I'm a rangers fan in bristol and all my mates are Bristol city fans and over the years when derby have visited from what they've seen from commons has been awful. He's an over rated ball hogger and I feel losing him is a victory for us.
If we can get vela, dzsudzsak, novo, matavz, hreiderson, Evans or riordan one of these would be a TOP class signing.

Jelavic CANNOT play in the Europa League unfortunately

Correct!

A player CANNOT play in the same European competition for 2 different clubs in any 1 season. The exceptions being, of course, the Intertoto Cup and the Super Cup.

how come he couldnt play in the champions league then?

why was pedro mendes allowed then?

If rangers bring in the likes of riorden, Hriedesson and have Jelavic bk fit, but only to lose miller, it would seem to me that's not a bad piece of work done by us! Wot u think ed? {ed's note - Jelavic is a big improvement on Miller, in my opinion, Hriedarsson is a decent player who can cover left back and Riordan is a solid SPL player. Certainly looks like an improvement on paper.}

27 Jan 2011 17:03:12

If vaughan couldnt sign because he had played for 2 teams this season how can jelavic go to sunderland?

Rangers after psv wing king Balázs Dzsudzsák and also david nugent

(12) (15)

Worst rumour of the week.
Total nonsense.
Dzsudzsak in valued over £10 mill. He's quality but we've no chance. Still got a year and a half on his contact.

Nugent is slightly more likely, contract runs out in june but wages will be a problem.

Sadly the Derek Riordan deal is looking more and more likely.

27 Jan 2011 13:54:22

I heard that Rangers manager Sir Walter Smith has said that Rangers will not be signing any players in january which is horrific news for the gers

27 Jan 2011 13:48:57

McGreggor will leave by the deadline, Man Utd will make a bid of around 5 mill, however expect a bid from Arsenal as well.
as for Bougherra, he stated he would be interested in a move before deadline day.
watch how he never celebrated his goal last night, not even a smile. could be his last game, but he will be subject to an offer either from Arsenal in a double deal with McGreggor, around 7-8 mill, and to sweeten the deal a player coming on loan, however its likely Newcastle will make a bid as well.
will Rangers sell so close to deadline day, they need the money now, as the value of these players will plummet in the summer, but they also can't afford to lose any more players, but there will be movement out of Ibrox, rather than in

27 Jan 2011 13:43:31

Re ". .better players than Commons will arrive before Tuesday". Really? Why didn't you try for those players first then? Do you really think better players will come for the money you're offering? Walter will not 'push the boat out' because he can't. Get a grip.

27 Jan 2011 13:28:19

Funny how the commons deal didn't excite you all now but you were all posting he was coming and no one said they weren't excited then, you won't sign anyone on a permanent deal, best you can hope for is a couple of youngsters on loan

Believable0 Unbelievable0

27 Jan 2011 13:14:19

Jelavic can't play in europa cup this season, walter has already said this at the start of jan. is anyone on this site a real fan? do you go to the games or do you sit at home and think of untrue stuff to say about our great club. i hope we don't sign anyone and give the youth a better go they are the future of this club and scottish football. get yourselfs to a game and help the club though these hard times. W.A.T.P.

27 Jan 2011 12:23:33

Has the Auld Fox Walter outsmarted Celtic again, by letting them waste more money on Commons , a player they don't need, after all he's done it before to them.

27 Jan 2011 10:56:43

Velicka on 10k per week, c'mon check the sun when he signed, he's on 4k per week. get a grip. If we honestly get 10k off the wage bill do you think that means we will get 10k to spend. . . . . . . . NO! RFC are trying to reduce our wage bill so we will be luck to see half of what is unloaded which would be 2k. sensiblegersfan

Nikica Jelavic will not be able to play for Rangers in the Europa League knockout stages. The Glasgow club earned their spot in the competition by guaranteeing third spot in their Champions League group on Wednesday night.

Jelavic played for Rapid Vienna in the qualifying stages of the Europa League ahead of his move to Scotland, with the Austrian club’s progression to the group stages ruling him out of playing for his new club in Europe’s top club competition.

If Rangers had progressed in the Champions League, Jelavic – who has been out injured since October 2 – would have been eligible to play in the knockout stages. However, as Rapid are in the group stages of the Europa League, he will not be able to participate in Europe for the remainder of the season.

Rule 18.18 of the Europa League’s regulations stipulates: “One player who has played UEFA club competition matches for another competing club in the current season may exceptionally be registered provided that the player has not been fielded in the same competition for another club; or for another club that is currently in the same competition.”

Claims had been made that Jelavic would become available if Rapid dropped out of the Europa League, as they struggle to catch up with Porto and Besiktas. They current have three points and are four points adrift of Besiktas, who are in second place.

However, Rapid’s qualification for the group stages in the first place, something which Jelavic contributed to with goals in the qualifiers, means Walter Smith will not be able to call upon the Croatian striker.

A 1-0 defeat to Manchester United, together with a 6-1 win for Valencia at home to Bursaspor, ensured Rangers can not finish above or below third place in Group C. That placing puts them in the Europa League, with the round of 32 getting underway on February 17, 2011.

The draw for the next round of the Europa League will take place in Nyon on December 17 this year. Rangers will have to get a result away to Bursaspor to guarantee they are seeded for the draw, with only the best four of the third-place teams earning seedings.

The rules explained

The confusion over Jelavic's eligibility stems from rule 18.07, which says a player can play for another club in the group stages even if he has played in any of the first three qualifying rounds. However, this rule becomes void if the club qualifies for the groups.

From the round of 32 in the Europa League, a player can be registered for a new club under provision 18.18. However, this rule states a player can not be fielded if he has already featured in the same competition, which Jelavic has. There is no differentiation made between qualifying rounds and the group stages.

27 Jan 2011 10:06:01

Jelavic cannot play in Europe as he played in the qualifying round for his previous team.

I saw on the internet this morning (Thursday) that Kris Commons will join Celtic instead of Rangers today with Celtic offering just £300,000 to Derby but giving Commons a bigger wage. I hope Martin Bain manages to get rid of Velicka SOON to free up another £10,000 per week from the Rangers wage bill so he can up the offer to Commons. Its sad times just now to be a Gers fan, nothing ever seems to go smoothly for us these days in the transfer market. Fingers crossed the boys can keep getting results regardless of new signings or not.

I hope the stories about Bebe are true, Sir Alex Ferguson is very good friends with Walter Smith so I hope for his last season Fergy helps him out a bit.

Dear editor. .andy gray was reported to be sacked for both the things mentioned thank you furthermore you say
he got what he deserved !you must have been present at the time or are you more priviledged then the rest of us , did you see a blue movie?or are you just being judge and jury off your own back? I wouldn't say I agree with what he appears to have done but I would say where women are involved there is most probably a lot more to this than meets the eye. and why has it taken so long for all the so called witnesses and accussers to come forward? I don't know exactly how long hes done that job but it has been rather a long time and I think that its strange that this should all blow up suddenly now!better watch out my friend maybe someone has tapped your phone as well. {ed's note - the guy has a well known track record, if you know anyone who has had the misfortune to work with him you would know that. He got what he deserved for his sheer arrogance, it was always going to come back and bite him on the arse. He is one of the greediest people there is, his whole career has been about chasing money and he has been happy to defecate on anyone to get it. It was a well-deserved comeuppance.}

Ed i think its time for sir david murry to come out and tell the fans what is happening to this once great club first he puts the club up for sale then takes its of again saying that the club is now in a position that it does not need to be sold . how come a massive club like rangers with a following second to none can't even buy a second rate player like cummons? ? if sir david diznae want to sell why diz he no put his own hand in his very large pockets and put his money to keep us at the top . . . . i think my self that rangers are in a worse state than they are letting on i hope not because if it was just the 30 million wee owed this should be well reduced with champions and europa money all all the players that have left and wages saved {ed's note - do you not think that finances have to be reined in until a takeover is complete?}

I for one can see exactly where walter smith is coming from hes getting away from the rat race !he wants some peace to enjoy the things in life that matter most to him he knows what the real priorities in life are. Go for it wattie and good luck you deserve it.Andy gray is sacked for sexist comments I worked beside many women who are far more sexist than andy gray ever was and they don't get fired in fact most men encourage women to be that way!and they like that !the majority do. so my reaction would be , I feel sorry for Andy and I do think he has been the victim of a set up by someone. however Ally mcoist get your skates on I see a big job opportunity that could well come your way soon good career prospects right at the heart of football !think of the money and the women
ironic isn't it let the rangers look after themselves because it does, nt look like they are looking after
you either my son you, ve given it a shot its ally time now. {ed's note - Andy Gray was not sacked for sexism, he was sacked for sexual harassment, he is well known for it and finally got what he deserved.}

26 Jan 2011 23:49:20

Re old tricks you mean
your come back totally contradicts itself. yes celtic make an enquiry but rangers made a bid. rangers don't reveal transfer targets anymore. mean while back in the real world everyone and their dug was talking about the race between celtic and rangers signing commons before rangers made a bid for him.
