up for it - took 4hrs unpaid off my work to go to the game - 50,000 fans were ready for it - the chairman gave us a pep talk before the kick off and we score 1 goal at home against a team from Luxembourg! And you say let's think positive? That was poor tonight - no ifs buts or maybes - Tell me about all the exciting attacking play in the 2nd half? Tell me about the near misses - no- there wasn't any was there - Come on pc - we have to be better than that!

30 Jun 2017 03:33:09
Dunoonbear

Whilst I do agree with you what you have to bear in mind though that this was a team from Luxembourg who are currently 4th in their league

30 Jun 2017 08:08:52
Dunoon, gonnae change the record. I'm sick of being told to wait for the team to gel. We were told this for the first half of last season, probably by you, and we all know how that ended. These are professional players and should be capable of beating the forth best team in Luxembourg.

However, credit were it due; congratulations to Progres for their best result away from home in Europe.

30 Jun 2017 00:47:28
Oh my days. Some people amaze me. 1 game in and the team are being slaughtered already. Fml. Finishing touches will come. Some of you really need to calm down.

30 Jun 2017 01:35:46
You're spot on. We get enough stick of opposition suppprters. My pals a hibee and he was trying to slag us for only beating a pub team 1 nil. I think if we beat Barcelona some people would find a fault in it.

30 Jun 2017 01:56:39
So kri55 you are over the moon with a 1-0 home win over a team from Luxembourg - you get a grip!

30 Jun 2017 09:45:51
Afcw did i once say i was over the moon? Simply no. It was a win. Would take 1-0 wins all season long. Some peoples overreaction to the game is astonishing. Yes we should have scored more however we didn't concede. We won the game and its the first competitive game for us. Some people want instant success. I guess these people don't fully understabd football.

What were the dafties behind the goal all about with the paper throwing? We were playing well at that point and their stupidity killed any momentum because the ref had to stop the game.

Think it's stretching it a bit to blame that for the poor performance

Aye the dafties were the reason we were not good enough tonight. Is that statement for real. We were not as good as I would have hoped. Being at the game best player on the park was jack by a mile. So those who say MacLean and walker would be waste of money are so far off. Team has long way to go but should get better

Gradouk and Bengy25. When exactly did I say that was the reason we didn't win the game? What I asked was why do that and make the ref stop the game at a point when we had the momentum.
